Person of interest wanted in numerous fire investigations

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A person of interest is wanted in connection with “multiple fire investigations” in the Huntington area, the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office said.

Investigators say they believe that person has knowledge that could help them with the investigations.

“It is possible that this person could be driving a gold Chrysler van,” the release states.

Anyone with information is asked to call the WV ARSON HOTLINE at 1-800-233-FIRE (3473). That hotline is a 24-hour number.

Best Prop Bets for Iowa State vs. West Virginia in College Football Week 7

Best Prop Bets for Iowa State vs. West Virginia in College Football Week 7

Iowa State faces a stiff road test on Saturday night in Week 7 action when the team heads to Morgantown to face West Virginia.

Rocco Becht has been stellar this season as quarterback of the Cyclones, but will his arm be negated by the dual-threat capability of Mountaineers quarterback Garrett Greene?

Here are two bets we are making in the player prop market for Saturday night’s high leverage Big 12 tilt.

Garrett Greene OVER 53.5 Rushing Yards

As noted in this week’s Reed ‘Em and Weep, I’m targeting Greene’s rushing yards prop as one of my favorite player props this week.

The dual threat Garrett Greene may have some shortcomings as a passer, but I believe his ability to stress defenses with his legs is going to open up this Iowa State defense for the home team to move the ball down the field. I’m eyeing his rushing yard prop at 55.5 yet again despite leaving last week with an injury.

Now with a wide offering, his rushing yards prop is at 53.5, so the point still stands.

Greene has gone over this mark in three of five games this season, and seven of 12 full games last season. Iowa State’s defense has injuries at linebacker and ranks outside the top 100 in tackling, per Pro Football Focus.

This will be a big test for an untested Cyclones defense, and Greene has the ability to use his legs to make life difficult for the opposing defense.

Keep going over on Greene’s rushing yards.

Rocco Becht OVER 245.5 Passing Yards

From my Reed ‘Em and Weep column, I discussed my fears for the Mountaineers secondary against an explosive Iowa State passing offense.

I do have concerns about the other side of the ball for West Virginia, as the team is 133rd in explosive pass defense and the secondary is going to struggle to keep up with Becht’s big arm. The Cyclones have been a potent passing attack all season, and the team’s ability to give Becht time to throw is critical. The team has allowed only three sacks on the season.

The Iowa State passing offense is top 30 in the country in terms of EPA/Pass with Becht leading the way.

In a game that can evolve into a shootout quickly, I’m going over his passing yards, something he has gone over in two of three games against Power Four opponents.

Local Miners React to West Virginia’s ‘Coal Rush’ Uniforms

The coal industry means so much to the people in the state of West Virginia and has for decades. Most West Virginians have a coal miner or two somewhere in the family and in a lot of cases, mining runs through several generations of the family.

It’s one of the few industries that has done very well in the state, but going under the ground is no easy chore. It’s a dangerous job that puts a huge amount of stress on the families each day their loved one leaves early in the morning for work.

Recently, the creative and social media team at WVU took the new Coal Rush jersey and helmet to a local mine to show off the new look to a few miners and they were honored by the tribute.

“I just look at it and I think it’s just a really good tribute to all coal miners past, present, and future. It’s basically helped shape the history of the coal mining in this state,” one miner said in the video.

“We come in here for our families, our kids, our wives…to get to do that every day and then to have you guys show us that you’re recognizing us, that means a lot to us.”

West Virginia tight ends coach Blaine Stewart was also featured in the video and stated, “If our football team could encapsulate that culture of toughness, grit, an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay, I think we’ll make this state proud.”

The Mountaineers will sport the new all-black look this Saturday against Iowa State at 8 p.m. EST.

WVU presidential search officially begins Friday – WV MetroNews

Dr. Patrice Harris

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The search for the next president of West Virginia University will officially begin Friday with the release of the leadership profile completed after hours of listening sessions with the campus community.

On MetroNews “Talkline,” Patrice Harris, co-chair of the WVU Board of Governors (BOG) and chair of the ad hoc committee guiding the search, said the 25-page document lays out the attributes of the university and community. The document details the R-1 status of the university, athletics, student life, and community life, but also highlights the challenges the next leader would accept.

“Clearly, when the next person comes into this role, we would want them to understand not only the best of what West Virginia University has to offer but also the challenges,” Harris said.

Friday, October 11, the firm hired to conduct the search, WittKieffer, will officially release the profile and accept nominations and resumes. Harris said they will focus on verifiable experience and how that can help advance the university.

“We will be looking for someone who appreciates and understands the university’s commitment to our land grant mission and what that means to the state,” Harris said. “The vital role that WVU plays in our state as well.”

Names of the finalists will not be released as part of the process in order to protect those who apply and to prevent disruptions during the interview process.

“We know that maintaining confidentiality is an expectation of candidates in today’s market,” Harris said. “This is a “best practice” confirmed by WittKiefer, and we know that publicly naming finalists can deter a top candidate.”

The BOG and ad hoc search committee will review resumes, conduct initial interviews, and reduce the field to the top three to five candidates. The same group will conduct in-person interviews with the finalists, and the next president of WVU will be announced in the spring of 2025.

“The WVU Board of Governors and the Ad Hoc Search Committee will interview the finalists, and our search committee is comprised of an expansive representation across the university community.”
