Minnesota Lynx to Retire Maya Moore’s Jersey at Saturday’s Game vs. Indiana Fever
One of the greatest players in WNBA history will be honored by the Minnesota Lynx during Saturday’s game against the Indiana Fever. The franchise will retire Moore’s No. 23 jersey at Target Center.
The plan to retire Moore’s jersey has been in the works for many months, with the team announcing the decision and date back in March. She will become the fifth player in Lynx history to have her number retired, along with Lindsay Whalen, Rebekkah Brunson, Seimone Augustus and Sylvia Fowles.
“We look forward to welcoming Maya back to Target Center to commemorate her prolific career,” Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeve said in March. “To stand with Maya as her number 23 jersey is hoisted into the Target Center rafters will be incredibly exciting.”
Moore was the No. 1 pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft by the Lynx. She then enjoyed an eight-year career in the league, spending it all in Minnesota. She was named the 2011 WNBA Rookie of the Year and earned league MVP honors in 2014. Moore was a six-time All-Star selection.
Moore helped lead Minnesota to a dominant run in the 2010s, winning four league titles in seven years (2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017). She was named WNBA Finals MVP in 2013.
“I am so excited to be able to come back to connect, celebrate and remember so many of the special memories I was able to be a part of with this Lynx family,” said Moore. “I’m still so amazed at what we were able to accomplish as a group and even more amazed at how well we did it together!”
At the end of her professional career, Moore had appeared in 271 games, scored 4,984 points, grabbed 1,589 rebounds, dished out 896 steals and recorded 449 steals. She also totaled 31 double-doubles.
Moore also played in 56 career playoff games with the Lynx.
Prior to her time in the WNBA, Moore enjoyed a sensational college career while at UConn (2007-11). She was a four-time All-American selection and was twice named the Naismith National Player of the Year. Moore won two national championships with the Huskies under coach Geno Auriemma.
Saturday’s game will be unique as the Lynx celebrate one of the greatest players in WNBA history. It will also feature one of the game’s rising stars, with the Fever bringing rookie guard Caitlin Clark into town.
Indiana and Minnesota are scheduled for an 8 p.m. ET tipoff with the game airing on NBA TV.

What’s happening?
The Minnesota DNR’s live fish exhibit is one of the most popular attractions at the fair, featuring native fish from Minnesota. The exhibit began in 1905.
This year’s fish pond is expected to feature about three dozen species of fish that can be found in Minnesota. Among them are native rough fish, including redhorse, buffalo, gar and bowfin.
EAGAN, Minn. — He does turn 34 years old next month, but the Vikings’ signing of Stephon Gilmore might be their biggest defensive free agent inking in recent memory.
Gilmore arrived fresh for his first practice in purple on Monday.
“I feel pretty good right now,” he said. “Just trying to keep getting better every day. That’s the main thing.”
Gilmore spent the 2023 season playing for the Dallas Cowboys, recording a career-high 68 tackles. He has been weighing his options. Gilmore had multiple teams apply for his services during this preseason. The Vikings’ bid was most appealing.
“I know it was competitive,” said Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell. “A lot of teams may be checking in on him and figuring out if they could potentially add him to their team. We wanted to make sure he knew what this opportunity would be. Not only on the field, but I think he’s got an unbelievable opportunity to impact our team.”
Gilmore says he picked the Vikings because of how they treat their players.
“From the training room to the weight room. All of that is top-notch. So that’s one of the reasons I picked here,” he said.
Gilmore reunites with defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who he worked with in New England in 2019 when Gilmore earned the Defensive Player of the Year award.
“Offenses are really scared to go against his defense,” said Gilmore. “So I know his disguise is pretty good. Always had a good defense no matter where he went. I’m just trying to be part of that.”
It’s unlikely Gilmore will play in the final preseason game, but he’s been around — and one of the best around for over a decade. The Vikings hope a Hall of Fame career isn’t over yet.
“Anytime I step between those lines I try to go hard,” said Gilmore. “Just to show people I still got it. Just keep proving it. Every year you gotta put the previous year behind you and prove it every year.”

Small grain and alfalfa harvests advance in Minnesota
The harvest of small grains and alfalfa progressed in Minnesota last week.
USDA’s latest weekly crop update says 56 percent of oats, 31 percent of spring wheat, and 30 percent of barley is harvested.
The second cutting of alfalfa is 91 percent complete, compared to the five-year average of 95 percent.
Corn is six percent dented with 61 percent of the acreage rated in good to excellent condition.
Corn for silage harvest is four percent done.
Soybeans setting pods are 78 percent, with 64 percent called good to excellent.
And the sugarbeet harvest is just underway with 80 percent of the crop rated good to excellent.
