Deadly weekend shooting happened at a short-term rental
The shooting at the short-term rental that left a 19-year-old dead and others injured happened in a neighborhood zoned for single families. It’s the kind of neighborhood where the Dallas City Council voted to ban revolving weekend rentals, but the ordinance won’t be enforced until December.
DALLAS – Dallas police are investigating another shooting at a home neighbors say is a short-term rental.
Police say they are still looking for the gunman who shot and killed a 19-year-old and wounded three others at a home on Pompano Beach Drive in southern Dallas Saturday evening.
The homeowner who lives next door spoke with one of the victims through her Ring camera.

Melissa Vergara described the terrifying moment she saw a gunshot victim in front of her home.
“He started screaming, ‘I’ve been shot! Can you please let me in your home?’ I said, ‘I can’t let you in, but I can call for help.’ In that moment, I didn’t know what was going on,” she said.
Vergara and her children were away in Houston for the weekend. So she says she felt helpless as she watched everything unfold in front of her door.
“Once he was lying here, I thought, ‘Oh he really did get shot.’ Then I called 911 and said I’m not home, but someone has been shot, and they are in my driveway,” she recalled. “I had neighbors calling me, ‘There is someone laying on your bench. One in your bushes.’”
Vergara was told the man in her yard survived.
The Dallas Police Department says 19-year-old Jahcoria Green died at the scene.
An 18-year-old and two juveniles were also shot and taken to a hospital.
One person was killed and three others were injured in a shooting in Dallas Saturday night.
Vergara says living next to the short-term rental the past year has been miserable.
“One weekend calm. Another weekend partying. Another weekend you can smell weed,” she said. “My kids were not allowed to come out on certain hours. “There was always chaos. I tried to call Airbnb. They said there was nothing they could do.”
Vergara says the listing for the home has now been taken down.
FOX 4 reached out to the company that owns the home.
A spokesman for Main Street Renewal, the property management company, said in a statement, “We are working closely with law enforcement as they investigate this tragic situation. Given that this is an active investigation, we have no further comment at this time.”
Multiple messages to Airbnb Monday have not yet been returned.
According to the Texas Neighborhood Coalition, this is the tenth shooting involving a short-term rental since the organization began tracking them four years ago.
To provide more clarity about the new city policy regarding short-term rentals, Code Compliance created a web page to answer questions.

BREAKING: Dallas Mavericks To Sign Versatile Forward From New Orleans Pelicans
![BREAKING: Dallas Mavericks To Sign Versatile Forward From New Orleans Pelicans](https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/c_crop,w_3688,h_2074,x_0,y_0/c_fill,w_1440,ar_16:9,f_auto,q_auto,g_auto/images/ImagnImages/mmsport/dallas_basketball/01j1p0qpwmwwczs85034.jpg)
The Dallas Mavericks have made their first move of free agency and it’s not the name some expected. While the Mavs have discussions with Klay Thompson and Derrick Jones Jr., they’ve decided to go ahead and pull the trigger on a 3&D wing.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Mavericks are signing New Orleans Pelicans’ forward Naji Marshall to a 3-year, $27 million deal. It was reported that Marshall could become a target for Dallas if they couldn’t come to agreements with Jones Jr., who remains a free agent. Marshall will fit into part of Dallas’ mid-level exception.

Marshall, a 26-year-old from Xavier, has spent all four years of his career with New Orleans. He averaged 7.1 PPG and 3.6 RPG as part of a deep Pelicans team and shot a career-high 38.7% from 3-point range. He has good size at 6’7″ and 220 pounds and offers defensive versatility.
Depending on the structure of his deal, Dallas will still have around $4 million left in their midlevel exception. It’s not certain if Derrick Jones Jr., who Nico Harrison called their priority 1A and 1B this offseason, would be willing to take a 1+1 deal worth the remaining of the exception to return. They’re also still working out a possible sign-and-trade to acquire Klay Thompson. If that falls through, they could work out a sign-and-trade for Marshall if they needed to.
Welcome to Dallas Naji Marshall. He should have an easier opportunity than ever to get his shot off getting open looks from Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Signings cannot become official until July 6th.

Cowboy Roundup: Starters at risk of losing jobs; Liufau’s early impact

Let’s take a look at some of the Dallas Cowboys news and headlines making the rounds in Cowboys Nation as we wrap up the weekend on the final day of June.
The Dallas Cowboys kick off training camp in late July, and there will be a number of highly-contested battles on the roster.
There has been a lot of talk about the WR3 competition, but there are other players on the roster who could find themselves fighting to keep their starting roles.
InsideTheStar.com looked at three players who could lose their starting jobs in 2024, including a running back, offensive lineman, and defensive back.
Third-round pick Marist Liufau has been generating hype throughout OTAs and minicamp, and as he prepares for his first ever training camp, he is expected to make an early impact.
Not only will Liufau likely find himself in the linebacker rotation in his rookie season, he’ll be expected to contribute on special teams.
DallasCowboys.com identifies his instincts as a factor that makes him NFL ready.
His first step is decisive and impressive, and there isn’t a lot of guesswork in his game. On the reps wherein he does have a misstep, it’s because he hesitated before accelerating toward the play but, once he does, he’s a missile.
He plays to the whistle and takes attempted blocks as disrespect, violently shedding them en route to what is usually a sound tackle. Not many ball carriers can evade him in open space, or when he gets his hands on them. He’ll be looked upon to contribute heavily as a rookie third-round pick, on both defense and special teams in 2024.

The Cowboys hope Liufau will be able to make an early impact like his NFL record-setting cousin, Puka Nacua.
