Will Grier vs. Cooper Rush: Cowboys QB Change Behind Dak Prescott?

This, we are able to promise you, was not the plan as of some months in the past.

The Dallas Cowboys have been going to be largely reliant on Dak Prescott for all issues offense, and no change there. However behind him? There was a perception inside The Star that Cooper Rush had develop into “established” because the No. 1 … and that Will Grier was nearer to the man behind him (No. 4 Ben DiNucci) than he was Rush.

Oh, and Dallas was solely going to maintain two QBs, so …

“I believe Will has taken a giant step,” Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy stated this weekend. “I actually just like the camp he’s had. He’s positively made a transfer this week.”

Grier is coming into his second season with the Cowboys after becoming a member of the workforce in September of 2021. He did not play final season, however the former third-round choose from West Virginia did spend time within the classroom. And that’s beginning to repay, it appears, with a contest brewing between him and Rush.

Rush has his win at Minnesota final yr to his credit score. He is 28, got here to Dallas as a UDFA, and has bounced forwards and backwards as a member of the membership.

Grier is 27, lacks skins on the wall – he began twice in his rookie season of 2019, each losses – and remains to be looking for his NFL means.

However, McCarthy stated of Grier, “You possibly can see the intuition and consciousness. Popping out of faculty I believe that was one thing that jumped out for him. Will has performed quite a lot of quarterback, got here out of the womb enjoying quarterback for his (coach) dad. So now you’re beginning to see that in his consolation in our system …

“He’s simply enjoying quarterback once more.”

Grier and Rush are most likely knotted when it comes to understanding the offense. One does have an amazing bodily edge over the opposite. Which may go win a regular-season sport if Dak Prescott is unavailable? That is the central query, with potential solutions beginning to reveal themselves on Saturday within the preseason debut at Denver, the place Prescott will not play … and the place these guys must play effectively.

Volunteers started off at the MLK Community Center and were assigned to clean up one of eight zones in South Dallas. People mowed grass, renovated homes, and painted a mural.

“It brings community together. A good friend of mine says community and unity are common unity, so we love all of it. We just want to be able to revitalize this place and give the community a sense of pride or ownership and give that back to all,” said Paul Franklin, community outreach director with the Walls Project.

Hundreds of volunteers braved the cold and came together for the large-scale community cleanup. The event brought together people from non-profits, churches, and businesses. The event aims to clean up blight while honoring the life of Martin Luther King Jr.

“This is just another part of how our community celebrates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, to exemplify how important that is and how that connects us all to each other,” said Shawna Nesbitt, vice president of UT Southwestern Medical Center.

UT Southwestern Medical Center had about 160 volunteers who signed up. One of their projects included painting a mail room and bike rack at an apartment complex. Volunteers also picked up trash, cleared weeds, and spoke with those experiencing homelessness.

“I’m going to speak to the people that we see that are possibly unsheltered in tents and inform them of the center here at Fair Park that just recently opened the shelter,” said Jeremy Connally, an owner with the Epiphany Foundation.

The day ends with a block party at the MLK Community Center and a gala at the Renaissance Center.
