A machete-wielding man was arrested after leading officers on a pursuit through San Bernardino County Tuesday.

Upland Police initially responded to a disturbance at a home on the 200 block of North 10th Avenue.

The male suspect, who was not identified, had kicked in the front door and threatened two victims inside, police said.

While carrying a machete, the suspect reportedly threatened to kill the victims before striking them with the weapon, according to officers.

Both victims were left with lacerations but survived the attack.

The suspect fled the scene. Police responding to the area spotted the suspect’s vehicle and attempted to pull him over, but he refused to cooperate, leading police on a pursuit.

The chase eventually ended after the suspect crashed into a patrol car. He exited the car and attempted to run away but was “quickly captured and arrested,” Upland Police said.

The man was taken into custody on attempted murder charges. Police confirmed the victims knew the suspect, but no further details were released. His identity was not released as the case remains under investigation.

A massive dust devil ripping through an open field in Riverside County over the weekend was captured on a driver’s cellphone camera.  

The Aug. 11 twister was spotted near Dunlap Road and San Jacinto Avenue, about eight miles south of the Lake Perris State Recreation Area. 

Footage of the incident showed the twister combined with a second dust devil, making it look even more ominous.  

A little more than a week before this dust devil was spotted, on Aug. 2, a skydiving instructor, 28-year-old Deverey LaRiccia Chase, and her student, 28-year-old Kayla Kieko Black, were killed after they were caught up in a pair of dust devils during a routine jump in Perris.  

A “dust devil” is a small, rotating column of air that picks up dust and debris from the ground on hot days; while they resemble tornadoes, they are generally considered to be harmless, except for certain circumstances.   

“She missed the first one, and when she maneuvered around it, she hit the second one,” Freddy Chase, a skydiver himself, said of his wife.  “At that point, she was about 25 to 30 feet in the air … it sent her canopy in a downward spiral.”   

With no time left to react, both Devrey and Kayla slammed into the ground.   

The two were rushed to a local hospital, where the former succumbed to her injuries that day and the latter just two days later.  

A transient is behind bars after he threatened a Subway employee with a knife when that worker asked him to stop filling up his personal cup from the fountain drink station, authorities said.

The man, Robert David Rose, entered the sandwich shop in the 16200 block of D Street in Victorville at about 12:30 p.m. Monday, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Rose, a 43-year-old transient who frequents the Victorville area, entered the restaurant and began filling up a personal cup out of the fountain drink machine, officials said.

“When Rose was asked to stop using the fountain drink station, he lifted his shirt and brandished a large knife tucked inside his waistband at the employee,” the release added.

Rose was tracked down on the southbound 15 Freeway about one mile north of the Mojave Drive exit and taken into custody, at which point a knife matching the Subway worker’s description was located, the release said.

He was booked into the High Desert Detention Center on multiple charges:

• Robbery
• Possession of a dirk or dagger
• Exhibit deadly weapon
• Two counts of shoplifting
• Obstruction of a public officer
• Trespassing

Jail records indicate the charges are split up between several cases, and Rose is due to appear in Victorville Superior Court on Tuesday and Wednesday.
