Baylor crushes CU Buffs
WACO, Texas — Hoping to recapture the competitive spark Colorado received from a reshuffled starting lineup earlier in the week, head coach Tad Boyle rolled with the same opening five at Baylor.
This time, there was no spark from the starting lineup. Or from the other key players coming off the bench. And it didn’t take long for the Buffaloes to fizzle.
Much like a week earlier at Iowa State, the Buffs were run out of the gym quickly Wednesday night. Unlike the matchup against Iowa State, ranked seventh in the nation, this time it happened against a team CU had a reasonable belief it could defeat.
Instead, Colorado’s first visit to Baylor in 15 years ended in an embarrassment, as the Bears rolled past the Buffs in a 86-67 romp at Foster Pavilion.
It was the seventh loss in eight games for the Buffs, while Baylor won its second consecutive game after losing seven of its first eight Big 12 Conference games.
CU freshman Isaiah Johnson scored the game’s first bucket, but that proved to be the only lead of the night for the Buffs, who quickly fell into a 16-6 hole.
The Buffs remained within nine points before the Bears reeled off a 16-4 run, paving the way for a 45-21 halftime lead for Baylor. CU committed nine of its 10 turnovers in the first half.
Baylor went 7-for-15 on 3-pointers in the first half and finished 10-for-24. The Bears posted a .528 overall field goal percentage, becoming the ninth opponent to shoot at least 50% against the Buffs and the fourth in the past six games.
Johnson, CU’s leading scorer, endured his most frustrating shooting effort of the season, going 3-for-13 with 10 points. Standout freshman Tounde Yessoufou led Baylor with 27 points, while Colorado native Obi Agbim added 19 points and six assists for the Bears.
Colorado (13-10, 3-7 Big 12) returns home to host Arizona State on Saturday (7:30 p.m., ESPN2).

Multiple Colorado fire departments work to put out blaze in Franktown home
Multiple fire departments jumped in to help when a fire broke out in Franktown, Colorado, on Sunday afternoon.
The Franktown Fire Protection District said firefighters were called to a home on Empire Drive around 2:30 p.m. The fire department said multiple floors of the home collapsed as the fire continued to spread through the building, and crews at the scene went into defensive mode to keep the flames from spreading into the nearby wooded area.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Department, South Metro Fire Rescue, Rattlesnake Fire Protection District, Kiowa Fire Protection District, and Elizabeth Fire Rescue all responded to the scene to provide aid.
Due to calm winds, the FFPD said it was easier for firefighters to stop the fire from spreading further. Crews brought the blaze under control and, as of 4 p.m., were continuing to ensure all hot spots were fully extinguished.
The family who lived in the home escaped safely, and the department said no one was injured.

Colorado Rockies spring training game no. 3 thread: Jimmy Herget vs. MacKenzie Gore
In the first offensive explosion of spring training, when the Rockies totalled 13 hits and scored 11 runs, including a three-hit, three-RBI performance by Brenton Doyle and a homer from Adael Amador, the Rockies beat Arizona 11-6 for their first spring training win on Saturday.
The Rockies (1-1) will now face their first opponent other than the Diamondbacks when they take on the Texas Rangers (1-1) today at Surprise Stadium.

RHP Jimmy Herget, one of the Rockies best relievers last season, will get the start in his first action of spring training. “The Human Glitch” recorded career highs in appearances (59), innings (83.1 IP) and strikeouts (81) while posting a 2.48 ERA in his first season with Colorado in 2025. Due to his success, Herget is now auditioning for a spot in the rotation.
Warren Schaeffer is starting out with a lefty-heavy lineup, with six left-handed batters, to take on Texas LHP MacKenzie Gore. There are also three non-roster invites in the starting lineup in catcher Brett Sullivan, first baseman TJ Rumfield and shortstop Nicky Lopez.
Sunday will mark Gore’s first action of the spring, as well as his first start with Texas. The third overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft is in his fifth MLB season and was an All-Star for the National League, representing the Washington Nationals in 2025. He was traded to the Rangers in January.
