Key Reasons to Be Excited for Michigan State Basketball

Things are not going well for the Michigan State football team right now, but let’s take the focus away from that group and spin things in a more positive light.
The Spartan basketball team is preparing for the 2025-26 season after a run to the Elite Eight. MSU fell just short of a Final Four appearance, and Tom Izzo is itching to get to his ninth.
Izzo lost lots of production from last year’s team, but he has reloaded his roster in the past and remained great. His returning talent should keep the team as a Big Ten contender.
What should Spartan fans be excited about when it comes to this hoops team? Let’s break down three positive elements of this MSU squad.
No dunker is more explosive than Carr.
As his game develops and he becomes a more complete player, the highlight posters and fastbreak slams excite fans across the country. Carr should continue to soar through the sky and terrify rims.
Every backdoor cut, pick and roll, and lob pass should worry opposing defenses, because Carr will be back to jump over them every game.
It’s hard to be worse than MSU was at shooting the three-ball in 2024-25.
The Spartans were near the bottom of the country in three-point percentage last season, which ultimately doomed them against Auburn in that Elite Eight game. But things should improve this season – theoretically.
The addition of Trey Fort, plus the growth from Carr, Jeremy Fears Jr., and Jaxon Kohler, should make this Spartan team more dangerous from beyond the arc. That will lead to higher scoring games, and the MSU defense will do the rest.
MSU fans finally learned not to take Izzo for granted last season.
After a few down seasons, Izzo reminded the country why he is one of the greatest coaches the game of basketball has ever seen. It took some addition by subtraction to get the team rolling again, but the Spartans are back atop the Big Ten as they should be.
Few media outlets have picked MSU to win the conference, but they should still be considered among the best teams in the Big Ten. The Spartans have snuck up on the conference before, and they can do it again.

Browns and the city of Cleveland reach $100 million agreement on stadium
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Mayor Justin M. Bibb and the Haslam Sports Group (HSG) announced a $100 million agreement between the city of Cleveland and the Cleveland Browns on Monday afternoon. Making way for the construction of the Browns’ new domed stadium in Brook Park
The money from HSG will go to the lakefront transformation and prepare the current lake stadium site for redevelopment.
I’m proud to deliver this historic deal to the residents of the City of Cleveland,” said Mayor Bibb. “My administration, with the Haslams’ support, will finally unlock the full potential of our lakefront, benefiting all residents and attracting new investment to the City.”
“Because of Mayor Bibb’s leadership, and this monumental public-private partnership, we are accelerating the transformation of Cleveland’s lakefront while delivering a new world-class stadium and mixed-use development in Brook Park. It’s a win for the city, the region, and the fans,” said HSG Principal Partners Dee and Jimmy Haslam.
19 News reached out to Cuyahoga County for a statement. County Executive Chris Ronayne, a continuing opponent of the move to Brook Park, released the following statement:
“This $100M investment continues our lakefront momentum and economic resurgence,” Mayor Bibb said. This agreement puts the lakefront on the path to transformational development and the Browns on the path to a world-class facility in Brook Park. This is the right solution for the City and the region.”

- City to support the continuing progress and timely completion of transformational Brook Park stadium and mixed-use development.
- Both parties will voluntarily dismiss all lawsuits with prejudice related to Browns Huntington Bank Field move to Brook Park, OH.

Three-star 2026 offensive lineman flips commitment to Ohio State from NC State

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State has its fifth, and perhaps final, commitment along the offensive line for the 2026 class.
Three-star Landry Brede committed to Ohio State after flipping from NC State on Monday. The Buckeyes offered him a scholarship in early September, and he visited shortly thereafter for the game against Ohio. His decision took a few weeks from when Ohio State got involved, but the Buckeyes were able to make the flip happen.
Offensive line coach Tyler Bowen spent his Friday of the bye week watching Brede in person back in September, and now, Brede is a member of Ohio State’s class.
As the fifth member of the class, he’s joining tackles Sam Greer and Aaron Thomas, as well as interior prospects Maxwell Riley and Tucker Smith. Brede is the third member of Northeast Ohio to join the class, joining Greer and Riley.
By mapping out an offensive line, Ohio State’s class could indeed be finished up front.
He profiles as a guard at the college level, and at 6-foot-5, is another massive addition to the class in a literal sense. He is the No. 1,111 overall prospect and No. 48 player in Ohio per the 247Sports composite rankings.
The Buckeyes, after just five commitments in the 2025 class, have now added five a year later in the first year of Bowen.
