The Indianapolis Colts cut down their roster to 53 players yesterday, but they may not be finished making moves.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram‘s Clarence Hill Jr. reports that after a visit with the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday, former All-Pro running back Dalvin Cook may have a visit with the Colts.

“A Cowboys source said RB Dalvin Cook was in good shape but they are only interested in possibly signing him to practice squad at this point,” Hill posted on X. “Cook may have another visit with Colts. He has some decisions to make.”

Cook has been one of the best running backs in the NFL over the past few years. After being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2017, Cook became the team’s lead back in his second season and saw his career take off. Cook has rushed for 6,207 yards and 47 touchdowns in his career while being selected to four straight Pro Bowls from 2019-2022.

However, 2023 saw Cook fall off a cliff in terms of production. After the Vikings released Cook for salary cap purposes, he signed with the New York Jets and only gained 214 yards on 67 carries in 15 games. It was a far cry from the 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns he tallied in 2022.

Signing Cook would be a puzzling move for the Colts. It is no secret the lead back in Indy is Jonathan Taylor, who the Colts feel will have a huge year next to Anthony Richardson. The Colts have also publically voiced their confidence in backups Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson.

However, the Colts only kept three running backs on the roster after waiving Evan Hull during roster cuts. If the Colts bring in Cook and determine he would add depth to the room, Cook would compete with Sermon and Goodson for the backup role to Taylor. The Colts will likely be active on the waiver wire as they search to add talent cut from other teams.

The Colts take on the Houston Texans in 11 days to kick off the 2024 regular season. Time will tell if Cook is a part of Indy’s opening-day roster.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — During the late August days of temperatures in the 90s, heat-related illnesses have shown a concerning increase, particularly among community members who work outdoors and people who are unhoused, according to Eskanazi Health‘s data.

John Norris, owner of Norma Jean Lawn Care Services, was adjusting his work due to the heat. “It’s a pretty hot day; I know it’s going to be hot with the few jobs I have to do, but I’m going to have to wait until the sun goes down to do it, but it’s going to get done.”

Norris spends long hours under the scorching sun mowing lawns. “I try to tell my family members that it will be a hot day out here. I’ve experienced a lot in the sun, so I understand what it can and will do to you.”

The chief of emergency medicine at Eskanazi Health, Dr. Tyler Stepsis, says its health care facilities are seeing about 350 patients daily, primarily heat exhaustion cases.

“The last few days, we’ve seen an uptick; still not the majority of people by any stretch, but I would say by putting a number to it, roughly 30 to 40 people a day get some heat-related illness. It may not be the only reason they are there, but that complicates the matter,” the doctor said.

Stepsis says the best way to beat the heat is to get indoors and use the air conditioning. “Your friendly neighborhood libraries are a trove of resources, including ways to keep cool. So, I think there are many places to look if you want to.”

INDIANAPOLIS — A man and a 3-year-old are dead after a shooting on the northeast side of Indianapolis Monday night.

 “I love you, that’s all I keep saying – you didn’t deserve this one bit,” Arieon Anderson, Armonie’s father told WRTV on Tuesday. Family says the child just celebrated his third birthday, Monday night.

 “From the amount of the time he was here, you could see that drive, he could do whatever he wanted to do,” Anderson added.

 According to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to a report of a person shot in the 7400 block of Shadeland Avenue around 9:30 p.m. The area is in the parking lot of a strip mall with several stores, including Dollar tree. Metro Police, ultimately say 22-year-old Jaishawn Johnson and 3-year-old Armonie Booker passed away.

 “You need to turn yourself in – in the name of Jesus – you need to put down the guns,” Michele Anderson, Armonie’s great grandmother said.

 At this time, the incident is still under investigation.
