Woman found dead during welfare check prompts homicide investigation

A homicide investigation is underway Wednesday after a woman was found dead during a welfare check in the Newhall community of Santa Clarita Tuesday night.

Deputies were sent to the 21000 block of Nandina Lane around 6:45 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated.

During the welfare check deputies discovered “a female adult unresponsive.”

The unidentified woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Homicide investigators were sent to the scene but no further details have been revealed.
