Chris: [00:00:00] We’re slowly getting studies again from northeast Ohio. Ands with ties to the hurricane ravaged areas of Florida, and it’s one of many tales we’ll be speaking about on as we speak in Ohio, The information podcast. Dialogue from cleveland.com and the plain seller. I’m Chris Quinn. I’m right here with Lisa Garvin, Laura Johnston, and Aila Tassi.

It’s a Thursday. We all the time have great things to speak about on Thursdays. Let’s get going. Reporter, Sabrina Eaton takes a take a look at Dave Joyce’s newest reelection battle in a 12 months when the traces of his district have shifted an excellent bit. Lisa, what did she study? Does Joyce have something to

Lisa: fear about? I’m unsure that he does, uh, as a result of he in all probability dropped, I was in his outdated district, the the seventh and I’m in Cuyahoga County, however after they redrew it, it’s now the 14th district and it’s mainly moved east and south.

So that they removed Summit and Cuyahoga County individuals and uh, they gained components of Portage and [00:01:00] Trumble, bigger parts of that. Additionally, Ash, Tabula and Jin Lake, our counties. Completely inside this new district. Now Joyce has an enormous fundraising benefit. He’s raised almost $2 million for his marketing campaign. His opponent, Democrat Matthew, Kill Boy of a Deerfield Township, has solely raised $52,000 thus far.

Kil Boy is a retired US Navy nurse. He’s brazenly homosexual. Um, after which we talked, , Sabrina talked to them about numerous completely different election points. The most important one on voter’s minds that we all know from a number of polls is inflation. Uh, Mr. Kvo says he desires to shore up the provision chain and make extra merchandise domestically and break up consolidated corporations.

He looks like these are, are, , uh, contributing to inflation. Dave Joyce says that he helps, uh, re, uh, Republican Kevin McCarthy’s dedication to America. Which is sort of a revamped model of Newt Goodrich’s contract with America. So which means [00:02:00] lean and imply authorities not giving cash away, no matter which means, and vitality independence, and vitality as we all know that our fuel costs could go up due to the OPEC Plus resolution yesterday.

Dave Joyce says that President Biden has tried to kill fossil fuels and he desires to maximise manufacturing of cleaner pure fuel. Matt KK says, We actually must diversify our portfolio of non fossil fuels, and that features hydrogen and nuclear vitality. So they beautiful a lot diverged on all subjects. Scholar debt.

Matthew Kik says, I’ve pupil debt myself. He says it might definitely assist low revenue individuals escape the debt cycle, however he’s fearful concerning the burden it will place on center class taxpayers. Um, he says they do want to handle excessive tuition and predatory lending. Now, Joyce says that pupil debt forgiveness is totally mistaken.

He hopes that the Supreme Courtroom overturns. And he calls it Biden’s debt switch plan of as much as 16, 600 [00:03:00] billion. So they beautiful a lot diverged on many of the greatest subjects that I believe are on voters’ minds in November.

Chris: We’re gonna be reporting subsequent week on a brand new ballot that’s popping out that offers with many fascinating subjects, together with pupil debt.

I believe we’d all be shocked. Lisa. Dave Joyce has all the time been thought-about sort of the pleasant man. He doesn’t come throughout as a staunch Donald Trump man. He’s, he’s, I wouldn’t say he’s center of the street. He’s a conservative Republican, however he’s the sort of man individuals. Like as a neighbor. So it’s onerous to dislodge an incumbent who’s a man individuals wouldn’t thoughts having a beer with.

Proper, proper,

Lisa: proper. And he has been sort of frequent sense so far as Ohio Republicans go. You recognize, he’s a part of the Hashish caucus. He’s a former prosecutor who noticed the injury that was executed by individuals who have been simply, , smoking leisure marijuana, had their lives ruined by arrests. So, , Was sort of behind the push for legalizing marijuana.

So, and [00:04:00] really, after I was in his district, I voted for him the final time.

Chris: Yeah, he’s, I I believe it’ll be very onerous. The, and also you’re proper, the, the adjustment of the traces don’t make a lot of a distinction. He’s, I believe, in a fairly sturdy place. It’s an excellent story by Sabrina. It’s on cleveland.com. You’re listening to as we speak in Ohio.

Few nationwide tales have been as onerous to examine because the devastation components of Florida suffered from Hurricane Ian. And the components hardest hit are standard winter houses for fairly just a few individuals, native to northeast Ohio. Laura, we did a narrative this, noticed some dramatic numbers. What did we study?

Yeah.

Laura: Property data in Lee County. Uh, the place Fort Myers sandal and I believe Cape Coral are present about 3000 individuals nonetheless itemizing Ohio as their major handle. There’s Florida is filled with Ohio ones mainly 542,000 Ohio. Natives dwell full time in Florida. From 2019 to [00:05:00] 2020 alone, 24,000 individuals moved from Ohio to Florida.

And while you take a look at Lee County particularly, , among the many hardest hit of the hurricane, there are major addresses. You recognize, 46 with Medina, 44 from Chagrin Falls, 38 from Strongsville and Westlake, and 34. From Hudson. So it’s a standard place to retire from Ohio, to have a second dwelling. And uh, yeah, these individuals, we had some reporters attain out to them and see how they have been doing.

Yeah.

Chris: And the, the individuals we talked to didn’t appear to have suffered the worst devastation. If you take a look at the video, there’s a while lapse movies up now the place it simply exhibits buildings wash, actually washing away within the large, uh, surges, particularly on, on the Fort Myers Seaside. Uh, and we’re nonetheless trying to speak to extra with so many individuals on property down there.

I, I believe that numerous ‘em in all probability don’t know but how unhealthy issues are as a result of communication stays a fairly significant issue.

Laura: Yeah, I. That’s the factor is it occurred in late September. Numerous instances [00:06:00] snowbirds don’t head down until wintertime, like after than or after Thanksgiving, after Christmas. So I believe there’ll be those who don’t go down this, , or solely going to right down to assess the injury and received’t be capable to use their locations.

Chris: And I lived in, in Florida for 9 years, so it’s not a shock to me that numerous Ohio ones lived. Gonna offend everyone who’s listening. They have been all of the unhealthy drivers. You knew for those who have been in a visitors jam, it was an Ohio license plate on the entrance of it, the uh, the issue they’re dealing with. Cuz each time a storm got here by means of, this occurred, there’s an enormous demand for contractors.

You recognize, you, and also you and Layla know what that’s like in regular instances, however may you think about if each home in your neighborhood wanted a contractor? And so that you get a. Fly by night time outfits that don’t do good work, it’s very, very onerous to get high quality individuals to come back in and do the repairs, and also you’re, you’re in hassle as a result of if your private home has been punctured or has holes in it the place the climate is coming in, you’re sort of in an emergency state of affairs.

So [00:07:00] we’re hoping to listen to from extra. Uh, if, you probably have. Any details about property down there belonging to Ohio ones, ship us a notice. We’d like to, to listen to about

Laura: it. Yeah, I, I wished so as to add that Susan Glazer, our journey author, wrote a very heartwarming, effectively coronary heart aching piece really about Sandal Island and her household ties to that and he or she was final, wrote a journey piece in January, and so she says she will’t wait to stroll the seashores of Santa be once more.

Um, however she doesn’t know when that might be. And I really feel like lots of people are in all probability feeling the identical.

Chris: I do know, however you all the time surprise why we construct on these islands. That’s an excellent query. They’re barrier islands. They’re all the time going to get buffeted in some unspecified time in the future. And is it clever to proceed to place homes on them?

Ought to they only be parks that you just go to and then you definitely don’t have all of this, uh, injury? There was an fascinating story I learn out of Florida the place just about any constructing since 2007 with. as a result of they [00:08:00] drastically improved their constructing codes after 2007. And so the homes are way more hurricane proof.

And one of many individuals we talked to within the story talked about his apartment is hurricane proof,

Laura: proper? Prefer it’s like earthquake proof, like is it actually, or fireproof. However there have been numerous substantial and, , enhancements in constructing.

Chris: Yeah. And the buildings which might be nonetheless standing are largely the, uh, the newer ones.

It’s as we speak in. What have we discovered thus far about how Cleveland may be utilizing delay techniques to carry on to revenue tax refunds so long as doable, gathering curiosity on it? Layla, I believe there needs to be a legislation that no matter date this 12 months, individuals get their refunds. That’s the date subsequent 12 months, the place in the event that they owe many cash, they must pay by, overlook April fifteenth.

In the event that they’re holding our cash until November, we shouldn. To provide them something till subsequent November. I like that.

Leila: That’s a, that’s a fantastic coverage. Um, Chris, I, I do know you had acquired one in all these shady letters from Cleveland Central Collections [00:09:00] Company, insisting that you just hadn’t despatched in your W two s and different varieties that wanted to course of.

Us your revenue tax refund. Completely lie . So, so that you had put out a name to readers on subtext, asking to listen to from others and we did hear from others. There have been distant employees who advised us that they have been experiencing the identical factor. They’d gotten letters telling them to supply documentation that that they had already submitted.

And in the event that they didn’t su ship in these data inside 30 days, uh, they’re, their refund may very well be denied is what CCA had advised them. Revenue tax administrator, Kevin Presland. Courtney Al. That’s not frequent, however it’s taking place to individuals. And after her story ran yesterday, uh, Courtney really advised me that she heard from one one who stated that they work for Cleveland colleges and that this individual stated quite a few this, of their colleagues and themself had acquired these letters.

So we’re speaking about metropolis employees who’re receiving these letters as effectively. Um, so CCA couldn’t [00:10:00] quantify for us what number of. Of these letters. That’s not request. I do know, proper. Doubtless story. They, they, um, , they stated they don’t preserve that, that knowledge. Yeah. So we undoubtedly wanna hear from listeners who’ve gotten one in all these letters regardless of having already despatched in all of the documentation.

So if you’re on this boat, please attain out to Courtney Stealy. You may attain her at csy. That’s c a s. T O L F I cleveland.com. Uh, Presland had stated that CCA may be requesting extra information from individuals as a result of, , documentation supplied by employers didn’t embrace all the information that they wanted, and he, yeah.

Yeah,

Chris: they’re making this up. Look, we heard from, , Yeah. You, you wanna say, Effectively, Chris Quinn, you’ll be able to say you despatched your stuff in, however, however you in all probability didn’t. Okay it. I did, nevertheless it doesn’t matter. We’re listening to from accountants whose enterprise it’s to supply these data. Yeah. Proper. And so they’re saying they’re getting the letters they usually’re like, , I’m a cpa.

[00:11:00] I don’t make that mistake as a result of I wouldn’t have a job if I did. That is, look, this can be a shameful efficiency by the Justin Bibb administration. As a substitute of doing the service they’re imagined to do, they’re holding onto the cash so long as they’ll. And we obtained extra tales approaching this. Yeah, we do. I used to be speaking to someone this week.

Who was actually fearful about downtown not coming again. We’re gonna do some tales on this, however, nevertheless it’s not coming again. And I used to be speaking about, , employees don’t wanna come again. They don’t wanna take care of this. Their cash is, it’s October, This cash was collected in 20 20, 20 21, they usually nonetheless don’t have it again.

And lots of of ‘em needed to pay additional taxes to their dwelling municipalities. That they’re now within the hole. That is this. Poor service by Justin bbb. We talked to him about it, what, three weeks in the past? Two weeks in the past. And he stated, Oh, I’ll, I’ll look into that. We’ll get on that. Nothing has occurred thus far and other people nonetheless don’t have their cash.

Proper, Proper. Yeah.

Leila: And in reality, uh, , they [00:12:00] promised us a, uh, a gathering with our editorial board and we’re nonetheless ready for that as effectively.

Chris: They ghost by means of this utterly after that. Completely, completely. We, we really gave ‘em the good thing about a doubt. And at last, I believe after two weeks glided by, it’s like, , let’s write the story.

We’re not gonna anticipate this nonsense. However the, the, the opposite company that does this, Rita has none of those points. . I imply, you take care of Rita. It’s environment friendly, it’s simple. One in all our colleagues lastly obtained his Cleveland refund final week, and he reached out to Rita to say, Okay, I obtained my refund. You advised me again after I filed my return.

Wait till you get your refund after which you’ll be able to pay the distinction. And, and he obtained in contact with him they usually instantly responded. They despatched him the invoice for what his taxes are in his dwelling metropolis, and he paid him. Went like clockwork. The cca run by town, like nearly all the pieces run by metropolis corridor.

Nightmare to take care of. Mm-hmm. . All proper. Please ship the notes. See alfi@cleveland.com. We wish to hear from you. [00:13:00] It’s as we speak in Ohio. We’ve talked about some sports activities books coming to the professional groups in Cleveland, however the locations the place most individuals gamble in northeast Ohio now are additionally stepping into sports activities betting.

Lisa, the place do they

Lisa: stand? Effectively, they’re able to go they usually’re gonna be prepared even earlier than sports activities. Betting turns into authorized on January 1st, so Jack Leisure is chomping on the bit right here. They’re constructing on line casino model lounges at each their downtown Jack On line casino and the Thistle down areas. They’re gonna open by November 20.

Simply in time for the Ohio State, Michigan sport. Despite the fact that, like I stated, sports activities betting is just not authorized until January 1st, however they wanna give individuals a style of what’s to come back, I suppose. So Jack Leisure has two of the 5, , brick and mortar sports activities books and Cuyahoga County, uh, together with the Browns, the Guardians and the Cavaliers, after which mgm.

Subject in Summit County additionally might be constructing out a sports activities ebook there. So, uh, Jack’s leisure’s, Vice President of Design [00:14:00] and building, Geno del p says they received an thrilling Las Vegas like ambiance they usually’re already constructing this out. They’ve a brief wall they usually’re, they’re constructing like loopy.

So when the downtown location, it’s going to be 6,000 sq. ft on the primary flooring close to the Prospect Avenue Curiosity. Entrance, They’ll have 45 like recliners with inbuilt telephone chargers. They’ll have be kiosks. They’ll have 5 be home windows. They’ll have additionally desk video games and slot machines within the space.

There might be seating for 99 individuals within the uh, downtown one, and this may down barely smaller. It’s gonna be 4,200 sq. ft with 76 seats, 28 of them, the theater model recliners, however they received’t have desk video games, solely slots. Um, so yeah, they’re, , they wish to invite individuals in. They’ll’t wager, however not less than they’ll get an excellent take a look at it.

Huge video partitions in each areas. And so they’re now hiring. So for those who’re on the lookout for a job, uh, you’ll be able to ring them.

Chris: That is an [00:15:00] fascinating, uh, nearly David versus Goliath battle as a result of there are 5 – 6 large nationwide sports activities books, fan twin, and people, uh, and we’re really working with a companion. We get some income if individuals undergo our website to, to join this stuff.

And also you simply surprise, will individuals. Use the apps for these main corporations that promote on each soccer sport, or will they go for an expertise such as you’re speaking about this Las Vegas like expertise the place you sit and have a drink and also you’re watching the video games and testing the place your bets are going.

It’s onerous. It’s onerous to inform, however. Some huge cash’s being invested in it. Yeah.

Lisa: And I, however I believe individuals do need that have, , they usually wanna be with different followers. You recognize, there’s nothing like being in a bar when there’s a soccer sport on. You recognize, Individuals get excited. You get excited. However, , a Jack has obtained their palms in, uh, , cellular betting.

They’ve the BET Jack app, which is up and working for coaching functions solely. So that they’re protecting [00:16:00] all their base.

Chris: Yeah, they’re all attempting to register as many individuals now, to allow them to hit ‘em up January 1st and say, Hey, it’s authorized now. Guess, wager, wager. Spend some cash. So we’ll must, we’ll must test this stuff out after they’re up and working to see what sort of enterprise they’re doing.

It’s as we speak in Ohio. How a lot will a Cleveland building firm pay for its negligence and a street paving contract that led to the demise of a employee? Laura, this can be a horrifying accident that occurred right here, and the corporate actually did a. Put the employee into jeopardy.

Laura: That is actually unhappy. It’s a 17 million jury evaluation in favor of his property.

Um, The person’s widow, uh, Shelly Solars filed this wrongful demise lawsuit in opposition to a building firm known as perk, and the case went to trial. So th that, that’s what they determined. When you keep in mind this case, this was 2019, um, subcontractor, David Solars was struck in a lane that ought to have been blocked [00:17:00] off with orange barrels by the challenge building contractor.

That was perk. They have been answerable for the work zone security. 3:00 AM on Cedar Street. He was working as a painter throughout a resurfacing and repaving challenge, and the step that was supposed to guard him was off to the facet on the sidewalk. He died forsaking a spouse and three youngsters, and to make the story much more intriguing and and unhappy, the motorist who struck him, Wiley Bridgeman, was initially named as a co-defendant on this case, however he had simply spent 37 years in jail for a criminal offense he didn’t commit.

After which he was launched in 2014. He has since died.

Chris: The, the concept that you had a painter on the street with out visitors cones to at three within the morning. Yeah, I simply, that, and it’s very darkish. It’s onerous to see, and for those who’re driving by means of a building zone, you sort of depend on these cones to inform you the place the zone is.

Uh, it, it’s simply horrifying. It’s, uh, and the worth they’re gonna pay is, may be very, very [00:18:00] excessive. , Um, it, uh, I imply, you’d hope that this is able to be a, a warning to anyone within the building enterprise to ensure they do the protection components. Yeah, completely. It’s as we speak in Ohio. We have now not talked about Say Sure to schooling in fairly some time, however Hannah Drown and Cameron Fields, together with a take a look at it as a part of the persevering with collection known as Cleveland’s Promise.

Lela, that is after all the, this system that makes positive each child who desires to, who graduates from a Cleveland highschool will get to go to school. The place does it

Leila: stand? Yeah. You recognize, I believe Eric Gordon’s ultimate state of the varsity speech a pair weeks again will all the time be remembered for that response that he gave to that younger pupil who requested about the way forward for Say Sure to schooling as soon as he leaves the district, when he pointed to different Say, Sure faculty districts like Buffalo, the place all these new superintendents had floated the concept of killing that scholarship program, and he concluded by saying, Say Sure remains to be there.

They’re [00:19:00] not . And that basically does get on the essence of how highly effective and vital this program has turn into. Which grants full scholarships to CMSD graduates for all public schools, universities, and PE eligible job coaching packages within the state, and greater than 100 personal establishments nationwide.

However simply as importantly, Say Sure, gives wraparound companies at CMSD colleges from social companies to fundamental wants like deodorant and clothes companies that, that basically start to alleviate the burdens that poverty creates. So children can actually deal with, on making faculty their full-time job from, from the very earliest years within the district.

So, in order that by the point they’re in highschool, These college students are prepared for the subsequent step as a result of , like Gordon says, they’ve had somebody blocking and tackling for all of them these years. So say sure, Cleveland is one in all solely 4 of its type within the nation. Gordon has managed to draw 95 million in funding [00:20:00] for it as of this previous spring.

Greater than 1300 college students have enrolled in faculty or profession coaching packages due to Say, Sure, Cleveland and almost 80 college students have completely accomplished their research and graduated from these packages, and we count on these numbers to rise. On condition that CMS D’S commencement charges have jumped almost 30% since 2011, and we’ve seen a 72% enhance in top quality preschool enrollment since 2013, which actually.

The stage for fulfillment even additional into the long run. So all the pieces is, is basically buzzing alongside properly for this actually unimaginable program.

Chris: Effectively, what and what Gordon stated has some relevance. He identified that in Buffalo, that they had CEOs are available in that wished to do away with Say Sure, which is thoughts boggling. Why would anyone wish to do away with Say Sure, however CEOs usually have egos and in the event that they weren’t the one to convey it in, then it’s not one thing they’ll take credit score for.

They could wish to do away with it. I wonder if we’re at such a juncture. We’ve reported [00:21:00] on the very odd habits by Mayor Justin Bibb with regard to Gordon. He by no means had a dialog about the way forward for schooling in Cleveland, and Gordon lastly learn the writing on the wall and determined he would go away on the finish of the varsity 12 months.

You are concerned that as a result of BIB wasn’t concerned in bringing. Schooling that he’ll be just like the individuals in Buffalo that weren’t dedicated to it, and whoever he factors to CEO received’t be dedicated to it. You hope Gordon is correct. When he tells the scholars, they’re all gone say Sure, he’s nonetheless

Leila: right here. Effectively inform you what, Justin BV had the entrance row seat to that speech.

and I sort of learn Eric Gordon’s remark because the shot throughout the bow. in defensive Say Sure. And um, I believe that that may, that may echo for some time. Um, I imply, it’s extremely highly effective and 95 million or $95 million in personal funding. I imply, that. That’s, [00:22:00] that’s out of this world assist for this.

Laura: I additionally surprise if it may very well be used as an financial growth device to get individuals to maneuver into Cleveland.

As a result of, , you, you go to 4 years of a Cmsd highschool they usually have some unimaginable packages. Like the identical college students stood up and talked about their robotics, , membership that they’ve at these colleges. And then you definitely go to highschool free of charge anyplace within the state of Ohio to a public faculty.

You go to Ohio State, you go to Miami. I imply, it’s sufficient to make you suppose. I may transfer into town. I do know, really it

Leila: had, I had thought, it obtained my wheels turning too after I began fascinated with it. Edgewater

Laura: appears like a beautiful neighborhood. Yeah. ,

Leila: I’ll inform you. I imply, and, and actually, I imply, they, there are, they completely ought to, ought to leverage that.

And, and as a hu they need to make this an enormous marketing campaign to get, get households to coming again into the

Chris: metropolis. Yeah. However there’s weirdness right here. There’s actual bizarre. Between BIB and schooling, there are individuals which might be drastically fearing that he’s going to shift metropolis sources a lot [00:23:00] extra within the constitution colleges. And that’s true.

And he, And the issue is he’s not talking, I imply, all we all know is he by no means had the dialog about schooling with Eric Gordon. And even when he desires, To interchange Eric Gordon. You wanna decide the man’s mind? He’s been working issues for a decade, so I, it it, i I you don’t, you usually wouldn’t suppose something of it.

You’d suppose, why would anyone wish to do away with, say sure to schooling, however due to the weirdness we’re seeing this may, this may be one thing that wants a marketing campaign.

Laura: Do. Do you suppose he planted that query within the viewers? ? No. Certain.

Leila: I doubt, Jack. I’m joking. I extremely do. However, however I, I, The 95 million ought to.

Some time although, I can’t keep in mind precisely what number of years that may stretch, however I, we, we’ve, I imply, he’s obtained it coated for a while.

Chris: Yeah, let’s hope it’s as we speak in Ohio. The previous Curtland police chief acquired some consideration when he was fired as a result of the city accused him of controversial [00:24:00] habits, to say the least.

We now have his formal response in a civil go well with. Lisa, what does he

Lisa: contend? That is fairly the cleaning soap opera over there in Curtland. So, uh, former Curtland Police Chief Lance Nazi was fired final 12 months for a number of allegations, and he filed a go well with this week in opposition to town of Curtland. It’s Mayor Kevin Potter, the legislation director Matthew Lalo, and 6 out of seven council members will get to that somewhat bit later.

They are saying that he, the go well with says that they violated his. And fired him with out simply trigger he desires his job again. He desires to punish metropolis officers and he desires damages on high of that. So let’s get to the story. So, NAI was fired again in August of 2021 after a 3 month investigation into allegations that he was, uh, habitually drunk on the job, that he would disappear on private enterprise for a number of hours whereas he was on obligation.

Additionally accused of verbally. Abusing his staff utilizing vulgar gestures and language and [00:25:00] racist language. So within the go well with, NAI accuses the mayor of being an alcoholic and nai. Throughout this time, he did conform to enter rehab, which he did final April as an inpatient at Lutheran Hospital for six weeks. Throughout his keep, the legislation director Lao tried to persuade him to resign and he refused, after which he obtained fired.

So, There have been six of seven council individuals who voted to fireplace him. The one who didn’t. Kelly Wolf was accused of getting an affair with Chief Nasi . She was the one no vote on his firing, and he or she is just not named within the lawsuit both.

Chris: It, that is simply when you will have small authorities like this, you get into this.

Uh, , Peyton Place, sort of gossipy stuff. It’s fascinating although, if he went into rehab and mainly stated, I’ve a, a, a well being situation. I’m an alcoholic, and was getting remedy that they might hearth him in the midst of that, that, that. [00:26:00] That you’d’ve thought that may be, um, an element that they’d say, Effectively, he’s getting remedy for it.

Let’s see the way it goes. However they didn’t. Proper. When he didn’t stop, they only kicked him out. That

Lisa: is right, sure. And so, and, and like I stated, when he was, , in remedy, they have been attempting to persuade him to resign and he refused. So yeah, that appears somewhat bit like kicking someone whereas they’re down.

Chris: Effectively, and there are employment legal guidelines. Uh, it’ll be fascinating. The opposite factor is you don’t know if he did all the pieces that they stated he did. It seems like this can be a main civil conflict on this city, and they also’re lodging all of the complaints. It’s like all sort of divorce the place the, the allegations are all the time.

Fairly outsized to what the details are. So it’ll be fascinating to look at this one undergo the courts cuz he desires his job again and he desires cash, proper?

This has been in your record for a few week. Let’s meet up with the story that slipped by final week, the unionization of one more Starbucks in Better Cleveland. What number of is it now?

Leila: Oh man, we’re as much as 5 in Kaga County with the addition of the Starbucks in Crocker Park employees there voted. Uh, seven to 2 to unionize. Three shops in Cleveland Unionize, the West sixth Road, Starbucks, and the Warehouse District. The Clifton Boulevard retailer close to Cleveland’s border with Lakewood and the shop in College Circle.

The opposite retailer, um, is uh, in Cleveland Heights on Mayfield Street. Uh, PR supplied that the corporate and union hadn’t filed objections within the 5 days after that vote, the outcomes would’ve been licensed and Starbucks can be required to discount in good religion with that new unit at Crocker Park. Cleveland Guardians President Hints At More Coming Trades After Thomas Deal

The Cleveland Guardians made their first move of the 2024 MLB trade deadline with the acquisition of Washington Nationals outfielder Lane Thomas. It was a move that improved one of the main weaknesses that the team had.

While Thomas is a solid addition, the Guardians could still use some more help if they want to make a run at a championship this season.

Keeping that in mind, Chris Antonetti, the team’s President of Baseball Operations, has spoken out and hinted about more trades coming in the near future.

“We’re definitely not done pursuing things. Whether or not that leads to another deal or more deals, it’s really hard to forecast.”

Antonetti did honestly state that the trade market has been a tough one to navigate this year.

“It was one of the reasons we went out and signed Matt Boyd a couple of weeks ago because we were anticipating this was going to be a challenging market. That’s proven to be the case.”

Acquiring Thomas was a move to improve the offenses potential. Antonetti spoke out about what he expects the veteran outfielder to bring to Cleveland.

“We feel we’ve been able to do that by bringing Lane into the organization. He’s a versatile outfielder, a guy that’s capable of playing center field, right field and can contribute offensively, defensively and on the bases.”

In order to get Thomas, the Guardians had to give up a lot of value, something that Antonetti also spoke out to the press.

“We gave up a lot of value, but that’s what the market necessitated. We gave up three players that we think have a chance to go on and have bright futures and it’s painful to make deals like this, but this is one we felt we had to make.”

All of that being said, it doesn’t sound like Cleveland is done following their move to acquire Thomas.

More trades appear to be likely, assuming the Guardians can find a team that wants to deal as well. It will be interesting to see what Tuesday brings for Cleveland.
