Inmate deaths reported at Northern Nevada prisons


CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) -The Nevada Department of Corrections this week announced the deaths of inmates in Lovelock and Carson City.

Anthony Quinones, 36, was pronounced dead Dec. 14 at the Lovelock Correctional Center.

Quinones was sent to prison in March 2020 from Washoe County and was serving a sentence of 91 months to 228 months for kidnapping and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm. His next of kin have been notified.

Quinones and another defendant took a man to a Spanish Springs credit union and forced him to withdraw money at gunpoint.

William Redman, 71, died Dec. 24 at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. Redman was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for murder in May 2011 in Clark County,. He was serving time in the Northern Nevada Correctional Center when he died. NDOC reports no next of kin have been found.

Court documents said Redman stabbed and killed his 12-year old daughter in his family’s mobile home in Las Vegas. Redman believed he needed to kill his daughter and himself to stop Armageddon.

NDOC reported no causes of death for either inmate but said autopsies were requested.

Wolf Pack men lose at the buzzer in overtime 82-81 to New Mexico


ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) – Nelly Junior Joseph grabbed a loose ball and knocked down a jumper from just inside the free throw line as time expired in overtime to lift New Mexico to an 82-81 win over Nevada on Friday night.

The Lobos (12-3) moved to 4-0 in the Mountain West Conference with the win in the 1,000 college basketball game played on New Mexico’s home court, The Pit.

Nevada (8-7, 0-4) tied the game with a second left in regulation when Nick Davidson hit two free throws to tie the game at 70-70.

Joseph posted his 50th career double-double for the Lobos, putting up 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Donovan Dent scored 20 points and dished six assists and Mustapha Amzil contributed 14 points.

Kobe Sanders scored 21 points and Davidson scored 18 points with six rebounds, five blocked shots and four assists to lead Nevada. Tre Coleman contributed 12 points and Justin McBride added 11 points off the bench.

New Mexico plays at Wyoming Tuesday. Nevada plays at Fresno State January 11.

LETTER: A state drink for Nevada?


Is Nevada Assemblyman Bert Gurr tone deaf (“This cocktail may become Nevada’s state drink,” Tuesday Review-Journal)? Can he read? There’s hardly a day in Clark County that goes by without drunken drivers killing or injuring other motorists or pedestrians. And he wants to celebrate that by making an alcoholic drink our state “drink”?

Rather than honoring alcohol, it should be treated exactly as is tobacco — stop the advertising of it and make drunkenness socially unacceptable. Those two steps certainly have had a major impact on many smokers and some who have yet to pick up the addiction. It’s way past time for us to put an end to the slaughter on our roadways.

Nevada State Police seeking witnesses in a fatal crash near Searchlight


LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Nevada State Police Highway Patrol are at the scene of a fatal crash just north of Searchlight, Nevada, near mile marker 35.

Highway Patrol initially responded to the crash at around 12:53 a.m. on Jan. 3, 2025.

The crash involved a female driver who was pronounced dead at the scene. Her car was rolled over.

U.S. 95 northbound at mile marker 35 is closed for an undetermined amount of time. U.S. northbound traffic can take State Route 164 to Nipton Road to avoid the closure.

Highway Patrol is asking for any information regarding this crash and about another possible vehicle that may have been involved.
