New York Jets Face Indianapolis Colts: Predictions, Insider Picks, Analysis

The New York Jets play their final game before their bye week when they host the Indianapolis Colts at 1 p.m. eastern on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.

CBS will broadcast the game.

The Jets (3-7) are coming off a 31-6 loss to Arizona that, from several perspectives, may have been their worst game of the season. In the lead-up to the Colts (4-6) game, they lost their kicker, who signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, and will start first-round pick Olu Fashanu at left tackle in place of the injured Tyron Smith.

New York was anticipating that the game would be a reunion with one of its former veteran quarterbacks, Joe Flacco. He was the Colts’ starter the past two games. But, on Tuesday, Indianapolis switched back to second-year pro Anthony Richardson, whose struggles led to Flacco being named the starter.

Richardson will be the starter the rest of the season — or at least that’s what Colts coach Shane Steichen says.

Here are the game predictions from the Jets Country staff.

New York Jets 24, Indianapolis Colts 20

The New York Jets catch a break this week facing off against a team that’s either in the middle of as much turmoil as them, or even more so. What is clear, is that the Jets will beat the Indianapolis Colts.

Indianapolis Colts 27, New York Jets 24

This year hasn’t quite been what Jets fans envisioned when the team traded for quarterback Aaron Rodgers before last year. Losers of six of the last seven, the Jets need something to break their way. Even with a weakness at quarterback, the Colts are just as desperate as they are on a three-game losing streak. Colts running back Jonathan Taylor will be the difference in a narrow Colts.

New York Jets 23, Indianapolis Colts 13

The problem in this game isn’t the Jets, at least this time. It’s the Colts. They’re starting a quarterback that has completed 44% of his passes this season and installed back on the job on Tuesday. On top of that, the Colts are starting three rookie offensive lineman for the first time since 2016.

For a New York pass rush that struggled last week against Arizona, that’s a recipe for them to get up off the mat. The Jets actually win this one rather easily going into the bye week.

New York Jets 17, Indianapolis Colts 13

The New York Jets season is teetering on the brink heading into a matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. But, they will avoid going overboard at least one more week. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers will show a little bit of magic offensively and the defense will play well enough in Indianapolis quarterback Anthony Richardson’s return to the starting lineup. Jets win a close one.

Watch, stream Iowa State basketball vs. IU Indianapolis: TV channel, spread, game odds

The Iowa State men’s basketball team will have one more opportunity to iron out any kinks when they host IU Indianapolis on Monday, Nov. 18 from Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa.

Following a second straight easy victory last week, the Cyclones (2-0) enter the week with their focus split. Iowa State is set to take part in the stacked Maui Invitational later this month, a yearly event that brings together several teams who believe they are Final Four contenders.

The Cyclones had used key runs in wins over Mississippi Valley State and Kansas City, scoring 83 points in the opener and 82 last time out. They have held both opponents under 60 points, continuing to showcase that TJ Otzelberger-coached defense.

Curtis Jones came off the bench vs. Kansas City to score 20 points, including 16 in the second half. Milan Momcilovic added 16 and Dishon Jackson had 13 as Iowa State controlled the glass while also dominating in key areas such as fast-break points and points in the paint.

“Curt was electric for us,” Otzelberger said. “It was important to have that spark off the bench. I liked the sense of urgency right away from Milan to shoot. He was hunting, and the more he is hunting, the better we will be. We need him to hunt, catch-and-shoot, attack and get to the rim.”

Keshon Gilbert, Momcilovic, Jones, Tamin Lipsey and Jackson are all averaging double figures in scoring per game, as Momcilovic leads the team with six made 3-pointers.

“We could easily have six guys in double figures,” Otzelberger said. “I look t it like we have six starters with those four guards coming back. The minutes they play will reflect that more than who we call out to start games.”

Iowa State and IU Indianapolis have met just once before, with the Cyclones earning an 88-39 victory back in 2022. The Jaguars (2-2) played Xavier to within 14 points and are coming off a three-point loss to Eastern Michigan.

Lipsey, who had an off-night vs. Kansas City, is averaging 10 points, 4.6 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game. He is one of just 13 players since 1947-48 to average those numbers for a career while playing at least 70 games, and one of just three from Power 5 schools joining Oklahoma’s Mookie Blaylock and Ron Brown of Penn State.

Following the game, the Cyclones prepare for stiffer competition when they head to Hawaii for the Maui Invitational. Iowa State opens with Auburn and plays either North Carolina or Dayton in the next round.

Jets’ Weakness Opens Colts’ Star for Potentially Incredible Showing

Jets’ Weakness Opens Colts’ Star for Potentially Incredible Showing

Indianapolis Colts’ running back Jonathan Taylor has enjoyed an impressive bounce-back season in 2024, and his production could skyrocket even further this weekend against the New York Jets.

Coming off of two disappointing seasons plagued by injury and inconsistency, Taylor has relatively returned to his once-dominant form in 2024. He ranks top ten in yards per carry this season (at 4.9) and is fourth among all running backs in rushing yards per game (88.0). He is also on pace to break 10 rushing touchdowns for the first time since his historic 2021 campaign.

Taylor currently sits at 616 yards rushing this season and that number could grow exponentially this weekend against the Jets. Among the many factors leaning in Taylor’s favor this week, the return of starting quarterback Anthony Richardson should provide a major boost to the veteran running back.

All five of Taylor’s rushing touchdowns this season have come with Richardson at quarterback, and Taylor averages nearly a full yard per carry more with the 22 year old signal caller under center. With the Colts’ run success rate back to a more sustainable rate and with Richardson drawing away defenders in the box, Tayor should have more room to run this weekend than he has had in recent weeks.

The other massive factor to consider this weekend is the Colts’ opponent on the other side of the field. The Jets are the 26th best defense in football this season in rush EPA, and that number falls even further to 30th in the past five weeks. Their defense is also coming off of a putrid game against the Arizona Cardinals where they racked up over 20 missed tackles in the blowout loss.

The Colts have ranked favorably as a rush offense this season, sitting inside the top 10-15 in yards per carry, yards, and yards per game on the ground. The impressive aspect of those stats is that the Colts have faced just one run defense that ranks in the bottom half of the league in rush EPA through 10 weeks this season (the Chicago Bears at 24th).

The Colts have been grinding out adequate days against top tier run defenses this season, but this weekend is a chance to feed Taylor against a unit that is struggling to stop anything on the ground. The return of Richardson as the starter compounded with the Jets’ struggles stopping the run could lead to a massive performance for the star running back.

If the Colts enter this game committed to running the football, nothing should stop this team (or even Taylor for that matter) from hitting season-best numbers on the ground. This is the clear path to victory for the Colts’ offense and Taylor is primed and ready for a massive day.
