Former Atlanta Falcons LB Signs with Denver Broncos
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — After one season with the Atlanta Falcons, linebacker Andre Smith has found a new home.
Following a successful tryout, Smith signed with the Denver Broncos on Thursday, his agency announced via X.
Smith played in 11 games for the Falcons in 2023 and started the Week 14 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, making eight tackles. He played 72 percent of Atlanta’s defensive snaps in the season finale against the New Orleans Saints, again recording eight stops.
The 27-year-old Smith finished the season with 19 tackles, one forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a pass defended.

Smith, who now has six years of professional experience under his belt, played extensively on special teams in 2023, logging 211 such snaps – 69 percent of Atlanta’s total.
Prior to his stint in Atlanta, Smith, a seventh-round pick in 2018, spent the first two years of his career with the Carolina Panthers before being traded to the Buffalo Bills, with whom he stayed from 2020 through the middle of the 2022 season.
A six-game suspension in 2022 due to violating the league’s performance enhancing drug policy ultimately ended Smith’s time in Buffalo. He joined the Tennessee Titans nearly a month later and made five appearances, collecting six tackles.
The former University of North Carolina standout signed with the Falcons at the start of OTAs and spent the first two months of the season bouncing between the practice squad and active roster before joining the squad full-time on Nov. 7.
Atlanta’s linebacker room consists of Kaden Elliss, Nate Landman, Troy Andersen and fifth-round rookie J.D. Bertrand, among several others, in the aftermath of OTAs and mandatory minicamp.

NBA postpones Houston Rockets v Atlanta Hawks game for winter storm
The game between the Houston Rockets and Atlanta Hawks scheduled for Saturday has been postponed because of a winter storm.
The NBA said the decision was made “to prioritize the safety of the players, fans and staff due to the severe weather and hazardous icy conditions in the Atlanta area”.
The league said a date for a rescheduled game will be announced at a later time. The Rockets’ team flight arrived in Atlanta before the postponement was announced.
A winter storm dumped snow and ice on the Atlanta area Friday and roads were expected to refreeze Saturday night.
Power outage numbers around Atlanta crept up Friday night as falling trees on power lines became a widespread issue. More than 110,000 customers were without electricity, mostly in the Atlanta area.
On Friday, four passengers were injured after a Delta Air Lines jet bound for Minneapolis aborted its takeoff. Delta spokesperson Morgan Durrant said the plane experienced an engine problem.
While the issue happened during the snowstorm that caused widespread cancellations and delays in Atlanta – the world’s busiest airport – officials couldn’t say if the problem was related to the weather.
The 201 passengers, two pilots and five flight attendants aboard evacuated the Boeing 757-300 using inflatable slides and were bused back to a concourse. One of the injured passengers was taken to a hospital, while three were treated at the airport for minor injuries.

4 passengers injured as hundreds evacuate Delta flight by emergency slide in Atlanta
Hundreds of passengers were forced to evacuate a Delta airlines flight by emergency slides in snowy conditions Friday after an aborted takeoff in Atlanta — leading to at least four injuries and one hospitalization, authorities said.
Roughly 200 people hurriedly deplaned Minneapolis-bound flight 2668 on the tarmac at Atlanta International Airport at 9:10 a.m. due to an engine problem, airline officials said.
Footage posted on social media shows frazzled travelers, including children, running with their luggage from a Boeing 757-300 plane in several inches of snow, according to atlantanewsfirst.com.
Four passengers reported minor injuries and one was taken to the hospital, while the others were treated at the scene, the airport said.
Details about the engine problems were not immediately clear.
Delta apologized to passengers for the nerve-wracking experience.
“Delta’s flight crew followed established procedures to suspend the takeoff of flight…after an indication of an engine issue,” Delta said in a statement.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our people and customers, and we apologize to our customers for their experience.”
