PSG vs Inter Miami odds, prediction: Just how unlikely is it for Messi’s team to pull off the upset?

PSG vs Inter Miami odds, prediction: Just how unlikely is it for Messi’s team to pull off the upset?

If anything is likely to bring the Club World Cup to life, it’s this. Inter Miami’s 2-2 draw with Palmeiras earlier in the week means Lionel Messi will take on one of his former clubs, Paris Saint-Germain, in the last 16.

Miami have been excellent in the tournament thus far and, were it not for two goals conceded in the last ten minutes on their last outing, would have topped the group and avoided this clash with PSG. Despite this, they still became the first MLS side to avoid defeat against CONMEBOL opposition since all the way back in 2005 (Los Angeles FC matched this with a draw against Flamengo a day later).

Miami were not expected to progress from a group containing Palmeiras, Porto and Egyptian champions Al Ahly. However, they have come through the group stage undefeated and were within a whisker of topping the table. PSG, however, will be the sternest test they’ve faced so far.

PSG won the UEFA Champions League final with a resounding 5-0 victory over Inter Milan and they will be hoping for a similar result against another Inter. In truth, the French giants were the best team in Europe last season and worthy winners of the ultimate prize in their very first Champions League final.

This tournament feels somewhat after the lord mayor’s show for the French side. They suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Botafogo before recovering enough to top their group. This is the most enjoyable PSG team in decades, comprised as it is of impressive young talent as opposed to star names imported for big money.

Miami have been magnificent thus far at the Club World Cup and have surprised many with their performances. The likes of Messi, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets are genuine greats of the game who have helped take soccer in America to a new level ahead of the World Cup next summer and Sir David Beckham’s involvement off the pitch simply cannot be overlooked.

Despite all this, it is hard to look past PSG here. They might not have been at their best during this tournament but one senses this is a team capable of raising their game when they have to. One wouldn’t bet against PSG going all the way at the Club World Cup but this should be a fascinating clash between a team with a smattering of stardust and another who have finally reached the summit after eschewing a Galacticos-style approach.

‘He has a gun’: 911 calls reveal moments before Miami-Dade deputy’s battery arrest

New 911 calls are revealing the moments before a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputy was arrested on kidnapping and battery charges following an incident with his girlfriend.

Terrance Dion Chester, 28, was arrested by Broward Sheriff’s deputies in Pompano Beach and booked into jail Thursday morning.

According to an arrest report, Chester repeatedly struck his girlfriend and mother of his child, and when she tried to get away, he allegedly grabbed her by the hair and dragged her back into the couple’s house, pulling out a gun at one point.

“There’s a woman being beat on somebody and he has a gun, I don’t know if that’s her boyfriend or what,” a caller tells a dispatcher in one of the calls. “He’s swinging her around ma’am.”

Multiple neighbors apparently witnessed the incident as it unfolded late Wednesday night.

“The gate was wide open and we seen the lady on the floor begging for help,” one says in one of the calls. “She’s getting hit on for sure. She’s obviously not able to get far because he’s already pulling out guns and stuff.”

The victim’s sister also called 911 at one point.

“They have a 2-year-old baby and that baby is in the house,” she said in the call.

Broward Sheriff’s deputies arrived and said they were able to take the gun away from Chester.

Chester went before a judge on Friday, where his bond was set at $90,000.

During the aparance, his defense attorney mentioned Chester had no priopr criminal history, and at one point downplayed the kidnapping allegation.

“So basically the kidnapping is going from just outside the residence to inside the residence where she is let go and she is free to go outside,” the attorney said.

The prosecutor asked the judge to keep Chester locked up.

“The victim was dragged back into the home, there was a small child in the home. Thankfully she was able to escape from the home with the child and contacting law enforcement. If she were unable to, it’s concerning where this could’ve gone,” the prosecutor said.

Chester later posted the bond. When he leaves jail he’ll have to wear a GPS monitor, will be on house arrest, and is prohibited from contacting the alleged victim or having weapons.

Chester, who’s been with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office for five years, was relieved of duty but is still an employee for now.

“I am deeply troubled and angered by the arrest of one of my deputies on serious domestic related charges. This conduct is completely unacceptable and stands in direct violation of our values and the law,” Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said in a statement. “I want to make it absolutely clear; no one is above the law! The safety and wellbeing of victims will always take priority, and any member of this agency who violates the trust of this community or their oath of service will be held fully accountable. The deputy is currently relieved of duty. There is no place for violence in this profession or in our homes.”
