Clean Plate: South Florida restaurants with zero violations on their last inspection

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Local 10 News is sending a huge and thank and thumbs up to places that received zero violations on their unannounced routine state inspection.

It’s not easy to do, so Local 10′s Jeff Weinsier paid a few places a visit in the latest Clean Plate.

Our first recipient is YOT Bar & Kitchen located on the New River at 2015 SW 20t h Street in Fort Lauderdale, inside the Safe Harbor Lauderdale Marine Center.

Their recent food safety inspection was perfect.

In fact, they haven’t had a high priority violation in their last three inspections.

The cool, casual spot was once voted Fort Lauderdale’s Best Brunch and Outdoor Dining Spot.

It’s even harder for a perfect score at the restaurant because they are on the water. The secret?

“Really consistency,” said YOT chef Scott Francillon. “Being on everybody, doing things when you don’t want to do them and just keeping everyone on the same page.”

Our next stop was in Deerfield Beach.

Located in the Hillsboro Square at the corner of Federal Highway and Hillsboro Boulevard is a Five Guys.

Manager Sheree Brown has been there for a year and a half, but that location has a well done history.

“The last inspection, zero (violations),” said Brown. “The one before that, zero. The one before that in 2022, zero. The one before that in 2021, zero.”

Brown says she keeps her eyes open, making sure things are always as they should be.

“We have protocols we do every day,” she said. “It’s grand standards and things like that. Every hour, two hours, I walk around.”

“Five Guys should be very happy you work here and we want to say thank you for making the place clean for all of us,” said Weinsier. “Thank you so much.”

If one clean Five Guys isn’t enough, Local 10 News heads to the location at the Shops at Midtown Miami.

Shula and Leneka are the managers.

Their location hasn’t had a high priority violation since 2022.

“It’s extremely hard,” they said. “It takes a lot of patience every day. Teamwork and organization.”

“We want to say thank you,” Weinsier said.

Whatever Five Guys is doing, it’s working.

Florida is hosting the final act of Kevin McCarthy’s revenge tour next Tuesday, as scandal-ridden GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz faces a primary opponent who’s been boosted by millions in outside spending. But Gaetz, armed with a Trump endorsement and his own conservative celebrity status, is the heavy favorite.

Though the latest round of redistricting eliminated Florida’s most competitive congressional districts, a few races could be competitive in November. Democrats are keeping an eye on Republican Reps. Anna Paulina Luna and Maria Elvira Salazar, who represent districts that Trump narrowly won in 2020. Republicans are watching central Florida’s 9th District, held by Democratic Rep. Darren Soto.

The Sunshine State will also gain a new member of the delegation in Florida’s 8th District, where Rep. Bill Posey is retiring.

Gaetz, the ringleader of the Freedom Caucus rebels who ousted former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, has had a target on his back all cycle.
