Husband, daughter of Colorado caretaker caught on video abusing mentally disabled man arrested
After 71-year-old caretaker, Gerilynn “Lynn” Amaro, was caught on video abusing a mentally disabled man which led to her arrest, her husband and daughter were taken into custody on Thursday in connection to the incident.
In February, a video that was obtained by CBS News Colorado showed Gerilynn abusing the 55-year-old man, named Oscar, who reportedly is developmentally disabled and operates at the level of a 5 to 8-year-old child.
Gerilynn was the man’s legal caretaker and has had legal custody over him since his father died 11 years ago.
“You do your squats and you do them right, now!” Gerilynn was heard screaming at the man. “Get your f—–g arms down,” she yelled at one point. “If I see you do this again, I’m going to break your arms.”
The video shows Gerilynn knocking Oscar off his feet several different times. She was then arrested on six felony charges.
The videos, which were turned over to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office in January, led investigators to Gerilynn’s arrest on Feb. 7.
They were recorded by one of Gerilynn’s daughters, Melissa Crawford, 48, who stayed at her parent’s Strasburg home from September 2023 until last month. She said she secretly recorded the videos on her cellphone in mid-December as she said the alleged abuse of the man was unrelenting.
Crawford told Maass that she decided to do something because she thought Oscar might die in the home. She said it was “horrible” to give investigators the evidence that would lead to her mother’s arrest.
In an arrest affidavit for Gerilynn, investigators said the video showed her apparently kicking the man in the chest. Deputies also said when they interviewed Oscar, he reported being hit in the face numerous times and that Gerilynn beat him with a “yellow stick” all over his body.
Authorities arrested Richard Amaro and Ricci Amaro in Phillips County on Thursday. Ricci is charged with six counts of assaulting an at-risk adult, while Richard is charged with two counts of assault on an at-risk adult.

“We are not abusive. He was not treated bad. We love him,” Gerilynn told CBS News Colorado Investigative Reporter Brian Maas in a lengthy phone call following the incident.
Both Richard and Ricci are currently being held on $2,500 bond. Gerilynn appeared in court back in March.

Coach Prime, son belittle CU transfer, FCS player
Colorado coach Deion Sanders and his son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, have gone on the offensive on social media after a story ran about how former Buffaloes players fared after many were run off following the arrival of “Coach Prime.”
Former Colorado safety Xavier Smith told the Athletic in a story published Monday that Deion Sanders “never even tried to get to know me,” and that he “was destroying guys’ confidence and belief in themselves.”
Shedeur Sanders posted to X, formerly Twitter, that he didn’t remember who Smith was.
“Bro had to be very mid at best,” Shedeur Sanders posted, insinuating Smith was only an average player.
Smith, who had injury trouble in his short time at Colorado, earned freshman All-America honors at FCS Austin Peay in 2023 and has since followed coach Scotty Walden to UTEP.
After Shedeur Sanders’ tweet, things escalated into a series of back-and-forth trash talk.
Colorado receiver Kaleb Mathis posted a video of himself getting the better of Smith in a practice last spring, to which Smith’s Austin Peay teammate, Jaheim Ward, noted that Mathis had just 38 receiving yards last season.
That tweet led to Ward’s career stats at the FCS school (36 tackles over the past three seasons) getting posted, prompting Coach Sanders to weigh in Wednesday, stating “Lawd Jesus” above a screenshot of Ward’s stats.
Deion Sanders’ tweet taking aim at the relatively anonymous FCS player was viewed more than 12 million times since it was posted. He also clapped back at another X user who took issue with Shedeur’s social media behavior and pointed out Colorado’s 4-8 record last year.
“He will be a top 5 pick,” Deion Sanders said of his son. “Where yo son going ? Lololol I got time today. Lololol.”

Wild Showdown Between Miami Marlins, Colorado Rockies Makes MLB History
For most of Tuesday night’s showdown between the Miami Marlins, it seemed as if the Colorado Rockies did all the damage they needed to in the top of the first.
Right fielder Charlie Blackmon opened the scoring with a two-out, two-RBI single to right. First baseman Elehuris Montero took things a step further when he blasted a 409-foot, three-run home run to center that put Colorado up 5-0.
For the next 16 half-innings, neither team plated a single run.
Then, in the bottom of the ninth, the Marlins’ offense came to life.
Miami opened the frame with a single and a hit-by-pitch, setting second baseman Luis Arraez up for an RBI double. Center fielder Dane Myers then drove in two more tuns on a single up the middle.
A bases-loaded hit-by-pitch cut the Rockies’ lead to one, and a sacrifice fly from third baseman Emmanuel Rivera tied the score at 5-5.
According to MLB.com’s Sarah Langs and the Elias Sports Bureau, Tuesday’s game between the Marlins and Rockies was the first game in MLB history with a five-run top of the first, a five-run bottom of the ninth and no runs in between.
From there, the Rockies retook the lead thanks to third baseman Ryan McMahon’s two-out RBI double in the top of the 10th.
Designated hitter Bryan De La Cruz responded with an RBI double of his own in the bottom of the 10th, however, setting the stage for Myers to walk it off with an RBI single through the right side. The Marlins had battled back from a mere 0.7% win probability midway through the ninth to an instantly iconic comeback victory.
As a battle between the National League’s two worst teams, it likely wasn’t drawing many eyeballs in real time. The Rockies now sit at 7-22, while the Marlins improve to 7-24.
Still, it was a historic night in Miami, giving baseball fans one of the most uniquely chaotic games they’ve ever seen.
