Steelers DT Cam Heyward: I don’t want to play for another coach

With the Steelers’ season ending, the rumors will begin heating up.

It has been speculated for the last few weeks that Mike Tomlin will weigh his options and make a decision on his future with the Steelers this off-season. Tomlin has been the Steelers’ head coach since 2007, and is now the longest tenured head coach in the NFL after Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots parted ways.

Cam Heyward was asked about Tomlin and the possibility of a life without him as the Steelers’ head coach, to which he didn’t mince words.

“I don’t want to play for any other coach,” Heyward said.

Heyward has been with the Steelers since being drafted in 2011. He is the longest tenured member of the team, and has long been a supporter of his head coach.

In an off-season where Bill Belichick, Pete Carroll, and Mike Vrabel have all been fired and/or moved on from their respective head coaching positions, anything is possible to happen in Pittsburgh.

Steelers sign former Wyoming LB

Steelers sign former Wyoming LB

Despite not making the trade everyone has been hoping for, the Steelers still did make a roster move on Wednesday morning, signing linebacker Easton Gibbs per NFL insider Aaron Wilson.

In a corresponding roster move, the Steelers waived/injured linebacker Tyler Murray. Murray had been having a strong camp, but a groin injury Tuesday resulted in a blow to his roster chances.

As for the newest Steeler, Gibbs went undrafted this year out of Wyoming. The 6’2, 227-pound defender recorded 109 total tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, and one interception in 2023.

Gibbs signed with the Seattle Seahawks following the draft, but started camp on the Non-Football Injury list. He passed a physical on July 25 but was later released.

Now, Gibbs joins the Steelers inside linebacker room with a shot at impressing in the preseason. He’ll be hopping on a moving train preparing for the team’s first action of 2024: August 9 against the Texans.

Penguins’ Sidney Crosby Chasing Hall of Famer’s Record

The Pittsburgh Penguins are celebrating their captain Sidney Crosby’s 37th birthday as he prepares for his 20th NHL season. One of the league’s greatest players ever is still one of the best players in the NHL, coming off of his 19th straight season scoring at least a point per game.

Entering his age-37 season, Crosby is poised to again enter rare company with another historic season. The 10th highest scorer in NHL history has a chance to put up the most points in a season by a 37 year old if he plays the way he dd last year.

Joe Sakic currently holds the record for most points recorded in a season by a 37 year old. The Hall of Fame center and long time captain of the Colorado Avalance registered 100 points over 82 games during the 2006-2007 season. He led the Avalanche in scoring that season, as the organization was slowly transitioning into a rebuild. Sound familiar to any other 37 year old superstars?

Rounding out the top five behind him are fellow Hall of Famers Johnny Bucyk, Mario Lemieux, Wayne Gretzky, and Jean Ratelle.

Last season, Crosby was a dynamic offensive player. His playmaking was his usual level of excellent, despite losing his long-time running mate Jake Guentzel midway through the season. He also stepped up his goal scoring, recording his first 40 goal season since the 2016-2017 season. It wasn’t a Rocket Richard winning campaign from Crosby, but he showed that he is still at the top of his game.

With a worrisome group of players behind him, the pressure is on Crosby again to deliver offensively. He’s more than capable of doing so, and it’s putting him in prime position to step into the top five of this list. Doing so would mean Crosby surpassed Hall of Famers Johnny Bucyk, Mario Lemieux, Wayne Gretzky, and Jean Ratelle. Not only that, Sid could surpass Sakic’s record of 100 points and add another accomplishment to his historic career.

Andrew McCutchen Shares Hilarious Reaction to Pirates Delay

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates waited out several thunderstorms during their home matchup against the San Deigo Padres at PNC Park. During the rain, the announcement came more than once that the game would resume and then later be delayed again. Two hours and 40 minutes later, play resumed, but during the break, outfielder Andrew McCutchen shared his own update.

Tweeting from the locker room, McCutchen said he didn’t know what was happening during the delay.

The game would eventually resume after several hours of clearing the warning track and surrounding areas. Despite their playoff push, the Pirates fell to San Diego 6-0 after a disasterous return to play. Giving up four runs in the fifth inning between pitchers Jake Woodford and Kyle Nicolas, Pittsburgh never gained momentum and ended their late night with a loss.

McCutchen finished with one hit on three at bats and a .714 on base percentage.

The teams will return to action for a second matchup with the Pirates hoping to rebound in. Now back to even at 56-56, Pittsburgh needs to begin stacking wins in order to control their playoff fate this season. They’ll have two opportunities to do so against San Deigo.
