Cold front brings rain and snow showers to central Indiana | Mar. 5, 2025
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A powerful low-pressure system brings 40 mph gusts, showers, and a late switch to snow today in central Indiana. Plus, a big warmup next week.
Wednesday:
A massive wound-up system continues to march through the Midwest this morning. Much of central Indiana is entering what is called the dry slot, with a heavy shield of rain sliding north and east of our state. Partial clearing is taking place over parts of Illinois and Indiana this morning.
As we await the low to move over the Midwest, a trough digging through on the southern end of the surface low could bring a few scattered showers and even a rumble of thunder as we head into the morning and afternoon hours. Temperatures will slide gradually as we go throughout the day today in the wake of the cold front moving through. We have likely already reached our high for the day today, which occurred shortly after midnight. Numbers will likely slide into the lower 40s as we head into the afternoon hours.
As we move into the afternoon and temperatures continue to rapidly cool, any lingering moisture on the back end of this area of low pressure could either mix with or completely change over to light snow showers. Snow chances then continue until later this evening. Very little, if any, accumulation is expected.
Wednesday night:
Snow will wind down shortly after midnight, leaving us partly cloudy and colder overnight with lows near 30. Meanwhile, it should be noted that it will be another blustery day with gusts near 40 mph. This will be similar to Tuesday and just below wind advisory criteria.

Thursday:
Thursday should be a relatively quiet day, although breezy at times. High pressure will settle in, ushering in cold air advection along with lots of sunshine. High temperatures will top out in the upper 30s and lower 40s.
Friday:
An upper-level wave will quickly hit the state on Friday. It appears we could see some light snow showers for the northern third of the state on Friday morning. By Friday afternoon and evening, chilly rain showers will move through the state.
Meanwhile, temperatures will only top out in the mid-40s for Friday afternoon.
This weekend:
The weekend looks pretty quiet with warming temperatures. It will still be seasonably chilly for Saturday under mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid-40s. Numbers should jump to the lower 50s under partly cloudy skies for Sunday.
Warming up next week:
The next thing next week is where things really turn more spring-like. Pretty quiet conditions as we open up the week on Monday with partly cloudy skies and highs near 60. We could make a legit run to near 70° temperatures on Tuesday, which would rival the warmest of the year thus far. The long-range pattern keeps us above average for much of next week.

“I’m out here today because what’s happening in our government is completely trash,” Donna Sipes told WRTV. “It’s wrong. We need to do something about it.”
“I’m tired of every single day when the TV comes on to see what stupid thing he’s done next,” Lindi Marti said.

Attendees noted the growing popularity of the demonstrations.
“This is my fourth one to come to. I didn’t come to all of them when it was really cold, but I’m glad to see that they are getting a lot more people out here every time,” Marti added. “It seems like there’s more and more coming.”
Demonstrators highlighted specific foreign policy concerns, including the administration’s handling of the war in Iran.
“We’re bombing the heck out of them. We’re killing civilians,” Marti’s husband said. “We’re getting ready to send our Marines.”

Others focused on the administration’s handling of immigration.
“That’s what I’m concerned about,” Reverend Kenny Little told WRTV. “Little kids, they’re taking them away from their family. And I’m just one of those people, I think everyone got rights.”
Indiana medical students also attended the rally to speak out against changes to the healthcare system.
“We’re really worried about the attacks on the health care system in general, but with Medicaid… current estimates range from anywhere from 325,000 to 450,000 Hoosiers will lose coverage by 2032,” Wade Catt said with concern.

With midterm elections approaching later this year, attendees emphasized the importance of now taking action at the ballot box.
“If we don’t vote, then things are gonna not, they’re gonna stay the same,” a protester said.
Meanwhile, Indiana Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith says he’s happy to see Hoosiers exercise their First Amendment right to protest.
However, he takes issue with the idea that President Trump is acting like a king. Beckwith says the fact that people have the freedom to protest is proof that the president is not acting like a tyrant.
He acknowledges that bridging the gap between the sides is probably an uphill battle, but believes communication is key.
“I think when you sit down with people face to face, you’re confronted with humanity. There’s another human sitting across that table from you and talking to you. And so, all I have to say, I think that’s probably the thing I would encourage all Hoosiers to do is say, ‘Hey, if you don’t agree with somebody or if you don’t like somebody, why don’t you try grabbing coffee with them? And give it 30 minutes, and just see what happens.’ I bet most of the time people will walk away with a much softer heart and spirit towards that person before they came in,” Beckwith said.
Beckwith is currently on a 92-county tour of the state. He says all sides are welcome to attend his events.
