Published

on

A mother was recently arrested after she allegedly left her young daughter in a hot car before clocking into work.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) announced the arrest of Ashlee Stallings, 36, on Thursday. The mother has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and child abuse by willful act causing serious injury related to the death of her 8-year-old daughter.

In a press release, police explained that Stallings’ daughter was found in critical condition in a hot car in Charlotte on Wednesday. Officers were alerted to the situation around 6:30 p.m.

“Upon arrival, officers located an 8-year-old female in critical condition inside of a vehicle,” the police’s statement read. “The victim was transported to the hospital and was later pronounced deceased.”

“Upon further investigation it was determined that the victim was left in a vehicle in hot weather conditions and suffered a medical emergency.”

The girl’s cause of death was listed as a brain herniation due to hyperthermia, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by WTVD. In the affidavit, police reported that Stalling returned to her car and found her daughter breathing shallowly and foaming at the mouth.

The mother then used a hammer to break open the back window and attempted to drive to a hospital before stopping and asking a local business for help. The suspect told police that she was aware of the fact that her daughter was in the car, but that she left air conditioning on.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the report of the young child in distress.

Stallings “believed the victim turned the car off because she was cold,” the affidavit said.

“She admitted she knew the temperature was 94 degrees outside and that she should not have left the victim inside the car alone,” police added.

Stallings was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office after her arrest.

Fox News Digital reached out to the CMPD for more information, but has not heard back.

Four people and one suspect are dead after a shooting in Kentucky early Saturday, the Florence Police Department says.

The shooting took place at around 2:50 a.m. at a home on Ridgecrest Drive, located in the city of Florence, in northern Kentucky, Florence Police Chief Jeff Mallery said at a press briefing Saturday.

A 21st birthday party was taking place at a residence there which suddenly turned deadly, Mallery said.

Police were called to the scene after receiving calls about an active shooter and when they arrived they still heard shots being fired, he said.

The suspect, identified by Mallery as 20-year-old Chase Garvey, fled the scene southbound in a vehicle, sparking a police chase, but it crashed into a ditch on Dale Heimbrock Way near Hicks Pike after Garvey shot himself.

He was found by police with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The four deceased victims were all adults and named as Delaney Eary, 19, Hayden Rybicki, 20, Melissa Parrett, 44, and Shane Miller, 20.

The party was being held at Parrett’s home for her 21-year-old child, according to the chief.

Garvey was not invited to the party, but did know those celebrating, a visibly shaken Chief Mallery explained.

“We’ve never dealt with this before and now it’s going on through the nation, but this is the first time we’ve had a mass shooting in Florence, so yeah, it’s very emotional.”

“We train on this, hoping it would never happen, but unfortunately, we’ve been touched like so many departments and cities,” Mallery said.

A motive for the shooting is unclear.

The other three victims were transported to a local hospital and currently listed as critical but stable, Mallery said. He said they are expected to make a full recovery.

Alligator safety tips from the SCDNR

“If you see an alligator, stay alert and aware and do not approach it.”

“Remain aware of your surroundings, stay away from the water’s edge, and if you encounter an alligator, keep a respectful distance”

“Feeding alligators is illegal and can result in animals that associate people with food, which increases the likelihood of negative interactions.”

“Alligators will open their mouth, hiss, and move forward about a foot or two if they feel particularly threatened (this is called a ‘bluff lunge’).”

“Alligators are more mobile during mating season, which can increase the likelihood of encountering one on land or in a new area.”

“Alligators eat everything from small frogs and snakes to turtles, birds, fish, and mammals like raccoons, opossums and even occasionally deer.”
