Coroner identifies 27-year-old killed on Hines Street


AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The victim of a shooting on Hines Street has been identified according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office.

On Saturday, Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen confirmed Laquana Lang, 27, was the victim of the Hines Street shooting.

Officials say the homicide occurred Saturday morning in the 500 block of Hines Street.

The victim was declared dead on the scene at 11:06 a.m.

Deputies say a suspect has been detained by investigators.

An autopsy has been scheduled.

The shooting comes amid an outbreak of violent crime that’s claimed more than 170 lives in a little over two years across the CSRA.

The crime outbreak has affected communities large and small, but as the biggest city in the region, Augusta has been hit especially hard.

Authorities have blamed much of the problem on gangs.

Laura H. Felton Obituary 2024 – Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors


Martinez, GA – Entered into rest on Friday, September 6, 2024, Laura Holton Felton, 55, loving wife of Stephen Felton.

Laura was a native of Augusta, GA and a graduate of T.W. Josey High School. She also attended Augusta Technical College. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and volunteered with the Alter Guild. She worked as an administrative assistant for Concrete Coatings of the South. Laura enjoyed hummingbirds, exercising and was an avid UGA fan. She loved her Yorkies Fargo and Romeo. Laura was a genuine, loving wife, mother, grandmother, child of God, and always put others first.

Family members in addition to her husband Stephen, include her sons: Matthew Gullette (Katie) and Jett Felton (Skye); grandchildren: Maddox Gullette, Grayson Gullette and Faith Felton; mother: Mary Holton; sisters: Andrea Williams (Tim) and Lisa Austin (Lee); uncle: Fred F. Marshalk; father-in-law: James Felton (Nancy) and mother-in-law: Katherine Felton Eason. She was preceded in death by her father Jimmy Holton.

The family will receive friends Monday prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. at the church. The funeral service will be held Monday, September 9, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Roger Schwartz officiating. Interment will be private. Pallbearers will be Rob Baker, Jim Felton, Jett Felton, Dylan Williams, George Zumbro and Miles Williams.

GBI arrests 7 people in Washington County drug bust


SANDERSVILLE, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested seven people in Washington County after a four-month multi-agency investigation.

Arrested were:

  • Robert Johnson, 64, of Sandersville, charged with three counts of sale of cocaine and possession of cocaine.
  • Donald Sutton, 47, of Sandersville, charged with two counts of sale of cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
  • Howard Swint, 54, of Sandersville, charged with two counts of sale of cocaine.
  • Anthony Williams, 30, of Sandersville, charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
  • Justin Sutton, 32, of Sandersville, charged with trafficking in cocaine, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony.
  • William Hall, 39, of Sandersville, charged with possession of cocaine.
  • Freddie Flemming, 59, Sandersville, charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute.

Authorities on Aug. 23 initially arrested four people accused of involvement in drug sales in Washington County. Law enforcement also executed search and arrest warrants and arrested three more people on drug and gun charges.

During the investigation, agents seized a rifle, about 50 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 14 grams of suspected powder cocaine and about 28 grams of suspected marijuana.
