NAPLES, Uintah County — Authorities in a pair of eastern Utah cities are investigating two deaths that are believed to be related.

Police and firefighters initially responded to a report of a fire at a Vernal home Sunday. There, they found the body of 42-year-old Mark Ryan Bingham, of Vernal, the Naples Police Department wrote in a news release Monday. The agency didn’t say where the home was or when the fire took place.

A short time later, police responded to a “medical event” at a residential care facility in Naples, located directly southeast of Vernal. There, officers found 72-year-old Patricia Bingham dead from a gunshot wound, Naples police wrote.

Naples police did not disclose the relationship between the two individuals, but they wrote that “a suspect has been identified” in the shooting and they are “certain there is no active threat to the community.”

Police in both cities are still investigating the two cases.
