Ice, Snow Can Keep Fans Away, But What Does It Mean for Arkansas, Texas A&M?

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – With chilly freezing rains and low temps icing the roads in Northwest Arkansas on Monday and sleet and snow on faucet for Tuesday, the chances of getting the sport towards Texas A&M in Bud Walton is not 100%.

Typically, the rule of thumb is to have the sport if it may be performed no matter followers. If the Razorbacks and Aggies need to play in entrance of an empty constructing, then so be it.

Climate experiences name for vital icing to start at 11 a.m. Tuesday as a mixture of sleet and freezing rain builds for about two and a half hours on high of no matter can have fallen by night time’s finish Monday night.

Then, one other two hours of heavy snow showers are anticipated to fall on high of that with temps maxing out at 25 levels. Something melted by the warmth of automobiles will freeze proper again right into a frozen sheet of glass.

If Texas A&M can safely get within the constructing earlier than all of this occurs, the chances of getting a sport go up considerably. All that’s wanted at that time are not less than two referees who can someway get into Bud Walton.

As for the Aggies getting out of Faculty Station safely, whereas it’s an absolute catastrophe zone within the Dallas space, slightly over two hours to the southeast, the temperatures have hovered simply above freezing, conserving the moisture within the air in liquid kind.

Which means if the regional airport in Northwest Arkansas could make its runways protected, getting the Texas A&M staff to Fayetteville needs to be a given.

So, let’s suppose just one sanctioned NCAA referee makes it to campus. What would occur subsequent?

There’s technically an choice to not play a sport in any respect. The season would go on and nothing would change.

Nevertheless, contemplating tie-breakers and that it is two groups with NCAA Match aspirations, the SEC could be decided to get it achieved.

Probably the most logical date is the Monday following the common season. Except one thing horrible occurs the remainder of the way in which, neither staff needs to be in peril of getting to play on Wednesday night time within the opening spherical of the SEC Match.

Which means each might play, get loads of relaxation earlier than both a Thursday or Friday sport, and have seedings settled in time to make changes on the convention degree.

Probably there shall be a sport Tuesday night time regardless of the nastiness outdoors. There are many choices for individuals who cannot get to the sport to donate their tickets to college students on campus.

Think about it a charitable donation and take pleasure in presumably seeing whether or not a two-person officiating crew manages the sport in another way than three-person crews from the heat and security of your personal dwelling.

In high school, Dean was an all-district outside linebacker after compiling 85 tackles, including 21 for loss as a senior in 2022.

At the time of his commitment, Barry Odom was Arkansas’ defensive coordinator and Mike Scherer, recently hired as Purdue’s defensive coordinator, was the Arkansas linebackers coach.

Purdue lands pledge from Arkansas LB transfer Alex Sanford

Purdue is starting to pick up steam on the transfer portal market as former Arkansas linebacker Alex Sanford announced his commitment to the Boilermakers following an official visit to West Lafayette this weekend.

Sanford becomes Purdue’s second transfer portal pickup of the cycle and second from Arkansas, following quarterback Malachi Singleton, who announced his commitment to the Boilermakers earlier this week.

The redshirt freshman linebacker had committed to Arkansas to play for Barry Odom and Mike Scherer when the two were coaching in Fayetteville. Two years later he now follows the Boilermakers’ new head coach and defensive coordinator to West Lafayette at a position of need.

Purdue had a thin linebacker corps this season, which saw Kydran Jenkins and Yanni Karlaftis depart this off-season. Sanford now joins Hudson Miller, Winston Berglund and Owen Davis as players with experience at the linebacker position for the Boilermakers heading into 2025.

Sanford has had a minimal role on defense during his career, playing just nine snaps, but he has carved out a consistent role on special teams. Sanford had the third most special teams snaps of any Razorback in 2024, and 328 across his two seasons, serving on the kick return, kick coverage, punt return and punt coverage units, holding a 65.2 Pro Football Focus grade in that regard.

Sanford will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Boilermakers.
