Pittsburgh Steelers Reporter Brutally Rips Into Former Buckeye Justin Fields

Former Ohio State Buckeyes star quarterback Justin Fields has been talked about a lot during NFL training camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers this year. Videos have been coming out and going viral of some of his throws and questions have started coming up about whether or not he could actually win the starting job over Russell Wilson.

After being drafted with the No. 11 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Fields was expected to be the franchise quarterback for the Chicago Bears. However, the team did not build well around him and the situation ended quickly.

Looking ahead to the 2024 season, could Fields actually end up beating out Wilson for the starting job at some point?

Mark Madden, a beat writer covering the Steelers, does not think Fields has what it takes to be an NFL quarterback. In a recent quote, he brutally ripped into the 25-year-old signal caller.

“If Fields has to play, all will be revealed. Just like with Pickett. That’s what makes the fictionalized quarterback competition at Steelers camp so laughable: The decision, which has long since been made, is obvious. Fields is potential that hasn’t much been realized and likely won’t be. Wilson is polished, professional and knowledgeable.”

Clearly, Madden is not a big fan of what he has seen from Fields so far during training camp.

During the 2023 NFL season with the Bears, Fields ended up playing in 13 games. He completed 61.4 percent of his pass attempts for 2,562 yards, 16 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Fields also picked up 657 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

A change of scenery was very necessary for Fields. The media in Chicago had completely turned on him. Nothing he did was right and fans were trending towards wanting him gone.

Landing with Pittsburgh was the perfect fit as well. If anyone can help him reach his full potential, it would be Mike Tomlin.

Expect to continue hearing about Fields in the coming weeks. He has looked good in training camp, but there are still many who don’t believe he can turn his career around.

Hopefully, he’ll be able to prove them wrong. Ohio State fans will always root for Fields to get his career figured out and live up to the potential that he showed with the Buckeyes.

Here’s the latest on the Pittsburgh Steelers, Brandon Aiyuk trade saga

Welcome to the never-ending Brandon Aiyuk and Pittsburgh Steelers saga. The Steelers and San Francisco 49ers have remained in deep negotiations for Aiyuk for the better part of three days, and yet nothing has been resolved on either end.

So, the real question remains: what is the holdup between the Steelers and the 49ers? Aiyuk does not want to play for the Cleveland Browns or New England Patriots, and the contract side of things with Aiyuk is essentially done with the Steelers.

Steelers sign former Wyoming LB

Despite not making the trade everyone has been hoping for, the Steelers still did make a roster move on Wednesday morning, signing linebacker Easton Gibbs per NFL insider Aaron Wilson.

In a corresponding roster move, the Steelers waived/injured linebacker Tyler Murray. Murray had been having a strong camp, but a groin injury Tuesday resulted in a blow to his roster chances.

As for the newest Steeler, Gibbs went undrafted this year out of Wyoming. The 6’2, 227-pound defender recorded 109 total tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, and one interception in 2023.

Gibbs signed with the Seattle Seahawks following the draft, but started camp on the Non-Football Injury list. He passed a physical on July 25 but was later released.

Now, Gibbs joins the Steelers inside linebacker room with a shot at impressing in the preseason. He’ll be hopping on a moving train preparing for the team’s first action of 2024: August 9 against the Texans.

Penguins’ Sidney Crosby Chasing Hall of Famer’s Record

The Pittsburgh Penguins are celebrating their captain Sidney Crosby’s 37th birthday as he prepares for his 20th NHL season. One of the league’s greatest players ever is still one of the best players in the NHL, coming off of his 19th straight season scoring at least a point per game.

Entering his age-37 season, Crosby is poised to again enter rare company with another historic season. The 10th highest scorer in NHL history has a chance to put up the most points in a season by a 37 year old if he plays the way he dd last year.

Joe Sakic currently holds the record for most points recorded in a season by a 37 year old. The Hall of Fame center and long time captain of the Colorado Avalance registered 100 points over 82 games during the 2006-2007 season. He led the Avalanche in scoring that season, as the organization was slowly transitioning into a rebuild. Sound familiar to any other 37 year old superstars?

Rounding out the top five behind him are fellow Hall of Famers Johnny Bucyk, Mario Lemieux, Wayne Gretzky, and Jean Ratelle.

Last season, Crosby was a dynamic offensive player. His playmaking was his usual level of excellent, despite losing his long-time running mate Jake Guentzel midway through the season. He also stepped up his goal scoring, recording his first 40 goal season since the 2016-2017 season. It wasn’t a Rocket Richard winning campaign from Crosby, but he showed that he is still at the top of his game.

With a worrisome group of players behind him, the pressure is on Crosby again to deliver offensively. He’s more than capable of doing so, and it’s putting him in prime position to step into the top five of this list. Doing so would mean Crosby surpassed Hall of Famers Johnny Bucyk, Mario Lemieux, Wayne Gretzky, and Jean Ratelle. Not only that, Sid could surpass Sakic’s record of 100 points and add another accomplishment to his historic career.
