Minnesota’s first-ever Soul Festival is happening next Saturday and celebrates Minnesota soul in all its forms with music, dance, art and more.

On Saturday morning, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS anchor Leah McClean sat down with Alfred Babington-Johnson, the Founder and CEO of Stairstep Foundation—the organization that’s presenting the festival—to talk about the event.

The event will be at US Bank Stadium on Saturday, May 25 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and admission is free.

A look back at the 2024 Minnesota State Fair

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. — It will be more expensive to attend the Minnesota State Fair this summer, officials announced on Sunday.

The state fair’s governing body, the Minnesota State Agricultural Society board, approved more than $20 million in projects aimed at improving the fairgrounds. As a result, admission tickets will cost an additional $2. On-site parking will also increase to $25. Sponsored park-and-ride service and on-site bike parking will still be free.

Pre-fair discount tickets will continue to be available for sale at the 2024 price of $15 through Sunday, Jan. 26. Starting Jan. 27, pre-fair discount tickets will cost $17 through Aug. 20. Regular fair-time admission at the gate will be $20 for adults, $18 for seniors over 65 and kids ages 5-12. Children 4 and under can get into the fair for free.

The 2025 budget contains nearly $14 million for the first phase of renovation work on the Lee and Rose Warner Coliseum — the first significant update for the building in its almost 75-year history.

Fair officials say upgrades include replacing the roof, which is leaking, modernizing mechanical and electrical systems, installing new seats and railings, expanding the restrooms, renovating entryways and improving lighting, ventilation and accessibility.

Another $6.2 million is being invested in other projects such as replacing and repairing sidewalks and street pavement, improving lighting, installing and replacing water bottle stations and drinking fountains and more.

The last time the Minnesota State Fair increased ticket and parking prices was in 2023, when admission rose by $1 and parking increased by $3.

The Minnesota State Fair runs from Aug. 21 through Labor Day.

NBA-leading Cavaliers seize control in the 2nd half and beat Timberwolves 124-117

Donovan Mitchell scored 36 points, Darius Garland added 29 and the NBA-leading Cleveland Cavaliers took control in the second half and beat the Minnesota Timberwolves for a 124-117 on Saturday night.

With the teams tied at halftime, Cleveland (35-6) outscored Minnesota by 10 in the third quarter and opened the fourth with a 10-0 run to seize control.

Anthony Edwards scored 28 points and Julius Randle finished with 20 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists for Minnesota.

Cleveland was without forward Evan Mobley, who sat with right calf soreness, and Isaac Okoro, sidelined with a right AC joint sprain. Both played in Thursday’s loss to Oklahoma City.

Minnesota was also missing a key player as guard Donte DiVincenzo sat for the second straight game with a left great toe sprain.

Edwards became the third-youngest player in NBA history to score 8,000 points. Only LeBron James and Kevin Durant reached 8,000 points at a younger age than Edwards.

Cavaliers: Cleveland responded well after its biggest loss of the year, a 20-point rout by the Thunder on Thursday. The Cavs’ win prevented what would have been just their second two-game losing streak of the season.

Timberwolves: Minnesota seemed to run out of gas after halftime on the second night of a back-to-back after beating the Knicks on Friday in New York. The Wolves are 2-4 this season in the second game of back-to-backs.

Key moment

Ty Jerome scored six straight points to end the third quarter, including a three-point play with 4.1 seconds remaining in the quarter, to give Cavaliers a 10-point lead. Minnesota couldn’t recover from that double-digit deficit as the momentum swung in Cleveland’s direction.
