El Paso County Sheriff’s Office works with ICE during arrest of undocumented immigrant in southern Colorado

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – An undocumented immigrant is behind bars, accused of theft and drug possession after an effort by El Paso County deputies and ICE.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said this happened on Thursday when they got a call of someone breaking into vehicles in the Security/Widefield area on Preminger drive.

Deputies said when they arrived, they found the suspect’s vehicle, which deputies said had two people inside. Deputies said there was a brief chase, leading to a dead-end road on Gossamer street, where both suspects ran away in opposite directions.

That’s when officials said they tried using a drone to track the suspects, successfully locating one as he ran toward Grinnell boulevard and the Fountain Valley School. Deputies said the drone operator tracked the suspect until weather conditions forced the drone out of operation.

Using the suspect’s last known location, deputies said they were able to find and arrest him at the Fountain Valley School.

Deputies said the truck the suspects were using was reported stolen in November of 2024 from Colorado Springs. When they searched the truck, deputies said they found a gun, which was also reported stolen in November, along with 1.5 grams of heroin, a lot of marijuana and what deputies called items consistent with narcotics distribution. Deputies said they also found stolen retail items.

The suspect they arrested was 41-year-old Jose Daniel Paramo Guerro, according to deputies. They said he had a Mexican driver’s license with him, as well as several personal identification documents, including what appeared to be immigration documents. Because of his alleged criminal activity, deputies said they coordinated with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to confirm his identity.

Deputies said the documents he had were found to have been fake and associated with other people.

Paramo Guerro was arrested on charges of motor vehicle theft, first-degree criminal trespass, forgery, theft, a special offender charge, vehicular eluding, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Paramo Guerro was booked on a $50,000 bond in the El Paso County Jail, according to deputies.

The BMW driver fled following the crash, traveling northbound on Sheridan Boulevard, CBI said in a bulletin.

The gold BMW X3, with Colorado license plate ECB F17, sustained heavy damage on the driver’s side from the collision.

If seen, call 911 or the Denver Police Department at 720-913-2000.

This was the second hit-and-run crash and Medina Alert in Denver on Saturday.

Earlier Saturday, a pedestrian in a crosswalk was seriously injured after being struck by a 2010 white Toyota Corolla, Colorado license plate EDM U42, at the intersection of Federal Boulevard and W. Kentucky Avenue.

The driver of the Corolla left the scene—heading northbound on Federal Boulevard.

No arrests have been announced.

A Medina Alert honors the memory of Jose Medina, a 21-year-old valet driver who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in 2011.

A taxi driver witnessed the event, followed the driver, and gave the police the license plate number, leading to the capture and arrest of the suspect.
