Marvel details upcoming slate of shows at New York Comic Con

We got our first proper look at the upcoming Wonder Man series, but Marvel has a whole slate of shows in the works. Other than Wonder Man, though, the company didn’t roll into New York Comic Con with a firm release date for anything. The best we got were some broad release windows and few tantalizing details for what’s in store.

Season two of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is set for release in fall of 2026. A lot of details are still unknown, but head of Marvel Television and Marvel Animation Brad Winderbaum did say the story would feature a “black, oozy substance.” Let’s just hope the show handles that particular story arc a little bit better than Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 did.

X-Men ‘97 is also getting a season two, which is set to premiere in the summer of 2026. Eric and Julia Lewald, the writers behind X-Men: The Animated Series, as well as the Larry Houston who directed most of the original series are joining the show as executive producers.

Before that, though, we’ll be getting another season of Daredevil: Born Again in March, with a third season confirmed to be in the works. The first season of Born Again was a bit uneven, but the back half was surprisingly strong. We’re intrigued to see how the show evolves, and even more so now that Krysten Ritter is back in the mix as Jessica Jones.

Lastly Winderbaum confirmed that VisionQuest is scheduled to close out the storyline that began with WandaVision sometime in 2026. Though no more specific timeframe was given.

How the creator economy destroyed the internet

Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, has the most popular YouTube account with over 450 million subscribers, or a little over 1 in 16 people in the world. His success with high-production, high-output stunt videos have made him the aspirational model for independent content creators everywhere: the actualization of the promise that, thanks to the internet, gatekeepers no longer stand in the way of viral fame and the riches that supposedly come with it.

Some might say that the extraordinarily famous content creators at the top represent the exception that proves the rule, but even Donaldson, no matter how agape his algorithm-pandering maw, can’t actually make money from YouTube. Financial documents revealed that the content arm of the MrBeast empire is a tremendous money loser — three straight years in the red, including a whopping negative $110 million in 2024. In fact, today all of those viral videos are just a marketing front for the real MrBeast business: a line of mediocre chocolate bars, available at your local Walmart. If the dream was that content creators were supposed to forge a new way to make money, the reality is that they’re relying on the oldest method: selling millions of people crap they don’t need.

In this series, The Verge dives into the ever-shifting, ever-fucked-up incentives that fuel the content machine across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. There was a time when the internet wasn’t constantly trying to sell us things. Now, what was once mostly contained to large commerce giants has encroached on every nook and cranny of the web. It’s eating the internet, swallowing the web whole and all of us with it. Maybe that’s why MrBeast’s mouth is always wide open.

Parents everywhere wrestle with one big question. What is the right age to let a child have a smartphone?

Tweens ask for one long before many adults feel ready. At the same time, researchers keep sounding alarms about how early access may shape health and behavior. Now, a large new study gives parents even more to think about.

Published in Pediatrics, the research tracked more than 10,500 children in the national Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study. It found strong links between early smartphone ownership and higher odds of depression, obesity and insufficient sleep by age 12. The earlier kids got a phone, the greater their risk.

What the study reveals about early smartphone ownership

The study compared 12-year-olds who owned smartphones with those who did not. Kids with phones were more likely to show signs of depression, carry extra weight and sleep less than their peers without devices. Researchers noted that these patterns held even after accounting for income, neighborhood, parental monitoring and other factors.

They also looked at children who still did not own a phone at age 12. One year later, those who had finally received one showed more mental health concerns and worse sleep than those who still did not have a device. These shifts happened quickly, which raised concerns about how powerful the change can be.

Lead author Dr Ran Barzilay explained that parents should treat the decision like a real health milestone. A device changes how kids sleep, move and socialize. That combination may create more strain for a 12-year-old than for a 16-year-old who has more maturity and self-regulation.

Why age matters more than many parents expect

The research shows an association, not a direct cause. Yet the patterns match earlier findings. Kids with smartphones often stay up later, scroll more and move less. That mix can disrupt physical health and emotional well-being. Adolescence is a sensitive stage when small shifts in sleep or mood can have long-lasting effects.

Experts also pointed out how nearly every teen now has smartphone access. That makes the decision even harder for families who want to delay. Still, researchers say the data is strong enough to guide parents toward waiting when possible. Parents do not need perfect evidence to choose a slower timeline.

Pediatric mental health experts warn that a smartphone is not a simple tool. It opens the entire internet with no natural limits. Families need clear rules and protections and those steps require real work from adults. Many parents feel pressure to hand over a device early, yet the expert urged families to trust their instincts when deciding the timing.

The sleep connection families cannot ignore

Most experts agree that phones disrupt sleep. A large share of preteens keep devices in their bedrooms, which leads to late-night scrolling and overnight notifications. Even the glow of the screen can make it harder to fall asleep.

Researchers who study adolescent sleep and screen habits have found that many 11 to 12-year-olds keep devices within reach at night, and a notable share report being awakened by notifications. Experts in this field urge parents to move phones out of bedrooms overnight because better sleep can reduce some of the risks tied to early smartphone access.

The challenge is consistency. Many parents struggle to set rules when screens support school work, friendships and safety. Yet researchers stress that even one boundary, like no phones in bedrooms, can protect sleep and reduce stress.

How parents can use this information right now

No one wants to shame parents who already gave their kids a phone. Many families made the decision for safety or communication needs. The study does not claim that every early smartphone user will face health issues. It simply highlights patterns worth considering before making the call. Parents can use these insights to create a healthier plan.

1) Delay smartphones until children show readiness

Readiness is more than age. Look for consistent responsibility with chores, schoolwork and device-free rules on other screens.

2) Set clear family rules for screen time

Kids follow rules when they understand why they exist. Set limits that work for your household and adjust them as schedules and needs change.

3) Keep devices out of bedrooms at night

Nighttime use and notifications interrupt sleep. A “charging station” in the kitchen or living room solves this fast.

Netflix CEO made a visit to the White House before buying Warner Bros.

In November, Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-CEO made a trip to the White House for a lengthy meeting with Donald Trump. According to Bloomberg, the two discussed a number of topics, but chief among them was Netflix’s plan to bid on Warner Bros. At the end of their conversation, Sardonos felt that “Netflix wouldn’t face immediate opposition from the White House.”

This week, Netflix successfully won the bidding war for Warner, offering $82.7 billion. It’s well known that Paramount and its CEO David Ellison were eager to acquire the storied studio and its streaming assets. Ellison and his father, Larry Ellison, have close ties to the White House, and as part of their pitch to Warner, suggested that only they were in a position to overcome the regulatory hurdles of further media consolidation.

Sarandos seems to have rightly believed that the Ellisons overestimated their political clout. And despite some public efforts to turn the White House against the deal, Netflix won out, for now. There is of course, still a chance that Paramount could launch a hostile takeover effort, or that the Justice Department could try and scuttle the deal — nothing is guaranteed yet.

Sarandos tried to acquire Paramount before David Ellison swooped in, so snatching Warner Bros. out from under his nose is likely something of a personal victory.
