Haitian illegal immigrant facing several charges was released at US border last year

A Haitian illegal immigrant now charged with drug and weapons crimes in Massachusetts was released into the United States by officials at the southern border last year, officials said this week – just as Haitian migration has become a top political issue.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Boston division announced that they had taken Gasnoy Saintilme into custody on Aug. 26 at the Worcester District Court. The Haitian national is charged with conspiracy to violate drug laws, drug distribution, drug manufacturing and unlawfully carrying a dangerous weapon.

ICE said Border Patrol encountered Saintilme in February 2023 after entering the U.S. illegally. He was given a notice to appear before an immigration judge and was released on parole, the agency said in a statement.

He was arrested in Worcester on March 7 on conspiracy to violate drug laws, but was released on recognizance, before again being arrested in April on weapons and drugs charges.

After ICE issued a detainer – a request to local authorities that they be alerted to a potential release so they can take a suspected illegal immigrant into custody – the sheriff’s office notified them when he posted bail.

“Gasnoy Saintilme unlawfully entered the United States and has now been charged with conspiracy, weapons charges and attempting to manufacture and distribute poison in our Massachusetts communities,” ICE Enforcement and Removals Operation Boston Field Office Director Todd Lyons said in a statement. “We are beyond pleased that our partners at the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office honored our immigration detainer and transferred custody of Saintilme to ERO officers. The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office remains a valued ally in our fight to prioritize public safety in our Massachusetts neighborhoods. ERO Boston will continue our efforts to arrest and remove egregious noncitizen offenders from New England.”

The announcement of Saintilme’s arrest comes as Haitian migration into the U.S. remains a top political issue. This week, former President Trump brought up alleged issues that the town of Springfield, Ohio, is having with Haitian migrants – where there has been a surge in arrivals in recent years.

Ohio Republican Gov. Mike DeWine also announced he’ll be funneling resources to help ease the influx of the approximately 20,000 Haitian migrants that have arrived in the city of Springfield legally under the Biden-Harris administration.

“As these numbers dramatically pick up, there’s some obligation for the federal government to help local communities who had nothing to do with the decision about people coming in, but now find themselves with a massive number of people,” DeWine said Tuesday.

ICE FINDS, ARRESTS HAITIAN MIGRANT WHO WAS RELEASED ON $500 BOND AFTER BEING CHARGED WITH RAPING CHILD IN MA

In Massachusetts, ICE officials announced last week that a Haitian migrant who entered the U.S. as part of the parole processes for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans (CHNV) was arrested. He is accused of allegedly molesting a 10-year-old boy who lived next door to him.

Akim Marc Desire, 18, was arrested by police last week in Mansfield, Massachusetts, about 45 minutes south of Boston, and is being charged with indecent assault and battery on a child under age 14, law enforcement sources told Fox News.

Last month, ICE announced it had located and arrested a Haitian immigrant brought in on the same program who had been released on a $500 bond despite facing charges of raping a 15-year-old while staying at a migrant hotel in the state.

Dem congressman says Trump should talk about dropping out after debate

Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., suggested former President Donald Trump should consider dropping out of the presidential race following his performance in Tuesday night’s debate.

Moskowitz issued a statement on Wednesday titled, “Trump’s ability to continue campaign,” and it echoed sentiment aimed at President Biden following his clash with Trump earlier this year.

“If we are being honest, last night’s debate performance by former President Donald Trump was disastrous and hard to watch,” Moskowitz said.

“I believe now is the time for the former President to have those difficult conversations about whether or not he should continue serving as the Republican Party’s nominee for President,” he continued. “For now, I want to give him the space to meet with his family and make that decision.”

Polls from the debate show most viewers believe Harris came out on top. A CNN poll of debate watchers had 63% saying Harris won by the end of their 90-minute contest, compared to 37% for Trump.

Nevertheless, Trump’s performance has not set off the widespread shock and concern among Republicans that surged through the Democratic Party following Biden’s debate performance in July. That concern ultimately forced Biden out of the race, endorsing Harris instead.

Contacted regarding Moskowitz’ statement on Wednesday, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung replied, “Moskowitz is a f****** moron,” according to The Hill.

Trump reacted to his performance late Tuesday night on “Hannity,” saying he believes it was his “best debate ever,” though he lashed out at ABC News moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis.

“I thought it was really good. We had three against one, but I anticipated it,” he said.

Fox News host Sean Hannity asked Trump about reports Harris’ campaign wants a second debate in October, and whether he would be open to it. Fox News has extended a formal invitation to both the Trump and Harris campaigns for a second debate next month.

“She wants it because she lost,” Trump responded. “I don’t know. I have to think about it. But if you won the debate, I sort of think maybe I shouldn’t do it. Why should I do another debate? She immediately said we want another debate. That’s… you know what happens when you’re a prizefighter, and you lose? You immediately want a new fight.”

Secret Service to ramp up security on Jan. 6, 2025, to avoid another riot at the Capitol

The U.S. Secret Service (USSS) will ramp up security on Jan. 6, 2025, in an effort to “ensure the safety and security” of the upcoming Electoral College vote count at the Capitol.

The USSS confirmed the security measures in an email to Fox News Digital. The agency released a statement on Wednesday noting that Jan. 6, 2025, has been “designated a National Special Security Event by the Secretary of Homeland Security.”

“This designation allows for significant resources from the federal government, as well as from state and local partners, to be utilized in a comprehensive security plan,” officials said in a statement. “When an event is designated a National Special Security Event, the U.S. Secret Service assumes its mandated role as the lead agency for the design and implementation of the operational security plan.”

Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser had requested the heightened security, the agency said. The 2025 presidential inauguration, which will take place on Jan. 20, had previously been designated a National Special Security Event.

“This marks the first time a National Special Security Event designation has been granted for a Certification of Electoral Votes and follows a request made by the DC Mayor to designate this event a National Special Security Event,” the USSS’s statement read. “Various reports including from the House Select January 6 Committee and the Government Accountability Office also called for the DHS Secretary to consider a National Special Security Event designation for future Certification of Electoral Votes.”

In a statement, Special Agent Eric Ranaghan, who is in charge of USSS’s Dignitary Protective Division, said that the electoral voting session has been designated an event “of the highest national significance.”

“The U.S. Secret Service, in collaboration with our federal, state, and local partners are committed to developing and implementing a comprehensive and integrated security plan to ensure the safety and security of this event and its participants,” he said.

An Executive Steering Committee, which will consist of “senior representatives from federal, state and local law enforcement and public safety partners,” will convene to start the formal planning process.

The request was made in direct response to the 2021 Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, in which thousands of supporters of former President Trump stormed the Capitol to against the Electoral College vote count.

On Tuesday night, Trump was asked by ABC host David Muir if he had any regrets about Jan. 6 during a presidential debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.

“I had nothing to do with that, other than they asked me to make a speech,” the Republican nominee replied.

House GOP majority would block Iran peace deal efforts under a President Harris, top Republican vows

EXCLUSIVE: Republicans would pull out every stop to block a Harris administration from negotiating another Iran deal, according to the House’s No. 3 Republican, Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York.

“We would block that at every turn,” the GOP Conference chairwoman vowed in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital.

“Biden and Kamala Harris have given hundreds of billions of dollars straight to Iran, the greatest sponsor of terror, and the dollars are going to support proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah, which are attacking Israel every single day.”

Two separate agreements last fall that included a prisoner swap allowed Iran to access up to $16 billion of its previously frozen assets.

Middle East watchers have predicted that Vice President Kamala Harris would be much more likely to take to the negotiating table to try to prevent Iran from creating a nuclear weapon than using military deterrence and financial sanctions.

In 2019, Harris said she favored rejoining the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) aimed at limiting Iran’s nuclear programs.

“President Trump’s unilateral withdrawal from an agreement that was verifiably preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon — against the warnings of our closest allies and without any plan for what comes next — was beyond reckless,” she said.

She said she would seek to rejoin the deal “so long as Iran also returned to verifiable compliance.”

Iran has a growing stockpile of uranium enriched to just below weapons-grade, and some fear it could create a nuclear weapon before the end of the year.

Trump recently warned that sanctions should be used “as little as possible” to “continue to have [the U.S. dollar] be the world currency.”

“I use sanctions very powerfully against countries that deserve it, and then I take them off because, look, you’re losing Iran, you’re losing Russia. China is out there trying to get their currency to be the dominant currency.”

In a wide-ranging interview on the House GOP’s national security priorities, Stefanik, a member of the Intelligence and Armed Services committees, said if the GOP keeps control of the House next Congress, it would continue to work to defund the U.N. Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA) and “address these foreign dollars going into universities, put a stop to that.”

President Biden signed an appropriations package in March that banned funding to UNRWA for one year after some of its employees were found to have ties to Hamas.

STEFANIK: HARRIS UNFIT TO BE COMMANDER IN CHIEF

The chairwoman declined to say whether the House would authorize more funding for Ukraine or Taiwan once this year’s foreign aid packages dry up but noted concerns about oversight of U.S. aid in Ukraine.

“I have major concerns about the lack of accountability for the billions of dollars that have gone to Ukraine,” she said. “We are continuing to get more reports from the Pentagon that they can’t account for — to the tune of billions of dollars.

“The only person who can solve that conflict is Trump,” Stefanik added. “If you look at modern-day presidents, [Russian President Vladimir] Putin invaded other countries during every modern president except for President Trump.”

And on the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Stefanik revealed she is not confident the U.S. is equipped to prevent another similar tragedy.

“If you look at the attack against Israel, the Iranians [are] on the march. The same terrorists that are chanting ‘Death to Israel’ are also chanting ‘Death to America,’” she said. “We have individuals on the terrorist watch list who have crossed our open borders. … That is a national security threat.”
