Wreaths Across America ceremony held at Montana Capitol


HELENA — The annual Wreaths Throughout America ceremony was held on the Capitol Rotunda this Monday. Wreaths Throughout America is a nationwide occasion meant to honor service members and bear in mind those that have died whereas serving the US.

The occasion held on the capitol constructing was organized by Jane Hamman of the Oro Fino Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She’s been operating the occasion for over a decade now. The occasion featured songs and speeches and the putting of the Capitol Rotunda Wreath.

Hamman says the wreath itself symbolizes life everlasting and honors those that have served.

“The wreath itself represents a dwelling evergreen, an countless circle in life that has no starting and no finish,” says Hamman.

This weeklong occasion started on Saturday, December tenth in Maine. From Maine, the 2022 Escort to Arlington heads down the east coast. In line with Wreaths Throughout America’s web site, it’s the nation’s longest veterans’ parade. It culminates on December seventeenth, Nationwide Wreaths Throughout America Day, at Arlington Nationwide Cemetery. Over 3,400 places will take part in wreath-laying ceremonies on the graves of fallen service members.

“…dedicated to remembering our women and men within the army who’ve fought for and supplied the alternatives for freedom for all of us in our nation,” says Hamman.

A wreath putting occasion will happen at Fort Harrison on Nationwide Wreaths Throughout America Day on December 17.

• Billings Skyview 70, Missoula Hellgate 46: The Falcons jumped all over the Knights in the opening quarter, building a 17-3 advantage en route to victory. Tayshaun Williams led the charge with 19 points and Zakai Owens collected 14. Kaelor Jones and Willes Frederick added eight points apiece. Zane Gillhouse tallied nine points to lead Hellgate. Parker Link and Evan Pyron scored eight points apiece.

• Helena 72, Bozeman 53: The Bengals opened their season with a convincing win, led by Tevin Wetzel’s 23 points. Madden Spaulding and Dylan Mosness knocked down 12 points apiece, and Mase Spaulding and Jaxan Lieberg tallied nine apiece. Smith Schuyler led the Hawks with 17 points. Mason Schuyler scored 13 points and Cristian Malloy netted 12.

Carter Dahlke and Grant Vigen led a balanced offense with 11 points apiece. Sam Kilwein netted seven and Kade Fasting six. Brenton Belzer led all scorers with 17 points for the Bruins. Conor Toivonen and Landon Levang tallied eight points apiece.

Class A

• Polson 61, Lewistown 43: The Pirates won their second straight, going on a 16-6 run in the final quarter to put the game away. Kason Brown scored 23 points to carry the Golden Eagles in defeat, with Dash Ruff contributing eight points and Madden Norslien seven. No stats were reported for Polson.

• Havre 68, East Helena 54: Matthew Huse and Brayden Ereaux were the two-headed monster for the Blue Ponies, draining 16 points apiece, and Trey Gary knocked down 13 points. DeonDray Ellis led all scorers with 22 points for the Vigilantes. Talen Thatcher added seven points and Slade Olson chipped in with six.

• Miles City 82, Livingston 41: Kordt Smith and Rylin Gentry paced six players in double figures as the Cowboys walloped the Rangers. Smith and Gentry scored 13 points, Alex Hurr and Cooper Nansel hit for 11 apiece, and Warren Venable and Jace Erienbusch rang up 10 points each, with Brudger Muri contributing nine.

• Hamilton 54, Browning 51: Canaan Magness and Tyler Jette did the heavy lifting for the Broncs with 22 and 20 points, and Landon Wetzel supplied six points.

• Libby 64, Corvallis 31: Ryan Beagle dropped 16 points, Aidan Rose netted 14 and Tristan Anderson 11 to lead the Loggers past the Blue Devils for their first win of the season. James Woody supplied six points. No stats were reported for Corvallis.

• Dillon 62, Missoula Loyola 60: The Beavers earned their second narrow win in as many days, outscoring the Class B Rams 20-12 during crunch time in the fourth. Kyler Engellant dropped 23 points and Cohen Hartman wasn’t far behind with 20. Gabe Lemelin chipped in with eight points. Rey Johnston did the heavy lifting for Loyola with 20 points, Ethan Stack rang up 15 and Jamo Kendrick added nine.

Class B

• Malta 76, Thompson Falls 62: Bohdi Brenden racked up 29 points, including five treys, and the Mustangs went on a 21-7 run after halftime to lead 60-37 going into the fourth quarter. Treyton Wilke hit for 12 points, Regan Stuart and Kruise Stiles tallied 11 apiece, and Kazner Oxarart scored 10. Kaiden Robins was sensational for the Blue Hawks, hitting seven 3-points and finishing with 28 points. Bryson LeCoure drained nine points, Ethan Burgess eight and Bryson McCormick seven.

• Fairfield 61, Florence-Carlton 42: Deron Lear drained 21 points, including a trio of three-pointers and six-for-six shooting at the stripe. Nine players in all reached the scoring column for the Eagles. Reed Von netted 10 points, Brock Peace eight, and Israel Perez and Porter Hatch added six points apiece. Jake Schneiter tallied 12 points to lead the Falcons. Bridger Alexander and Wes Potter scored seven points apiece.

• Three Forks 70, Anaconda 49: The Wolves improved to 2-0, taking command in the third quarter with a 19-9 run. Hunter Feddes rang up 18 points and Kanon Reichman was right behind him with 17. Aaron DeFrance hit for 14 points and Devon Long added nine.

• Shepherd 66, Ennis 49: Shepherd took control after halftime, going on a 21-11 run in the third quarter and evening their record at 2-2. Kace Wagner paced Ennis in defeat with 16 points. Malachi Lewis netted 12 and Brandon Foss chipped in with seven. No stats were reported for Shepherd.

• Lone Peak 67, Choteau 63 (OT): The Bighorns used their triple threat of Ebe Grabow (23), Ryan Malinowski (21) and Isaac Bedway (19) to get past a determined Bulldog squad and remain unbeaten at 4-0. No stats were reported for Choteau.

• Deer Lodge 62, Gardiner 58: The Bruins led 35-30 at intermission but couldn’t hold off the Wardens in the second half. Brody Hunter drained 17 points, Kaiden Beck hit for 13 and Gideon Rubink 11. Tamu Lombardi contributed nine points. Parker Wyman knocked down 15 points to lead the Bruins, with Joel Stermitz scoring 13 and Franklin Lewis 11. Toby Willner chipped in with nine points and Braden Tuning added eight.

• Lame Deer 64, Park City 55: The Morning Stars’ quick 16-8 lead in the opening quarter proved to be the difference, as the two teams played each other evenly the rest of the way. Mason Tilzey hit for 16 points, grabbed nine boards and had two steals for the Panthers. Garrett Harper scored 15 points and pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds. Landry Streck tallied 15 points and seven boards. No stats were reported for Lame Deer.

St. Labre 75, Harlem 57: St. Labre’s 26-point outburst in the second quarter powered them to victory against Harlem. Morgan Hugs Jr. led all scorers with 23 points as Fydel Flying chipped in 13, Payton Killsnight added 11 and Kaiden Pryor had 10. No stats were reported for Harlem.

• Circle 55, Roy-Winifred 44: The Wildcats moved to 4-0, overcoming a seven-point halftime deficit with a 23-9 run in the third quarter. Owen Beery kept up his hot shooting, hitting for 27 points. Kash Ereaux netted 15 points and Duke Williamson 13. No stats were reported for Roy-Winifred.

• Roberts 65, Roundup 24: Gus Kosel scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures as the Rockets blew up the Panthers. Chase MacArthur drained three treys and finished with 13 points, and Thommy Howard and Nate Weber tallied 10 points apiece. Liam Vanek hit a pair of threes and finished with eight points.

• Westby-Grenora 61, Frazer 29: Dilan Wade was unstoppable, pouring in 38 points, and Draygen Buechler hit for 14 as the Thunder rolled past the Bear Cubs. Gabriel Beston scored 14 points to lead the Cubs, with Bryce Fourstar ringing up 12 points.

• Lustre Christian 62, Manhattan Christian 55 (OT): In one of the marquee matchups of the night, the Lions ran their record to 4-0 but needed overtime to do it, winning the extra period 11-4 in a game that was close all the way. Byron Ewing led the Lions with 15 points, Prestyn Klatt netted 13 and Clay Reddig 11. Christian Triemstra scored 15 points for the Eagles, with Jack Scott hitting for 11 and Isaac Hoekema 10. 

• Ekalaka 51, Custer-Hysham 49: Tied at 33 entering the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs were one bucket better down the stretch, picking up their second win of the year. Wyatt Kirby shot the lights out for the Rebels in defeat, pouring in 24 points. Layne Duncan added eight points, and Ethan Weinmeister and Elliot Kirby chipped in with six points apiece. No stats were reported for Ekalaka.

• West Yellowstone 72, Townsend 57: The Wolverines led by a basket, 50-48, entering the fourth quarter, then erupted on a 22-9 run to slam the door on the Class B Bulldogs. Quincy McCracken had a monster game, leading four players in double figures with 29 points. Damian Ramales dropped 23 points, Noa Flores 12 and Ben Hales 10 as the Wolverines improved to 3-0. No stats were reported for Townsend.

• Turner 61, White Sulphur Springs 40: The Tornadoes earned their first win of the season behind 21 points from Carson Maloney,with Caleb Zelmer knocking down 17 points and Tate Beck 13. Fisher Desens paced the Hornets with 12 points and Tanner Novark netted 10.

• Bridger 52, Plevna 43: Gage Goltz poured in 20 points, Cade Stringari netted 13 and Brady Kallevig 11 for the Scouts as they evened their record at 2-2. Jordan Paul and Kaeden Oberlander scored 10 points each to lead the Cougars (2-2), with Tristan Buerkle adding nine and Weston Buerkle chipping in with seven.

• South Heart, N.D., 43, Terry 37: Landon Schilling hit for 16 points in a losing effort for the Terriers. Tommaso Do added six points and Logan Murr five.

• Shields Valley 55, Whitehall 51: After trailing 25-13 at intermission, the Trojans got rolling, outscoring the Rebels 38-30 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough, and the Rebels picked up their first win of the season.  Jace Page knocked down 20 points and Robbie Anderson 17, with Dawson Matzinger adding eight points. No stats were reported for Whitehall.

• Absarokee 60, Broadus 46: Tristan Phlllips and Jaxon Gallagher were double trouble with 13 points apiece — Gallagher netted three treys and Phillips two — and Jenson Rowdy hit a pair of threes and finished with 11 points for the Huskies. Garrett Ferster supplied nine points. Brock Gali paced the Hawks with 17 points and Landyn Merwin hit a pair of treys and tallied 12 points.

• Broadview-Lavina 69, Froid-Lake 30: Connor Glennie was a one-man wrecking crew, scoring 29 points, and Garrett Contway hit for 14 as the Pirates blew out the Redhawks to go 2-0 on the year. Rylan Young netted 14 points to lead the Redhawks.

• Reed Point-Rapelje 55, Huntley Project JV 53: Ben Broyles scored 21 points and collected 21 rebounds, and Landen Bryant hit for 20 points, five steals and four boards for the Renegades.

• Belt 70, Chinook 52: Michael Gaylord scored 18 of his 21 points beyond the three-point arc, Walker Maki drained 15 points and Rylan Davison 13 as the Huskies took down the Class B Sugarbeeters. Slater Lords added eight points and Declan Bergstrom seven. Carson Nissen had an excellent night for the Beeters, netting 18 points, and Ryan Bell hit a pair of threes and finished with 12 points.

• Wibaux 54, Richey-Lambert 41: Adino Gonzalez hit for 21 points, Alec Helvik netted 16 and Colter Bacon 15 for the Longhorns, who picked up their second win of the year. Quad Marshall paced the Fusion (0-2) with 10 points. Tanner Goosen tallied nine, and Curtis Mullin supplied eight.

• Winnett-Grass Range 57, Fort Benton 43: The Rams had a 10-point lead at halftime as they kept up the pressure to earn a win. Jace Bantz scored 17 points, Wyatt Melton had 15 and Hazen Arntson had 12 to lead Winnett-Grass Range. No stats were reported for the Longhorns.

• Harlowton-Ryegate-Judith Gap 68, Jordan 65 (3OT): The Engineers and Mustangs need triple overtime to decide a winner before finding enough of a difference. Kenyan Davis led all scorers with 29 points for the Engineers and Chance Pierce added 11. Jordan’s Jayden Saylor poured in 24 points of his own and Koby Saylor added 19. 

• Noxon 72, Valley Christian 57: Shane Murray scored 26 to lead all scorers. The Red Devils also got 15 from Justice Kayser and 12 from Ricky WilliamsAndrew McKethen scored 20 to lead the Eagles. Daniel Stoltzfus added 15 and Nick Karvandi had 12 for Valley Christian.

GIRLS

Class AA

• Billings Skyview 52, Missoula Hellgate 42: Rae Smart knocked down 17 points and hauled in 11 rebounds for the Falcons as they won their second straight. Kiki Lonebear rang up 15 points and Taryn Salveson had 11 points to go with six rebounds. Elly Reed poured in 17 points to lead the Knights. Paisley Johnson and Shannon Kane added nine points apiece.

A trio of Hawks scored in double figures led by Nula Anderson‘s 14 points and followed by Rose O’Brien and Zahara Willis with 10 each.

• Bigfork 40, Frenchtown 34: Trailing by a point entering the fourth quarter, the Valkyries outscored the Broncs 11-4 to grab their first win of the season. Paeten Gunlock drained 19 points and Braeden Gunlock tallied 11 points. No stats were reported for Frenchtown.

• Billings Central 68, Glendive 8: In their season opener, Coral Old Bull led a balanced Rams attack with 15 points, Kam Reinker netted 14, Ryen Hadley 13 and Amaya Lorash added nine. 

• Dillon 53, Missoula Loyola 51: The Beavers held off a fourth-quarter rally by the Class B Breakers to win in Frenchtown. Spencer Laird led all scorers with 24 points for the Breakers. Kylie Konen scored 19 and Kenleigh Graham scored 12 to lead the Beavers.

• Shepherd 33, Ennis 32: Lexie Dennison scored nine points, Breelyn Fulton and Molly Gilbert hit for eight points apiece, and the Fillies outlasted the Mustangs in a defensive battle, improving to 3-1. • Shelby 56, Stillwater Christian 42: Addison Richman scored 22 points, 18 of them coming on three-pointers, and Adele Lamb knocked down a pair of treys and finished with 19 points as the Coyotes improved to 2-0. Hadley Clary hit a pair of threes and tallied 11 points. Jolisa Paolini led Stillwater with 16 points, which included a pair of three-pointers. Belle Pond tallied nine points and Bailey Pond chipped in with seven.

• Huntley Project 68, Wolf Point 15: Paige Lofing blitzed the Wolves with 27 points, and the Red Devils won their fourth in a row. Haedyn Simonson rang up 13 points and Sannah Windy Boy hit for 10. Maddison Akins supplied eight points.

• Chinook 57, Belt 45: The Sugarbeeters won their third straight, getting another dominant game from Alexus Seymour, who finished with 24 points. Brooke Fetter hit for 13 points, and Addison Olsen and Hannah Schoen contributed six points apiece. Aaliyah Gaylord knocked down 18 points for Belt, including three 3-pointers. Dezirae Goodman tallied 13 points and McKenzie Pogany hit a three and finished with 11 points.

• Big Timber 50, Colstrip 33: Laney Ketcham shot the lights out, dropping 26 points, and Tori Beck rang up 12 for the Herders as they won their third straight. Mykal Anderson and Kinley Fulton led the Fillies with eight points apiece, and Paige Neiman contributed six points. 

Plains 52, Troy 36:  After trailing by 23 in the second half, the Trojans closed the gap to within 10 before the Trotters pulled away in the 7B opener. Aubree Butcher led all scorers with 14 points and Trystan Larsen added 12 for Plains. Addyson Fisher led the Trojans with 10 points.

• Lockwood JV 39, Red Lodge 31: Kinley Bray scored nine points and Averi Walkowiak scored seven to lead the Rams against the Lions.

Class C

• Bridger-Belfry-Fromberg 44, Plevna 38: The Scouts broke into the win column behind 21 points from Delaney Klaassen, with Sidney Frank scoring nine points and Abby Schwend seven. Brylee Swarts and Keely Heaton scored 12 and 11 points to lead the Cougars. Hayden Lane supplied eight points.

• Bainville 56, South Heart 37: The Bulldogs held a narrow 38-35 lead going into the final quarter, then shut down South Heart while scoring 18 points to run away with it. Elsie Wilson knocked down 17 points, Lila Butikofer scored 10, and Tally Berwick hit for nine. Megan Robb carried South Heart, dropping 20 points.

• Terry 58, Ray, N.D. 46: Kiera Chaska and Ashley Eaton poured in 20 points apiece, and Carmen Lacquement hit for 12 to pace the Terriers as they improved to 3-1.

• Jordan 38, Forsyth 29: Annie Murnion racked up 11 points, with Skylar Lawrence scoring eight and Jada MacWilliams and Aubrey Smith netting six points apiece for the Mustangs. No stats were reported for Forsyth.

• West Yellowstone 41, Townsend 26: Ari Spence dropped 19 points and Brookelyn Hales hit for 10 as the Wolverines dispatched the Class B Bulldogs to go 3-1 on the season.

• Saco-Whitewater-Hinsdale 45, Roy-WInifred 38: The defending Class C champs earned their fourth straight win, but it wasn’t a cake walk, as the Red Raiders led 22-21 at intermission. The Mavericks held a two-point lead going into the fourth quarter, then outscored the Raiders 13-8 down the stretch. Emerson Downing led a balanced offense with 13 points. BaiLee McColly and Ainsley Erickson hit for 10 points apiece. Hannah Ewen led the Red Raiders with 10 points, Jen Ewen scored nine and Kinzlee Wickens added seven.

• Melstone 49, Denton-Geyser-Stanford-Geraldine 42: The Broncs won their fourth in a row, getting 22 points from Abby Boyd, 15 from Maggie Eike and eight from Emma Myhre. No stats were reported for D-G-S-G. 

• Custer-Hysham 46, Ekalaka 38: The Rebels built a 27-13 halftime lead, and a big fourth-quarter rally from the Bulldogs came up short. Reagan Fink had a monster game with 26 points. • Manhattan Christian 51, Lustre Christian 27: Bella Triemstra and Emily Straatman teamed up for 33 of the Eagles points with 18 and 15 points respectively in earning the win. No stats were reported for Lustre Christian.

• Harlowton-Ryegate-Judith Gap 34, White Sulphur Springs 24: The Engineers flipped the script in the second half by outscoring White Sulphur Springs 23-6. Azaria Davis scored 14 points to lead a trio of Hornets in double figures against the Engineers. Reese Cooney and Abby Britt added 11 points apiece.
