This was a part of a nationwide electoral technique on the a part of the Democrats based mostly on the cynical calculation that they’d fare higher within the basic election in opposition to extreme-right Republicans, together with many endorsed by Donald Trump, than in opposition to much less excessive ones. Pritzker then said that Bailey wished to get rid of a lady’s proper to decide on. “He desires to remove ladies’s reproductive rights,” the incumbent mentioned.

Bailey’s anti-abortion place is well-known. He was requested about his 2017 comparability of abortion to the Holocaust throughout his marketing campaign for a seat within the state Home, through which he declared, “The tried extermination of the Jews of World Struggle II doesn’t even evaluate on a shadow of the life that has been misplaced with abortion.”

Within the November election, there are two open seats on the Illinois Supreme Courtroom, presently made up of 4 Democrats and three Republicans. A decide’s time period is 10 years. On the poll in November is a constitutional modification guaranteeing staff the appropriate to pick their illustration and collectively discount at work, to which Bailey mentioned: “My message is that this: Unions, keep in your lane and every part will likely be positive. Depart Mother and Pop and personal enterprise alone.”

Bailey mentioned, “We’re being crushed by property taxes, crime. We’re being crushed by failed schooling, and it’s all as a result of J.B. Pritzker is hellbent on turning into essentially the most radical leftist governor in America.”

Along with a big farm enterprise that produces corn, soy and wheat, Bailey operates an unaccredited non-public college, Full Armor Christian Academy, with places in Illinois and Kentucky, the place his spouse is government director. The varsity boasts of its closely armed lecturers and workers.

On gun violence, Pritzker declared, “I consider we must ban assault weapons and excessive capability magazines within the state of Illinois.” Bailey responded semi-coherently: “The Highland Park capturing, it shouldn’t have occurred due to the legal guidelines which might be on the books, however when Governor Pritzker doesn’t comply with or obey these legal guidelines, this stuff occur.”

The Bailey marketing campaign is being showered with help from essentially the most right-wing sections of the Republican Social gathering. At a Republican gala dinner in downstate Marion two days after the talk, Donald Trump Jr. stumped for Bailey. He mentioned: “[W]e want a push for sturdy Republicans in all of those workplaces. Darren Bailey’s on this room proper now. You have got an opportunity to try this right here. If there’s ever an opportunity you possibly can unseat the lunatic in your governor’s mansion proper now, it’s this yr. As a result of individuals are taking a look at each little factor that’s occurring they usually’re saying, ‘What the hell is going on to our nation?’”

Trump, Jr. employed threatening and violent political language on the occasion, saying, “We’re sick of turning the opposite cheek. We’re sick of the live-and-let-live whereas they’re on the market day by day attempting to destroy our values, our beliefs, our freedoms and our Structure. Right here in Illinois, get him to the governor’s mansion. It is a conflict of attrition, guys, and like I mentioned, each facet of your existence is on the desk.”

The Chiefs sign former Illinois defensive end

According to Friday’s official NFL transaction report, the Kansas City Chiefs made a roster move on Friday. The team signed former Illinois defensive end Owen Carney, making room on the roster by waiving linebacker Luquay Washington.

Carney checks in at 6 foot 3 and 275 pounds. Now 25, he first joined the league as an undrafted free agent for the Miami Dolphins in 2022, but didn’t make the regular season’s initial roster. That November, the Cincinnati Bengals signed him to their practice squad — and then to a reserve/future contract for 2023. But once again, he didn’t make the team’s regular-season roster.

Over five seasons in Illinois, Carney appeared in 55 games, recording 116 tackles (53 solo, 21.5 for loss), 16 sacks, a forced fumble and three passes defensed.

The Chiefs now have 91 players under contract, with a full complement of 90 players on its active roster. (Offensive tackle Chukwuebuka Godrick has an International Pathway Program roster exemption). We now estimate that the Chiefs have $14.1 million in cap space.
