AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – We learned more about one of the three fatal crashes in Augusta this week on Friday.

A witness told officials that Joseph Wilson Jr., of Hephzibah, was traveling east on I-520 east near mile marker 9.5 when Wilson abruptly swerved across the left lane in front of him hitting the median wall and rolling multiple times.

When the vehicle stopped just past the Doug Barnard Parkway overpass, the witness said he checked on Wilson, who was unresponsive, officials say.

Deputies say they later found that Wilson suffered from a chronic heart condition which likely caused the collision. The cause of death is pending the results of the autopsy at the GBI Crime Lab, officials say.

The Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen says he responded to Wellstar/MCG hospital about a death from a single-vehicle crash.

Joseph Wilson Jr., of Hephzibah, was transported from the scene to hospital, Bowen says.

He says the crash occurred on eastbound Interstate 520 at mile marker 12.

He was pronounced dead at 6:22 a.m., according to Bowen.

An autopsy has been scheduled.

Just Wednesday, Bowen identified a 31-year-old victim who died after being ejected from a vehicle during a crash on Old Waynesboro Road.

On Tuesday, Bowen identified a 21-year-old as the victim of a crash involving a motorcycle on Barton Chapel Road and Old Barton Chapel Road.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Helms College held its August graduation ceremony Saturday at the Snelling Conference Center on Washington Road.

Graduates from various programs, including culinary arts and health services, were celebrated for their perseverance and achievements.

“For me, it’s the end-all to all, the light at the end of the tunnel to signify accomplishing another goal that I set for myself and the beginning of a great career,” said graduate Jennifer Collins.

Fellow grad Jonathan O’Donell agreed.

“I came out of 20 years in the military and decided to completely change the course and direction of my life, and I came here to Helms and over the last two years, everything’s changed for me,” he said.

He added: “It’s just been the most rewarding experience.”

The event honored the accomplishments of the graduating students and featured a keynote address by community leader Dr. Robert L. Williams, president and CEO of Miracle Making Ministries.

Helms College President James K. Stiff also addressed the graduates, commending their hard work and dedication.

“We are proud of our graduates and excited to see the positive impact they will make in their careers and communities,” Stiff said.

GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A man has been arrested after being accused of giving two minors alcohol and coercing them to produce sexually explicit content in Grovetown, authorities released told us on Friday.

According to the arrest warrant, an affiant stated that the suspect Brian Alexander Randall, 34, did contribute to the delinquency of a minor in Columbia County between the hours of 1:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. on July 27 in the 900 block of Sedgefield Circle in Grovetown.

The warrant goes on to say that Randall knowingly and willfully provided a minor with alcohol.

According to authorities, the affiant stated Randall also coerced two minors to produce a video of themselves engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Randall was arrested on Aug. 8 and charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of children and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to jail records.
