Woman found dead on Manhattan Beach

A lifeguard made a grisly discovery Friday morning on Manhattan Beach when a woman was found dead on the sands.

Manhattan Beach PD was dispatched to The Strand in the area between the pier and 15th St. at 6:40 a.m. Friday morning after receiving a call from a man saying his girlfriend was missing. Police say the male caller and his friends tried searching for the deceased but were unable to locate her.

Police say the lifeguard found the body around 10:30 a.m. and have not released any details about the age of the victim, or the cause of the death. Her name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Strand and bike path were closed between the pier and 15th St. for approximately two hours during the investigation but both have reopened.
