A man was trapped in his truck for 6 days after he crashed into an Indiana creek. Police say he survived by drinking rainwater until 2 fishermen spotted him.
- Indiana State Police say authorities rescued a man from a crashed truck after he was trapped for days.
- Police said two fishermen spotted the truck and found the man alive.
- The man couldn’t call for help and drank rainwater to survive, police said.
A man who crashed his truck into an Indiana creek survived for about 6 days by drinking rainwater — and he was only rescued when two fishermen spotted him trapped inside the vehicle, police said this week.
Indiana State Police said in a press release that officials rescued Matthew Reum, 27, from a crash in Portage, Indiana, on Tuesday. The agency said Reum’s Dodge Ram went off a highway and overturned into a creek “sometime around December 20.”
Police said two fishermen looking for fishing holes spotted the crash — nearly a week later.
The men “made their way to the vehicle and observed what they thought was a lifeless person,” state police said. “However, when one of the fishermen touched the occupant, he turned his head and began to speak to them.”
One of the fishermen, Mario Garcia, told WTHR that the man had nearly lost hope.
“It looked like he was really fighting to be there, to stay around,” Garcia said. “He didn’t want to go.”
Police said Reum had been pinned inside his truck and couldn’t call for help after the crash.
Police said that Reum survived by drinking rainwater while trapped inside his vehicle, NBC Chicago reported. Officials also said the weather has been warmer than usual, which likely helped him survive, NBC Chicago reported.
“Had it not been for the two individuals that were walking the creek this afternoon, this incident more than likely would have had a different outcome,” police said.
Police said Reum was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment of “severe, life-threatening injuries.”

Indiana Beauty Queen Arrested In Mexican Cartel Drug Bust
Life can come at you really fast sometimes. One minute, you’re a beauty queen taking home a title in Indiana without a care in the world. The next you’re a flight attendant caught up in a Mexican cartel drug bust.
That’s the situation Glenis Zapata currently finds herself in. The 34-year-old was crowned Miss Indiana Latina back in 2011. She’s now facing accusations of using her job as a flight attendant to move drug money out of Chicago.
A federal indictment alleges that Zapata moved drug money from Chicago to the southern states and into Mexico. She’s been charged with two counts of money laundering.
The charges are the result of claims that she was involved in a $170,000 cash transport on August 7, 2019, and at least $140,000 on September 10, 2019.
The former beauty queen is one of 18 suspects that were arrested alongside one of the DEA’s most wanted fugitives, Oswaldo Espinosa. He’s the alleged ring leader of a multi-million dollar Mexican drug trafficking ring.
Miss Indiana Latina Got Mixed Up With The Cartel
Zapata and two bank tellers were among the latest to be arrested as a part of the investigation over several years into Espinosa’s alleged operation. One of those bank tellers was Zapata’s sister, Ilenis Zapata.
If you’re thinking that Miss Indiana Latina 2011 doesn’t look like your average member of a drug trafficking organization, you’re correct. That’s reportedly by design, according to the indictment.
Espinosa purposely recruited people from 2018 to 2023, like Zapata, who would fly under the radar while conducting their alleged criminal behavior. That makes sense from their point of view.
What doesn’t make sense is taking down a former beauty queen with the alleged ring leader? She’s the perfect candidate – who was obviously mixed up with the wrong people – to flip into a witness.
Not just any witness, a star witness. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt here. It’s entirely possible they haven’t gotten that far with her yet, but she’s not the one that needs to have the book thrown at them.

Indiana Fever's Christie Sides and her staff under pressure as Caitlin Clark arrival fails to deliver results
The Indiana Fever, once buoyed by the hype surrounding the addition of NCAA sensation Caitlin Clark, find themselves in a precarious situation as they start the season 0-5. Despite Clark’s incredible scoring records and the media buzz that followed her from college, the Fever’s performance has been far from the expected resurgence.
Head coach Christie Sides, in her efforts to harness Clark’s potential, has faced significant challenges in fostering team chemistry and optimizing game strategies. Sides has been experimenting with various lineups and plays to integrate Clark’s offensive prowess effectively.

However, the anticipated synergy between Clark and her teammates has yet to materialize on the court, raising concerns among fans and analysts alike.
Christie Sides Struggles to Harness Caitlin Clark’s Potential
If this trend of underperformance continues, the pressure on the Fever’s coaching staff and management will undoubtedly intensify. The organization, which has invested heavily in Clark’s arrival, may soon be forced to make difficult decisions.
Talent without tangible results is an unsustainable model, both for the team’s success and for maintaining the support of fans and business partners. The front office is keenly aware that prolonged losing streaks could lead to staff changes, as the demand for accountability grows.
For now, the spotlight remains on Sides and her ability to recalibrate and find the winning formula. The coming weeks will be critical as the Fever seek to turn their season around, knowing that the clock is ticking for both the current roster and those tasked with leading them.
