Examining the Indiana Pacers history and its impact on the future
It’s been 22 years for the reason that Indiana Pacers final made a visit to the NBA Finals. Whereas followers definitely don’t want the reminder, the 1999-’00 Pacers have been the one group in franchise historical past to achieve the NBA Finals. So, what has occurred to Indiana’s NBA group ever since?
The Pacers dismantled their championship roster. Whereas it nonetheless made the NBA playoffs within the subsequent six consecutive seasons, solely twice did Indiana make it previous the primary spherical. The 2005-2006 group marked the top of the group’s 9 consecutive playoff appearances. Throughout these 9 seasons, Indiana had three totally different head coaches; Larry Chicken, Isaiah Thomas, and Rick Carlisle.
Trying again, Indiana’s roster throughout that playoff run was outdated and had reached its peak. Sadly, it bumped into one of many biggest dynasties in NBA historical past. Dealing with the Los Angeles Lakers, the Pacers fought simply to lose to Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal in six video games.
To Indiana’s credit score, it was in a position to rapidly reload expertise versus rebuilding. Making shrewd strikes to accumulate younger ascending expertise, the Pacers have been in a position to put collectively one other core that was championship worthy.
Indiana Pacers received’t pursue Miles Bridges
All of this was one other try to get Reggie Miller a championship earlier than he retired. Sadly, probably the most beloved participant in franchise historical past by no means obtained a hoop. The group’s second-best try at a hoop throughout the Miller period in the end failed with a loss to the Detroit Pistons within the Jap Convention semifinals, a rivalry at the moment that lives in NBA historical past.
After that season the group dismantled the group and appeared to rebrand and distance themselves from the gamers synonymous with the Malice on the Palace. It proved pricey, leading to 4 lengthy seasons of shedding and dismal fan attendance.
Indiana Pacers launched new period with younger stars, repeated identical errors
Within the 2010 NBA Draft, the Pacers drafted two extra gamers that may be a part of their new finals-worthy core; Paul George and Lance Stephenson. Stephenson and George, teaming up with 2018 draftee Roy Hibbert. Whereas Indiana suffered a first-round exit at the beginning of the Frank Vogel period, everybody might see that the Pacers have been on the ascension.
Throughout the Vogel years, the group would make a run of 4 consecutive playoff appearances. Sadly, this core group of finals-worthy gamers bumped into the Miami Warmth, one other traditionally dominant group led by Corridor of Famers.
The Pacers would by no means make a finals journey and subsequently be dismantled. And one other similarity to the Miller period the Pacers tried to reload for one more NBA Finals run round George. However that’s the place the similarity ends. The group was by no means in a position to repeat that success and in the end led to George forcing his method out of Indiana.
Evaluating Indiana Pacers’ subsequent steps after shedding Deandre Ayton
To the credit score of the entrance workplace, they have been in a position to miraculously get to 2 All-Stars in change for George. For a quick second, it appeared just like the Pacers is perhaps ascending in direction of one other finals-worthy group. Nevertheless, this turned out to be fools gold or a mirage. Victor Oladipo appeared like a future star solely to show his again on the group that really believed in him. This was a really sudden flip of occasions and the group rapidly tried to salvage the group it was constructing.
It made “band-aid” strikes in buying Malcolm Brogdon and Caris Levert. In addition they moved on from Vogel, first changing him with Nate McMillan after which Nate Bjorkgren. None of those maneuvers labored and it brings us to the current day with Carlisle again on the helm.
Trying in direction of the long run
Now the group is as soon as once more showing that it’s on an upward trajectory and looking out like there can be a brand new NBA Finals-worthy core. The acquisition of Tyrese Haliburton, Buddy Hield, and Aaron Nesmith, the re-signing of Jalen Smith, and the nice drafting of Chris Duarte, Isaiah Jackson, and Bennedit Mathurin.
All Pacers followers are believing that this new group of children, a few of who’re youthful than the age of this finals drought, would be the ones to get the group again to prominence. And subsequently, ending this horrible streak and at last breaking by with an NBA title.

How to watch Indiana vs No. 23 Iowa women's college basketball: Schedule, streaming info, game preview
Conference play in women’s college basketball gets started in earnest this month and on Sunday afternoon, the 11-4 Indiana Hoosiers visit the No. 23 Iowa Hawkeyes (12-4) for a Big Ten matchup at 3pm ET on Peacock.
Indiana has just one conference loss this season — they fell to No. 1 UCLA 73-62 on Saturday, January 4th. But they bounced back with a 68-64 win over Northwestern their last time out to improve to 3-1 in the Big Ten. It was the program’s 900th win all-time, but it was also a hard-fought win against a Wildcats team that isn’t a barnburner in the conference (Northwestern is 7-9 overall, 0-5 Big Ten).
“Winning is hard,” Indiana head coach Teri Moren said after the Northwestern victory. “It’s hard at home, it’s hard on the road, and our margin of error is really small, and so, we’ve got to be much better, but we’re happy that we’re going to get out of here with the win tonight.”
For Iowa, there’s been plenty of questions and plenty of scrutiny in the post-Caitlin Clark, post-Lisa Bluder era. The Hawkeyes have kept the momentum going with their devoted fanbase: Iowa has sold out women’s basketball season tickets for the second straight season, and the team has played in front of 28 consecutive sellout crowds, the longest streak nationwide.
The Hawkeyes started off the season 8-0, but have struggled more recently, going 4-4 in their last eight games. Longtime Iowa assistant Jan Jensen took over the head coaching role from Bluder, and senior guard Lucy Olsen, a transfer from Villanova, has helped to fill the void left by Clark on the court. Olsen leads the team in scoring with 17.0 points per game, and junior forward Hannah Stuelke leads the team with 8.0 rebounds per game.

Indiana State Police arrest woman accused of helping man wanted for allegedly shooting deputy
FOX59/CBS4 has requested a mugshot of Victoria Howard, which has not been provided as of this article’s publication. The mugshot will be added once it is released.
FLOYD COUNTY, Ind. — Authorities have arrested a woman accused of helping a man flee from authorities after he allegedly shot an Orange County Sheriff’s deputy.
Indiana State Police announced the arrest of 35-year-old Victoria Howard of New Albany, alleging that she assisted Austin Schepers after he reportedly shot Deputy Zac Andry on Jan. 3 in Orange Count.
ISP said the incident occurred after Deputy Andry stopped to check on a disabled silver 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix near US Highway 150 and State Road 56. During this interaction, Schepers allegedly shot the deputy several times. Previous reports indicate Andry was transported to a Louisville-based hospital in “critical but stable condition.”
Schepers allegedly fled to a residence located in the 1800 block of Market Street in New Albany after the shooting.
Detectives believe Howard was aware that Scheper was wanted for his alleged role in the encounter and that police were searching for him.
ISP accused Howard of utilizing the ride-sharing app Lyft to assist Schepers as he looked for a ride from her apartment to the area of Craig Street and Wheeler Avenue in Louisville.
Schepers was found on Jan. 4 by investigators in the 3700 block of Wheeler Avenue where he was eventually killed during a shootout with police.
ISP said Howard was arrested without incident on Jan. 9 in Clarksville and taken to the Floyd County Jail where she was preliminarily charged with assisting a criminal (level 5 felony) and false informing (Class A misdemeanor).
ISP added that more individuals could face additional charges for allegedly helping Schepers while law enforcement was searching for him.
