FC Dallas looks for a rare win away from home in 2024 tonight when they taken on St. Louis CITY SC in the opening game of the Leagues Cup.
Both clubs have their lineups in, so let’s break them down.
On Friday, Peter Luccin discussed his desire to use a strong lineup in this tournament. And we kind of got that. Kind of.
Up top, Petar Musa returns to the lineup, fresh off his MLS All-Star Game appearance on Wednesday night. He’ll have Paul Arriola and Logan Farrington in support.
The midfield sees Carl Sainte earn his second straight start in the middle next to Tsiki Ntsabeleng. Marco Farfan and Ema Twumasi will be on the wings.
It is a strong group defensively, with Sebastien Ibeagha, Nkosi Tafari and Sam Junqua earning the start in the back.
And finally, in goal we have All-Star keeper Maarten Paes.
Seeing how it is a deeper bench for this tournament, I think we could see a few changes in the second half. Asier Illarramendi could get around 25-30 minutes in this one as he is working back from an ankle injury.
From there, it could be a very young set of subs come into this one with guys like Tarik Scott, Tomas Pondeca, Bernard Kamungo and Dante Sealy available on the bench.
Suspended: none

Messi, Argentina win second straight Copa America final
USA TODAY Sports’ Safid Deen recaps the Copa America final where Argentina defeated Colombia for their second-straight title in this tournament.
Lionel Messi won’t be in action, but Inter Miami will begin its Leagues Cup tournament title defense tonight against LIGA MX side Puebla at Chase Stadium.
Messi remains week to week with his right ankle ligament injury he suffered during Argentina’s win in the Copa America final on July 14.
However, Inter Miami is on a roll, winning six of seven games without Messi dating to last month. Puebla has started its LIGA MX season with a win, draw and two losses.
Inter Miami vs. Puebla is one of seven Leagues Cup tournament matches on Saturday. Follow along here for live updates from tonight’s match, and other Leagues Cup game highlights:
The Inter Miami and Puebla match begins at 8 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.
Columbus Crew standout Cucho Hernandez has a hat trick in the first half as against English Premier League club Aston Villa in a friendly on Saturday night.

Messi may not be in action, but he’s in the stands and in camera’s sight for tonight’s match.
Matias Rojas has Inter Miami on the board after nine minutes with a stellar left boot to give his side an early 1-0 lead.
A beautiful entry pass by Jordi Alba was scored by Marcelo ‘Chelo’ Weigandt in the fourth minute, but Weigandt was offsides. The set piece won’t count for Miami.
Here’s the starting lineups for both sides:
No, Messi is not playing tonight. He remains sidelined due to his right ankle injury.
Messi is not with the Argentina team, competing at the Paris Olympics. He’s with Inter Miami after his Copa America run.
