Detroit – Utility pole problems on Detroit’s west side are becoming such a safety concern for one family they no longer feel safe in their yard or parking cars in their driveway.

The issue is a pole ready to fall, and the other is who is responsible.

The pole that caused the most concern on Thursday (Oct. 3) is located on Coyle Street, on the west side.

Angela called Help Me Hank because she was worried for her safety.

“It’s been a headache,” said Angela. “It’s been people at least five different people each day to speak to someone, and I’ve been doing this for three weeks. I have two different ticket numbers, and it’s just been crazy.”

DTE crews were putting in a new pole a few weeks ago. That’s the good news. The bad news is the pole several companies share was left behind, causing chaos as it looks like it is ready to tip.

“We have an old pole that’s cracked,” Angela said. “DTE came and switched the pole out. Now, I’m fighting to find out who owns the pole and who’s coming to get it out of my backyard. It’s cracked at the bottom, and it’s dangerous.”

Angela contacted DTE, Consumers Energy, AT&T, and Comcast, but she couldn’t get a straight answer about who was responsible for the danger near her driveway.

“Now we need to leave our cars on the street, which we don’t do,” Angela said. “We have three cars and we are struggling each and every day to park our cars. And it’s been going on for at least three and a half weeks now.

Help Me Hank started making calls, and DTE jumped into action. The utility company does not own the pole, but it has taken action to make the situation safer.

The old pole is gone, and Angela is ecstatic as she can now live safely.

“I am so happy, as it took me months to get nowhere,” Angela said. “Hank got it done in hours. Thank you so much, Hank. Hank to the rescue. Go Detroit Lions and go Detroit Tigers.”

“Frequently, our poles are used for not only electric wires, but for cable, internet and phone wires as well. When we install a new pole, we move our wires and wait for the communications companies to move their equipment to the new pole before completely removing the old pole. As a courtesy to this customer, we transferred the communications lines so the old power pole could be fully removed.”

The Seattle Seahawks are finally on the losing end of a game this season following a 42-29 loss against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field.

After the loss, coach Mike Macdonald explained what the team would take away from the defeat as they look to move past it and get back to their winning ways.

“It’s two totally independent,” Macdonald said. “It just so happens it’s the same amount of points, but I think that’s probably the only thing in common, it’s the same mentality of ‘Hey, let’s look at how we’re doing things. How can we get incrementally better in all the processes? Coaches, how we organize things, how we walk through. Players, how we take meetings, how we communicate in meetings.’ Just how can we take incremental steps throughout the week to put ourselves in a position mentally so we can go out and play our best football, and then in the game how we’re communicating as coaches, how we adjust, all those things. I mean all those things around the table; we’ve talked about them. Unfortunately, this is creating an opportunity for us to really face those things head on and that’s what we’re going to do.”

This is the first loss in Macdonald’s head coaching career after grabbing wins in each of the first three weeks, making this unchartered territory for him and the Seahawks.

Now, the Seahawks get to show how they respond to a loss. If they can follow what Macdonald is preaching, they might be in a better position than when they were undefeated, because they can prove how they can pick themselves up after a loss.

(CBS DETROIT) — Starting in October, Detroit is rolling out its “Dining with Confidence” restaurant inspection placards as another step in preventing repeat violators.

“We don’t mind it. We don’t care when it comes. We don’t have nothing to hide; we’re good,” said Eric Pete, general manager of Seva.

The placards will show when restaurants are in compliance. Detroit City Council passed the ordinance earlier this summer.

After unveiling the program, Detroit joins other cities like New York City. Aside from online reviews like Google and Yelp, businesses believe this is just another way of helping customers choose where to eat.

Pete believes it’ll push offenders to keep their establishments up to code. 

“Even if it’s just a façade, you want to make sure if you know you’re being judged, you want to do something about it,” he told CBS News Detroit.

There are three categories: Green compliance means a business doesn’t have serious violations. White equals temporary for places that have yet to be inspected or if the establishment requires corrections. Red means the restaurant is closed due to severe health hazards.

“When they say compliance, I’d definitely like to know what that means. Is it the kitchen, the equipment?” Sandeep Giduthuri said.

For customers like Sandeep, he believes it’s important to know how compliant a business is. Each placard will come with a QR code to provide more information on the inspections.

“There are some people who it doesn’t matter; they are going to be there at their favorite spot, and they don’t care, but in general, I think most people will take this into action,” Pete said.

Pete believes as this new ordinance expands some businesses could see a decrease in customers. He believes that will ultimately lead to closures. 

“If I’m eating here, I should be able to confidently tell myself and my family that guys, we had a good meal and a clean, healthy meal,” Giduthuri said.
