You May Not like Idaho's Governor but don’t be a jackass

At what point does your rage against politicians become irrational? Idaho Governor Brad Little posted a Father’s Day message over the weekend on Facebook. It immediately drew snide comments from people who don’t like him for any slight they believe he’s inflicted.
There’s a difference between having legitimate differences with the Governor and just being a jerk.
A neighbor in my high school class didn’t like someone at school. “I just don’t like him,” was his reply when I asked why. I never thought that was a reasonable explanation, and I considered the neighbor an idiot.
I’ve had my political differences with the Governor (see COVID), but when I’ve met him, he’s always been polite, and self-effacing and he can laugh and also laugh at himself. He plays hardball politics, and it’s not pretty. But he wouldn’t be the first person in elective office to take that approach. It’s the norm and not an aberration.
He also has a family and I’m sure loves his wife and kids. When he posts a message about family and shares a family picture, it’s not the same as ordering a COVID lockdown.
If you want your concerns heard, start by being civilized. Brad Little wouldn’t be my first choice for Governor at the moment, but he sure was a better choice than Paulette Jordan. He was also a better choice than the forgotten Democrat who challenged him in 2022.
You can call him a RINO, and yes I wish he was much more like Ron DeSantis, but I’ve lived under a lot of moderate Republican Governors and a lot of Democrats. The former are often disappointments. The latter are downright scary.

The Supreme Court seems poised to allow emergency abortions in Idaho, a Bloomberg News report says

The Supreme Court appears poised to allow emergency abortions in Idaho when a pregnant patient’s health is at serious risk, according to Bloomberg News, which said a copy of the opinion briefly posted Wednesday on the court’s website.
The document suggests the court will conclude that it should not have gotten involved in the case so quickly and will reinstate a court order that had allowed hospitals in the state to perform emergency abortions to protect a pregnant patient’s health, Bloomberg said. The document was quickly removed from the website.
The Supreme Court acknowledged that a document was inadvertently posted Wednesday.
“The Court’s Publications Unit inadvertently and briefly uploaded a document to the Court’s website. The Court’s opinion in Moyle v. United States and Idaho v. United States will be issued in due course,” court spokeswoman Patricia McCabe said in a statement.
The case would continue at the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals if the high court dismisses proceedings.
The finding may not be the court’s final ruling, since it has not been officially released.
The Biden administration had sued Idaho, arguing that hospitals must provide abortions to stabilize pregnant patients in rare emergency cases when their health is at serious risk.
Most Republican-controlled states began enforcing restrictions after the court overturned Roe v. Wade two years ago.
Idaho is among 14 states that outlaw abortion at all stages of pregnancy with very limited exceptions. It said that its ban does allow abortions to save a pregnant patient’s life and federal law doesn’t require the exceptions to expand.
The Supreme Court had previously allowed the measure to go into effect, even in medical emergencies, while the case played out. Several women have since needed medical airlifts out of state in cases in which abortion is routine treatment to avoid infection, hemorrhage and other dire health risks, Idaho doctors have said.

If you’re not familiar, Temu is an e-commerce site selling everything from clothes to electronics, all at a significantly lower price than you’d typically see from other online retailors. The Chinese-owned site is a legitimate business, however, you’re going to want to know this:
Temu is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau, and has an average rating of 2.5 out of 5 stars.
If you start to look into it, you’ll find story after story about customers who never received their orders, or somehow even worse, would receive orders that were counterfeit, or not exactly what they purchased. There are plenty of stories floating around on the internet with similar experiences.
If you’re still insistent on ordering from the site, here are a few pointers to keep yourself safe:
- Use “Hide My Email” if ordering on your iPhone
- Get an alias email from your provider
- Never, ever link your bank account or credit card to an online retailer. Instead, consider Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, or even a gift card
What’s your experience been ordering from Temu? Did everything go by the books, or did you run into an issue like many other customers?

The following is a news release from the College of Eastern Idaho.
IDAHO FALLS — The College of Eastern Idaho (CEI) Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Lori Barber as the second president of CEI. She is expected to assume the office on August 1, 2024.
The Board of Trustees thanks the entire College community for participating in the presidential finalist forums. All feedback was reviewed and greatly valued by the Board. This collaborative and concerted work truly enriched the search process. Board Chair Park Price stated — “I would like to express appreciation to the Presidential Search Committee for their time, dedication, and thoughtful work on behalf of CEI. President Rick Aman has built a strong leadership team at CEI and Dr. Barber has been a key member of that team. The trustees are confident that Dr. Barber will build upon the success that CEI has enjoyed thus far.”
Dr. Barber has served as Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs at College of Eastern Idaho since 2019. Previously, Dr. Barber served as the Dean of General Education at CEI. Dr. Barber earned a Doctor of Education in Leadership and Innovation from Arizona State University; a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies in History and Anthropology from Idaho State University; and a Bachelor of Arts and Letters in History from Idaho State University. She recently spearheaded the development and state approval of two applied baccalaureate degrees, making CEI the only community college in the state to offer two such programs. Under her leadership, CEI’s Academic and Student Affairs achieved a successful year-7 accreditation reaffirmation. Additionally, Dr. Barber has been a member of the Idaho Launch Initiative Policy Committee, contributing to the creation of guidelines for distributing $75 million to Idaho high school seniors.
“I am honored to have been selected as the second President of College of Eastern Idaho.” Said Dr. Barber. “As CEI moves into this new phase, I am thrilled to lead the College to the next level of excellence. I am excited to work with business and industry leaders to ensure they have the exceptionally trained workforce they need. I am equally excited to work with our four-year university partners to transfer academically strong learners to their institutions. I have a clear vision for how we can continue to grow as a cutting-edge institution. With our talented faculty and staff, I am ready to lead CEI in its continued success, building on the best that already exists and creating new possibilities of excellence.”
