A Florida sheriff went viral on X for declaring that criminals with outstanding warrants would be arrested at the entryway of Hurricane Milton evacuation shelters and sent to the county jail for immediate processing.

Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly announced during a briefing that he has no tolerance for relaxing law enforcement’s activities against the “criminal element,” even during a hurricane.

“Anyone that comes in will be checked to make sure they’re not a fugitive and not a sex offender,” he said at the briefing. “If you are a predator, you are not allowed in the [sic] shelter. If you are a designated a sex predator in a court of law, you’ll need to go to… the county jail,” he said.

He explained in an interview with Fox News Digital that people with outstanding warrants will be arrested at the evacuation shelter. Sex predators, even if they do not have outstanding warrants, should go directly to the county jail, where they will be housed behind bars, until after the storm.

“Anybody that comes in is checked through a state national database to make sure that they are or not a sex predator or sex offender or a fugitive criminal element,” he said.

“We want to be able to ensure that there’s a safe environment, whether it’s children with their parents, senior citizens, whoever, that we’re not co-mingling them with inappropriate people. When it comes to sex predators, they are not allowed in our shelters that are open to the general public so they can go to our county jail and we will put them up in the fire of the jail. And when the storm is over, we’ll unlock the door and push them out the door.”

Florida sheriffs are known for their no-nonsense attitudes, particularly when it comes to criminals.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey has been considered “the most politically incorrect sheriff in the country” for his refusal to mince words when it comes to his dislike of criminals, whom he proudly refers to as “idiots” and “dirtbags.”

Ivey is vocal on social media about his programs such as “Wheel of Fugitive,” where he spins a wheel to determine who will get arrested that day. As for those who disagree with him blasting criminals publicly? The sheriff says they should “shut up.”

Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson encourages citizens to shoot to kill home invaders to save taxpayer money.

“If someone is breaking into your house, you’re more than welcome to shoot. We prefer you to do that, actually,” he said in 2022.

“If somebody gets killed during a home invasion, the odds of them re-offending are zero. And we like those odds.” he said.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd infamously recommended shooting looters until they resemble “grated cheese.”

“I’m highly recommending they blow you back out of the house with their guns,” Judd said in 2020. “I would highly suggest that if a looter comes into your home, breaks into your home while you’re there, to steal stuff, that you take your gun and you shoot him. You shoot him so that he looks like grated cheese.”

Abandoned dog left tied to fence before Hurricane Milton now 'safe and sound' with new name

The bull terrier that stole hearts after it was tied to a fence and abandoned before Hurricane Milton ravaged Florida is now recovering in foster care.

The update was announced by the Leon County Humane Society on Thursday. The terrier, now named Trooper after the law enforcement officers who rescued him, is currently being cared for.

“We wanted to let those who have been following this story know that he is safe and sound, because we’ve been worried about him since seeing his story,” the organization said in a Facebook post.

“We also want those following to know that we take animal abandonment seriously and will be closely watching his case and using his experience to educate.”

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) shared heart-wrenching video of Trooper being rescued by an officer on the side of a freeway on Wednesday as Milton began to bear down on the area before making landfall as a Category 3 storm with 120 mph winds later that night.

The bodycam footage shows the perspective of the officer, who walks towards Trooper and gently talks to him before removing him from the fence.

“It’s OK, buddy. It’s OK,” the officer said as the scared bull terrier growled at him. Trooper was leg-deep in floodwater when he was saved.

The Leon County Humane Society said that Trooper’s caretakers are still getting to know the dog and tending to him, as he arrived at the shelter in an anxious state.

“He’s incredibly stressed and still decompressing,” the animal shelter said. “Abandoning a dog like this doesn’t typically allow for an immediate bounce back to their happy selves.”

“Most dogs when rescued take a few days to feel safe, a few weeks to come out of their shell, and a few months to become comfortable and fall into a routine.”

The video attracted the attention of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who called out the dog’s owners in a social media post.

“It is cruel for anyone to leave a dog tied to a post in the middle of an oncoming storm. FL will hold anyone who mistreats pets accountable,” DeSantis wrote.

The Leon County Humane Society will put Trooper up for adoption once the dog “is ready,” the organization said. It is not currently accepting applications.

“We have absolutely no idea what his life looked like before he was abandoned,” the humane society explained. “We want to be sure that we know exactly what he needs before even considering adoption, so he’ll be in foster care until we feel confident he’s ready for the next phase of life, and that his future will be kind to him.”

A Broadway dancer has been missing for over a week from his home in South Carolina.

Zelig Williams, a 28-year-old professional dancer who appeared in “Hamilton” in 2016, was last seen driving in the area of Congaree National Park.

Authorities located his abandoned vehicle at the Palmetto Trail Parking lot off Bluff Road — about a 30-minute drive from the location where Williams was last spotted, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

“RCSD was contacted by a family member on Oct. 04, 2024, and stated that Williams had not been heard from by any family member since Oct. 03,” RCSD said in a press release. “This is out of character for Williams to go without contact.”

Less than a month prior to his disappearance, Williams took to Facebook to announce that he was “10 days away from Broadway Dance Bootcamp.” Williams had been teaching dance lessons to children between the ages of 11 and 18 in Columbia.
