Austin FC already ranks as one of the most valuable franchises in the MLS — here’s how
According to rankings from Sportico — a sports finance website — Austin FC is one of the most valuable franchises in the MLS. Despite having only participated in three MLS seasons, the team was ranked as the 9th most valuable team, just ahead of David Beckham’s Inter Miami CF.
According to the website, Sportico created the rankings by calculating each team’s revenue. This was done by relying on publicly available information and financial records — and interviews with those knowledgeable of team finances, including eight sports bankers and attorneys who actively work on MLS transactions.
How does the Sportico ranking system work?
Sportico estimates that Austin FC’s value is around $630 million — which is a 10% increase from the season before. While the website does not yet have data from the latest MLS season, it determines value by combining the sum of the current market value of an MLS franchise with the value of team-related businesses and real estate holdings to determine the rankings.
The first major category, MLS franchise valuation, is described by the website as being “derived from metrics by which soccer team transactions typically occur, including aggregating local and national revenues and factoring in a team-specific multiplier.”
This includes the value of each franchise’s 3.4% interest in Soccer United Marketing — the marketing arm of Major League Soccer — which is acquired/dispossessed in tandem with the sale of a team.
The other category is the value of a franchise or franchise owner’s equity in team-related businesses. According to Sportico, “These assets represent a small percentage of MLS total values at this stage; the predominant value in most cases involves training complexes and new stadiums owned by teams, although a government organization often owns the land underneath the home venues.”
How did Austin FC gain enough value to be ranked in the top 10?
Since its first season in the MLS, Austin FC has continued to grow important financial statistics like revenue and value. In 2021 the team’s estimated revenue was $50.5 million, and in 2023 that had grown to approximately $84 million, according to Forbes.
As previously mentioned, Sportico values Austin FC at $630 million, an increase from the $575 million that was estimated the year prior. Some of this financial success and increasing value can be attributed to reliable consumption from fans.
According to the MLS, the jersey of star playmaker Sebastián Driussi ranks as the fourth most purchased jersey in the league. Morever, according to soccer media outlet — GOAL, Austin FC boasts the 11th best attendance record in the MLS, despite many teams having a larger stadium than Austin FC’s Q2.
One area of growth for the club is in its social media presence as its Instagram profile, which contains 206k followers, is on the lower end of the MLS table.

Another body was found in the popular Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas, where other deceased individuals were found recently.
The latest body found joins the growing mystery after at least 6 additional bodies were found throughout the year in the lake in 2024. On Friday, police were called to investigate reports of a dead person in the water near 1st Street Bridge and the 300 block of Cesar Chavez.
The Austin Police Department (APD) said that they do not suspect foul play as the body showed no signs of trauma, but are investigating the incident.
Despite APD attempting to quell community fears, questions and speculation have run rampant. Police have attributed most of the deaths to accidental drowning due to the lake’s proximity to nightclubs and bars.

The most recent body was found on December 1. The victim was recently identified as 73-year-old Thi Lang Nguyen. Austin police said that there is nothing connected to the other deaths this year.

In September, a man was behaving erratically near East Cesar Chavez and Nueces Streets. He then went into the water and did not resurface. He was later pulled out and pronounced dead.

Back in February, a woman’s body was found in the water about 20 feet from the north shore and in April, a fisherman spotted another person floating in the water.

In July, a man was suffering from blunt force trauma on the trail near Rainey Street. The man was pronounced dead a short time later.
In September, a body was found along a trail near the lake off Pleasant Valley Road.

Texas-based noise artist Danny Tantrum performed in Austin, TX at the Coral Snake last night alongside Schizing Out and Terminull. However their onstage antics may have rubbed the venue and some attendees the wrong way. During the performance, Tantrum appears to perch themselves up on a stool and proceed to channel their inner GG Allin.
Attendees and venue staff were shocked to witness the solo noise act defecate on the stage and then immediately consume it. There is also a video of the act on Instagram (below) posted by Tantrum. In the video venue staff can be seen trying to somewhat intervene to stop it but to no avail. Finally calling for the set to be cut short.

This is seemingly not the first time Tantrum has performed this act, a previous video on their Instagram features a similar shocking performance from several months ago.
Following the incident there seems to be a divide and discourse online either condemning or defending the act.
The venue itself re-shared a message directed at all other Austin venues warning them about booking Tantrum and the extreme show.
The venue shut the show down and forced the act and other members of the crowd to clean up the mess with cleaning supplies. Tantrum would ultimately take responsibility and clean the mess up himself and claim there were no bad intentions towards the venue.
