PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A new food pharmacy is now up and running in the Allegheny Health Network.

The Healthy Food Center at Allegheny Valley Hospital is the sixth one to open.

Patients who live in food deserts or lack access to healthy food can receive nutritious and fresh food items at no cost. They can also learn about disease-specific diets.

Organizers say food is medicine, and part of providing complete healthcare to patients is making sure they have the right foods to eat.

“There’s no question the need is high in regards to healthy foods. Food insecurity is becoming more and more of a phenomenon. The pandemic, inflation, all of that has hit households hard,” said Dr. Mark Rubino, president of Allegheny Valley Hospital.

The first Healthy Food Center in our area opened in 2018 at West Penn Hospital and has since expanded to Allegheny General Hospital, Forbes Hospital, Jefferson Hospital, and now, Allegheny Valley Hospital.

Livvy Dunne celebrates Paul Skenes’ MLB All-Star nod in most Pittsburgh way possible

Livvy Dunne has been frequenting Pittsburgh to watch Pirates ace Paul Skenes light it up on the mound at PNC Park.

The LSU gymnast and social media stunner has been dating Skenes since their LSU days, and she’s now is embracing life by the Three Rivers while she roots on her man.

This weekend, Skenes was named to the MLB All-Star Game roster, and Dunne was ecstatic.

To celebrate Skenes’ big accoplishment in his rookie campaign, Dunne called on a local staple. She brought out the balloons, some Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label champagne, and pizza from none other than Primanti Brothers.

Sure, Primanti Bros. is more nown for its sandwiches that are topped with coleslaw and french fries, but sometimes you’re just in the pizza mood.

And we have to give Livvy some grace, because she’s still learning the ropes in the Steel City.

The mustached right-hander has been lighting it up during his rookie season in Pittsburgh. He has struck out seven or more batters in nine of his 10 starts, which is the most ever by a pitcher over

Skenes has also been throwing the heat, with 74 pitches of at least 100 mph, more than double anyone else in MLB.

The 2024 MLB All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday, July 16, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Expect to see Livvy there in full support of her favorite Buc

Steelers Star Named Top Trade Option

Steelers Star Named Top Trade Option

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are working out contract negotiations with defensive tackle Cam Heyward, but despite the captain showing up for Organized Team Activities and minicamp, there’s not too much optimism a deal gets done before the season.

If an extension doesn’t get done, the Steelers will have a decision to make on whether or not they’ll let Heyward walk next offseason or move on from him early. If they chose to make a trade – which doesn’t feel likely right now – they’ll probably have takers.

Pro Football Network believes it’ll be their easiest move to make, naming Heyward their top trade option heading into training camp.

“There is no denying that Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward will be remembered as an all-time great in franchise history. Yet the Steelers could opt to trade him as he heads into the final season of his final contract. Heyward had just two sacks last season, and Pittsburgh would save $16 million by trading him in 2024,” PFN writes.

Heyward is expected to be back to his normal self in 2024. 2023 was lost due to injury, and looking at his stats from a year where he underwent surgery isn’t an actual expectation on what’s to come.

Chances are the Steelers don’t move on from Heyward this offseason. The two sides will continue to negotiate, but even if a deal doesn’t get done, the Steelers will need their captain for a 2024 Super Bowl run. On Heyward’s side, unless he’s going to head to another contender, winning a Super Bowl is likely at the top of his list – and winning one in Pittsburgh would mean more than with another team.

If a split is coming, it’s coming in 2025. For now, no movement is expected to happen.
