Georgia football continues to strengthen its secondary with yet another 2026 commit.
Jontavius Wyman, a four-star defensive back from Jonesboro, GA, announced his commitment to play for head coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs early Saturday morning.

Wyman is a 5 ’11, 170 pound defender who secured 37 tackles, 12 pass break ups and 5 interceptions on defense en route to being named Georgia Region 3-AAAAAA Player of the Year as a sophomore.
“It’s a winning program,” Wyman told UGASports.com after receiving an offer on May 8. “They provide life after football. They will help you even when your time is done. Their defense is amazing, what they are doing over there is different. They use their corners in man, zone, blitzes, et cetera. It’s a great system and place where they put out great corners into the NFL. Coach Donte (Williams) and Coach T-Rob (Travaris Robinson) have a great history of great players.”
Wyman, the No. 12 cornerback and the No. 154 overall recruit in the country for 2026, chose the Bulldogs over Oregon, Texas A&M, Tennessee and others. He also has experience on the track, posting a 12.16 in the 100-meter dash, 24.17 in the 200-meter dash and 5-4 in the long jump during his freshman campaign.

He is now the third commitment for Georgia in the class of 2026, which ranked seventh prior to Wyman’s commitment.
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Saturday marked 100 days until the monumental general election that could decide whether Kamala Harris becomes the Oval Office’s first woman of color or if former President Donald Trump becomes only the second man ever elected to non-consecutive terms.
Harris will be in Atlanta on Tuesday, marking her sixth appearance in the Peach State this year. But this week’s visit will be her first as the Democratic Party’s presumptive presidential nominee after President Joe Biden dropped a political bombshell last Sunday when he announced he is ending his 2024 reelection bid.
Harris has previously appearing at events focused on topics like gun safety and economic opportunity. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens has endorsed Harris, as have all Georgia Democrats in the state House and Senate and much of Georgia’s congressional delegation.
Biden’s withdrawal quickly become the nation’s hottest political topic and, for the moment, eclipsed the attempted assassination of Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, along with a completely unified GOP after the Republican National Convention.

Trump, for his part, held a rally last week in Charlotte, North Carolina, in which he attacked Harris for the first time as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. The rally was his first since Biden ended his reelection bid.
“I was supposed to be nice,” Trump said. “They say something happened to me when I got shot, I became nice. If you don’t mind, I’m not going to be nice. Is that okay?” he continued, as the crowd roared.
Several polls came out last week that all show a potential Harris-Trump race to be virtual tossups. An NPR/PBS News Marist Poll conducted July 22, 2024, shows Trump leading Harris 46% to 45%, with 9% of voters undecided. Marist’s one-day survey of 1,309 adults was conducted July 22, 2024.
In a Reuters poll, Harris has opened a two-percentage-point lead over Trump, as she continues to consolidate the Democratic Party’s support after Biden’s stunning Sunday announcement he is ending his 2024 reelection bid.

Those polls were released after Monday’s national poll by Quinnipiac University that also showed the potential matchup – Harris has not been officially chosen as the Democratic Party’s White House nominee – a dead heat.

The Quinnipiac poll, conducted from Friday, July 19-21, showed Trump receiving 49% support and Harris receiving 47% support.
Had Biden faced Trump, it would have been the first time two presidential candidates would have faced each other in consecutive elections since 1956, when GOP President Dwight D. Eisenhower again defeated Democrat Adlai Stevenson in a repeat of the 1952 election.
President Joe Biden has now become the first sitting president since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968 to end his reelection bid.
The Democratic National Convention is set to convene in Chicago Aug. 19-22, 2024. Harris seems to have secured enough delegates to win the nomination; now, all eyes are focused on who she will choose as her vice presidential running mate.
Trump’s GOP White House nomination was already unprecedented:
First time the GOP has nominated the same candidate for three consecutive years;
First time the GOP has nominated a president who lost a reelection bid for another term;
First time an impeached president has been nominated for another term;
First time any major political party has nominated a convicted felon for president.
Since the Pennsylvania shooting, Trump is now a major political party’s first White House nominee to have survived an assassination attempt.
On Oct. 14, 1912, former President Theodore Roosevelt – already nominated by the independent Bull Moose Party – was shot in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (site of the recently ended 2024 GOP convention). Roosevelt not only survived but refused medical attention until he delivered his almost-90 minute speech.

Biden is the first sitting president since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968 to end his reelection bid. He is also the first presidential candidate in modern political history to withdraw from the race after winning virtually all of his party’s delegates.

ATLANTA, Ga. (WAVE) – Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear will be speaking at a campaign event for Vice President Kalama Harris in the battleground state of Georgia on Sunday.
On Thursday, WAVE News confirmed Beshear is officially being vetted by the Harris campaign as a possible running mate in Harris’ presidential run.
Eric Hyers, a campaign strategist for Andy Beshear, confirmed to WAVE News that Beshear will be attending one of the Democratic Party of Georgia’s “Weekend of Action” events to support Harris’ campaign. He will be speaking at the opening of Harris’ Forsyth County campaign office, according to Melissa Blink, Congressional District Chair for the Democratic Party of Georgia. The event begins at 11 a.m.
Blink told WAVE News Beshear is the only potential vice presidential picks who will be attending the event in Forsyth County. Several other local and congressional Democratic candidates will also be speaking.

The campaign appearance follows Beshear’s remarks during a Team Kentucky press conference earlier in the week, where Beshear said he was “honored to be considered” among possible VP picks. Beshear added, “I’ll do everything I can between now and Election Day to elect Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States of America.”
Harris is expected to move up the ticket as the Democratic nominee during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August. This comes after President Joe Biden ended his reelection campaign on July 21.
Georgia is considered a battleground state. In the 2020 election, about 65% of Forsyth County voted for then-President Donald Trump. However, President Joe Biden won the state by 0.2% of the vote in 2020 and, ultimately, the presidency. Biden flipped the seat from 2016, when Trump won Georgia with just under 51% of the vote. Before 2020, Georgia had a 20-year streak of voting Republican in presidential elections.
Speaking at the Forsyth County event comes just one day after Beshear headlines Iowa Democrat’s Liberty and Justice event, which he was set to speak at months before the vetting process began for him being a possible VP pick. He will deliver remarks in Iowa at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The Georgia Bulldogs have been reeling in commitments on the trail and players are starting to stack up for the 2025 recruiting class. However, it’s never too early to start getting the next year’s class into shape and the Bulldogs just added a player to their 2026 recruiting class. Defensive back Jontavius Wyman has announced his commitment to Georgia.
Wyman out of Jonesboro High School in the state of Georgia is rated as the 154th-best player in the country, 12th-best defensive back and the 19th-best player in the state of Georgia for the 2026 class, according to 247 sports composite rankings. Wyman received an offer from Georgia earlier this year along with a long list of other power four programs. He now joins quarterback Jared Curtis as the only two commitments in the class.
Curtis committed to Georgia back in March of this year. He is rated as a five-star prospect, the eighth-best player in the country and the top-rated quarterback for the 2026 recruiting class. The Bulldogs still have a long way to go before the 2026 recruiting class is official, but they are off to a strong start with the early additions of Wyman and Curtis.
