6/28 Gamethread: Giants vs. Braves
It’s series finale time, and it’s rubber match time, as the San Francisco Giants host the Atlanta Braves.
It’s a battle of Cy Young southpaws. For the Giants, it’s Robbie Ray, who won the award in 2021 in the American League. Ray, a 34-year old two-time All-Star, is making his 17th appearance of the year, and is 6-6 with a 3.70 ERA, a 4.80 FIP, and 80 strikeouts to 42 walks in 87.2 innings. After a rough patch, he’s been exceptional in his last two games, including allowing just an unearned run in eight innings against the Athletics his last time out.
For the Braves, it’s Chris Sale, who won the prestigious pitching award in 2024. Sale, a 37-year old nine-time All-Star, has made 14 starts, and is 8-5 with a 2.14 ERA, a 2.71 FIP, and 99 strikeouts to 21 walks in 84 innings. He allowed two unearned runs in 5.2 innings against the Milwaukee Brewers in his last start.

The Broadway tunnel in San Francisco will be closed Sunday morning into Monday morning, followed by partial lane closures for the next 14 months.
The full closure is coming from Sunday at 7 a.m. to Monday at 5 a.m.
“This is to accommodate the renovation, the rebuilding of the Chinatown Public Health Center, this is one of the most used public health centers in San Francisco’s Public Health System and the health center sits right on top of the Broadway tunnel, so this is a major seismic undertaking that were doing with a lot of construction there,” Rachel Gordon, with the SF Public Works, said.
The 22-hour closure will then be followed by partial lane closures, lasting at least a year.
“Starting Monday, we’re going to have partial lane closures for the next 14 months for the Broadway tunnel, so the Broadway tunnel has two bores, one going east bound, one going west bound, we will only have one bore open at a time for the next 14 months,” Gordon said.
Drivers say they will be looking for alternate routes.
“I just heard a little bit about how it was going to affect my commute and that, because of that, my drive was going to become, it would take longer, because everybody would be taking different routes”, Marina said.
San Francisco Public Works say the eastbound bore going into the Chinatown area will be closed first.
They will be running two-way traffic and then the westbound bore is going to be closed for the next seven months after that, and there will be two-way traffic with reduced lanes.
The lane closures come during a busy time for traffic with schools starting on Monday.

It’s time for a new series and we’ve got two very bad teams pitted against each other: in the orange corner, the San Francisco Giants, and in the purple corner, the Colorado Rockies.
Righty Landen Roupp takes the mound for the Giants for the 24th time this year. The 27-year old is 7-11 on the season, with a 4.22 ERA, a 3.52 FIP, and 123 strikeouts to 57 walks in 123.2 innings. Roupp bounced back from a mini slump in his last start, giving up just one run in 5.1 innings against the Detroit Tigers, though he walked five batters. He has the most losses in the league, currently.
For the Rockies, it’s left-hander Kyle Freeland, who makes his 22nd start. The 33-year old is having a tough year, as he’s 3-10 with a 6.63 ERA, a 4.65 FIP, and 96 strikeouts to 26 walks in 112.2 innings. He lasted just 4.1 innings in his last start, but in the start before that he threw a complete game against the Kansas City Royals, with just one run allowe.
