Marcus Smart Gives Honest Reaction to Boston Celtics Winning Championship

Marcus Smart may no longer be a member of the Boston Celtics, but he’ll forever be associated with the Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown squad. Even a season after being traded from the team, he’s still getting questions about the Celtics on media day.

During media day with the Memphis Grizzlies, Smart was asked about his reaction to the Celtics winning a championship without him, to which he revealed a very honest answer.

“I was probably the most excited person for them,” Smart said. “We went through a lot of battles, blood, sweat and tears … I wish I would have been a part of it because I worked so hard, but at the end of the day, they deserved it.”

For nine seasons, Marcus Smart was a member of the Boston Celtics. He was with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown for multiple conference finals runs, and even an NBA Finals run. It almost seems to be a cruel irony that the team won the NBA Championship within the season that Smart was traded to the Grizzlies.

While Marcus Smart will forever be associated with the Boston Celtics, it’s time for him to make a new legacy with the Memphis Grizzlies. As long as Ja Morant is healthy and available this season, Smart and the Grizzlies have a legitimate chance to make some noise.

Report: Bruins Real Offer to Jeremy Swayman Revealed

While the Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman attempt to finalize a new contract, the drama is only growing. The Bruins’ executives held a press conference that only worsened the situation, casting further doubt on when the deal will come to fruition.

One of the sticking points of the negotiations and the reason for Swayman’s agent to issue a response to the Bruins’ press conference was the disagreement about money and salary. Team president Cam Neely insinuated that the team offered a contract worth $64 million. But according to Swayman’s agent, that number is not quite accurate.

NHL and Daily Faceoff insider Frank Seravalli recently joined Morning Cuppa Hockey to discuss the fiasco between the Bruins and Swayman. When discussing the state of their contract negotiations, Seravalli seemed to have the same understanding of the situation that Swayman’s agent does. Speaking to hosts Jonny Lazarus and Colby Cohen, the latest details he heard were that the team offered a deal below the $64 million mark Neely suggested.

“My understanding is that the Bruins have offered eight years x $7.8 million,” Seravalli said. “Which is $62.4 [million]. So, maybe Cam Neely had a bit of fun with numbers…$1.6 million is where they were off.”

Neely’s bit of fun with numbers is costing the Bruins in their negotiations. The team has roughly $8.5 million in available salary cap space, according to PuckPedia, and Swayman seems intent on acquiring as much of that space as possible with his new deal. The negotiations are currently at a standstill, but there is still a belief around the league that the Bruins will sign Swayman to a long-term deal.

The other possibility is that this could continue to drag out. The Bruins and Swayman have until December 1st to come to an agreement. If they don’t, Swayman will be ineligible to play for the remainder of the season. If the two sides aren’t able to hammer out a contract over the coming weeks, the speculation regarding that deadline and potential trades will only rise.

Concern growing for internet sensation ‘Nibi' the beaver as MassWildlife plans to release her

Concern growing for internet sensation ‘Nibi' the beaver as MassWildlife plans to release her

With millions of views around the world, a spread in National Geographic for Kids, and several televised appearances, Nibi the Beaver has made a splash for audiences across the globe. But now the 2-year-old beaver faces an uncertain future starting Tuesday morning.

Jane Newhouse says she rescued the one-pound newborn beaver on the side of the road in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, back in 2022. For the past two years, the beaver has lived at the Newhouse Wildlife Rescue in Chelmsford. She was the only orphaned beaver in New England for the five months after Nibi was rescued, which made it difficult for her to bond with other rodents.

The trouble for Newhouse started when she tried to apply with MassWildlife for Nibi to become an educational beaver. She was informed that not only was Nibi’s request revoked but that the 2-year-old beaver would need to be released back into the wild — a problem for Nibi who hasn’t got along with other Beavers in the past.

“I just heard back last week with the denial of my request and then an email saying that they’d be contacting me to release her soon,” said Newhouse. “[Nibi] has no idea she’s going to be picked up tomorrow and dropped off somewhere she’s never been.”

When Nibi, a rescued beaver, got her room at a Mass. wildlife rescue to herself, she immediately started building a dam, perhaps to keep her roommate from being able to get back in.

MassWildlife tells NBC10 Boston that Newhouse was informed back in June that Nibi would need to be released saying, “Wild animals like this one belong in the wild, and releasing them back into their natural habitat enables them to lead fulfilling lives and contribute to the ecosystem.”

“It has been very frustrating to not be considered at all, to not feel like anything I have to say about a beaver I’ve known for two years matters at all,” said Newhouse.

Newhouse says she doesn’t want to keep Nibi in captivity but she’s worried releasing her so close to winter might be detrimental for the beaver’s health.

“I don’t like the idea of her being released now. It’s certainly she has less of a chance of surviving now than she would if she was released in April or May of next year,” said Newhouse.

And while thousands of concerned citizens are making their voices heard with a petition on Change.org, Newhouse is exhausting all her options to make sure Nibi stays safe.

MassWildlife says they plan to pick up Nibi at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and they plan to release the beaver into a remote area with abundant suitable habitat.

“I made a promise to this animal, a promise I don’t plan on going back on and if it means that this is the end of me and my permit gets pulled that’s fine,” said Newhouse.
