Heat Advisory and Warning for central Indiana
INDIANAPOLIS (WRTV) — The National Weather Service out of Indianapolis has issued a Heat Advisory for all of Central Indiana and a High Heat Warning for parts of northern Indiana. The Advisory and Warning will go into effect at 12 PM on Monday and will run through 8 PM Thursday.

A Heat Advisory means that temperatures in the 90s with dew points in the 70s, will lead to Heat Index values reaching 106. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.
Stay cool:
Drink plenty of fluids, check up on relatives and neighbors, and stay in an air-conditioned room when possible. If outside for extended periods of time, make sure to take frequent breaks in the shade as much as you can.

The FBI has added an Indiana man to the agency’s most wanted list, increasing the reward for information leading to his capture from $5,000 to $1 million.
Gregory Henderson Jr., 46, was the ringleader of a neighborhood Indianapolis gang that trafficked drugs from abroad and organized dogfights, according to Timothy O’Malley, Special Agent in Charge for the FBI’s Indianapolis Field Office. He is the first Indiana resident named among the Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitives in decades.
“Drug trafficking is a scourge,” O’Malley said. “When you distribute kilo quantities of narcotics in the community, it has a trickle-down effect.”
Henderson was one of 31 people indicted in August 2023 in connection with local criminal organization, but he’s one of only two defendants who hasn’t been apprehended. Authorities believe he’s the only one of those two who remains in the U.S.
On Aug. 31, 2023, Henderson absconded as federal agents closed in on his organization. He’s been on the run since. O’Malley could not comment specifically on how Henderson managed to evade arrest.
Henderson faces charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute controlled substances; conspiracy to launder monetary instruments and conspiracy to engage in an animal fighting venture.
Henderson has “direct ties” to the Sinaloa Cartel, according to O’Malley. His group was also affiliated with the “Gangster Disciples,” an Indianapolis street gang.
The August 2023 indictment includes a photographs of a blood-smeared fighting pit and severely injured dogs. Authorities recovered around 166 surviving dogs across several search warrants.
The FBI believes Henderson is in Indiana, but he has connections to Chicago, Detroit, Dayton, Cincinnati, Louisville, Lexington and St. Louis. He should be considered armed and dangerous, O’Malley warned.
Henderson is a Black man with brown hair and brown eyes. He’s about 6’1″ or 6’2″ and weighs between 160-220 pounds. He has a scar on his chin and a tattoo on his back. He goes by the names Grego, Whitey, Corree Williams and Gregory Darnell Jr.
O’Malley said that Henderson has a history of intimidating people to prevent them from coming forward.
“He is wanted for serious crimes. He has a lot to lose…so he’s very motivated to remain out of custody,” O’Malley said.
Henderson is the 542nd person added to the list since its inception in 1950. He takes a vacant slot left by KaShawn Nicola Roper, a homicide suspect who was named to the most wanted list only one day before she was apprehended on April 15, 2026.
“Anyone with information should know that it is never too late to come forward,” said Tom Wheeler, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana.
Anybody with information about Henderson’s whereabouts is asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI. Tipsters can also reach out to their nearest field office or American consulate, and those who prefer to remain anonymous can submit tips online.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A City-County Council proposal to ban new applications for data center developments in Indianapolis and the rest of Marion County until 2028 was put on hold Monday night.
An amendment was added to clarify the definition of a data center and what types of facilities would and would not fall under the moratorium.
The proposal will return to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Development Commission for consideration.
If a moratorium is approved, city staff would work with a committee of experts and community members to finalize development standards for data centers. The review could cover building heights, footprints, sound levels, and electronic waste disposal plans.
The next full meeting of the Metropolitan Development Commission is set for 1 p.m. Aug. 19. The council’s next meeting is set for 7 p.m. Sept. 14. Both meetings will be in the City-County Building.
At the state level, Indiana officials have welcomed data centers through aggressive sales tax exemptions and economic development pushes. But at the local level, some communities have strongly pushed back. Anxiety over massive electricity and water demands has led nearly a third of Indiana’s 92 counties to enact temporary moratoriums or outright bans.
Old Farmer’s Almanac Forecasts Midwest Fall
The Old Farmer’s Almanac released its 2026 fall forecast, predicting mixed weather conditions for the Midwest and across the nation.
Parents picking up their kids Monday after the first day of school might want to pack an umbrella – the National Weather Service in Indianapolis predicts severe weather is in the forecast.
Meteorologists with NWS issued a hazardous weather outlook on Aug. 10 for central Indiana, which shows Monday could see isolated showers and thunderstorms starting after 2 p.m.
And when it’s not raining, you can expect humid, muggy conditions, said meteorologists on social media, who urged Indianapolis residents to take precautions.
The heat index on Aug. 10 could climb to 101, followed by stormy weather over the next several days.

Beginning Aug. 11, forecasters warned central Indiana could see multiple rounds of severe storms through at least Wednesday.
Damaging winds and heavy rainfall are the primary threats, advised NWS.
After Aug 12, temperatures are expected to ease into the low to mid 80s, but the chance for showers and thunderstorms remains.
