Arizona Cardinals’s Cotton Candy Burrito Testing Limits of Culinary Hubris
The Arizona Cardinals are coming off two consecutive 4-13 seasons. It’s hard to believe things could get much worse inside that stadium yet here we are looking at one of the most off-putting culinary concoctions any stadium concession stand has ever considered: the cotton candy burrito.
According to the tiny sign there the cotton candy burrito contains ice cream and candy wrapped in cotton candy and a look inside confirms as much. It’s sugar wrapped in sugar and the combination of ice cream, Arizona heat and cotton candy seems like a recipe for disaster without even considering the health concerns. If there’s really any structural integrity to this thing then it’s must be like stuffing the contents of a trick-or-treat bag into a football, which by the way sounds like something that would incredibly easy to throw.
What are we even doing here? This is the exact kind of thing that deserves Dr. Ian Malcolm’s scorn. The Arizona Cardinals’s concessions operator were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn’t stop to think if they should.
What’s worse is that these aren’t even new. You can learn how to make one in this YouTube video from 2018. Or you might have seen one at this ice cream shop in Las Vegas, which is “home to the cotton candy burrito.”
Maybe the Cardinals won’t be so bad this year. Maybe they’ll improve. Whatever happens on the field, at least fans will be able to go home with that familiar feeling of regret.

Severe storm threats looming over parts of Arizona prompt First Alert Weather Day
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It’s a First Alert weather day across Arizona for the threat of severe weather, mainly this afternoon and evening.
A weather disturbance from Mexico is moving into Arizona this morning, possibly providing additional lift and instability today for storm development. Storms will move to the west, which means storms that develop this afternoon on the Mogollon Rim have a chance of moving into the Valley.
Any storms that develop today have the potential to be very strong. Damaging winds and heavy rain are a possibility. Gusty winds of 40 to 50 miles per hour could be associated with any outflows as well, which could lead to areas of blowing dust. A Blowing Dust Advisory is in effect for the deserts of the state, including the Valley, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Rain chances are in the forecast tomorrow, but depend largely on what happens today. Drier air is forecast to arrive starting Thursday, which will cut storm chances down a bit heading toward the end of the week and into the weekend.
Look for a high of 111 degrees today but just 106 degrees tomorrow. An Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect today in the Lower Colorado River Valley, and a High Pollution Advisory is in effect for the Valley metro area.

Arizona GOP opens new office in north Phoenix
PHOENIX — Gina Swoboda the Arizona GOP chairwoman unveiled the newest ‘Trump Force 47’ office on Monday.
“There is a man who is literally putting his entire life on the line every day. And his name is Donald J. Trump,” said Swoboda, to a crowd in north Phoenix.
Swoboda introduced a handful of Republican nominees, including U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake, to the crowd.
Sargon Malki, a member of the group ‘Assyrians for Trump,’ said he has only felt compelled to volunteer for one candidate in his entire life, former President Donald Trump.
“I don’t feel safe for my family, for myself,” the Phoenix resident stated in regard to issues with border security.
Malki said the border and the economy are his two top concerns, both of which he believes Vice President Kamala Harris has yet to address while in the White House.
When working to recruit new voters and he hears from independent voters “Maybe she can change things,” Malki said he responds with, “She hasn’t changed things during her vice presidency, what would change now?”
Harris organizing volunteers, however, claim they’ve a major shift in momentum since Kamala Harris replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee.
“We’ve had 20 thousand new sign-ups here in Arizona for people that are engaging with the campaign, coming out to volunteer,” shared organizing volunteer Emily Michael.
“Reproductive access and reproductive healthcare,” she said, are at the top of her mind as she tries to rally support around the state. Michael continued, “I also grew up here in Arizona in a low-income household with a single mother, as the oldest daughter. So economic issues are really important.”
Republicans like Mesa Mayor John Giles are among the latest GOP politicians to shift their support behind Vice President Harris on Monday, ahead of her visit to the valley later this week.

Bridge over Arizona freeway rebuilt a year after deadly crash
PHOENIX – A bridge over a southeastern Arizona freeway that was severely damaged in a deadly wreck last year has been rebuilt, transportation officials announced Monday.
With the overpass now operational, State Route 191 traffic can again travel across Interstate 10 about 9 miles west of Willcox, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).
ADOT has opened a reconstructed bridge that carries US 191 over I-10 in southeast Arizona after a crash that severely damaged the structure in 2023.

The bridge has been unusable since a semi-truck heading west on I-10 slammed into a support pillar and caught fire just after midnight on May 3, 2023. The driver died in the crash.
A section of westbound I-10 was closed for two days after the crash, creating a long detour to bypass the collision site. Crews worked around the clock to make it safe for traffic to travel under the SR 191 overpass.
However, the bridge’s superstructure — including the girders and deck — still needed to be demolished and rebuilt.
In November, ADOT secured $5.3 million in federal emergency funds for the construction project.
While the bridge is now open, motorists can expect to see crews completing minor asphalt work and lane striping in September.
