Shocking video shows speeding driver hit 5 parked cars in Pomona

Shocking surveillance video captured a speeding driver as they set a destructive path down a residential street in Pomona on Sunday night.

Footage showed the rogue driver spinning out of control on South Palomares Street around 10 p.m., hitting and damaging at least five parked cars.

“It was going like 90 miles per hour,” said nearby resident Anel Montellano.

Montellano told KTLA’s Rachel Menitoff that the noise itself was enough to warrant concern.

“My partner grabbed the baby and we rushed into the room, we didn’t know what was happening,” said Montellano. “We did even know it was a crash in the moment, and we heard the impact, and we were like, ‘Oh, it’s an emergency.’”

The car was seen barreling down the street, making some dangerous twists and turns, using momentum to bounce off several parked cars.

Then, although the car disappears from the frame, the video provides the sound of the driver continuing their destructive path as their vehicle flies down the rest of the street.

“Nobody in their right mind, or just the sound of hitting the cars, would drive that way,” said another resident, Alyssa Ortega.

Ortega said the city denied a motion to install speed bumps, a precaution she said she feels will temper the next person who opts for speed over safety.

“I think it’s something that needs to be changed because a lot of us have kids – small ones,” said Ortega.

Luckily, no injuries were reported.

It’s unclear whether the driver was impaired or driving under the influence, and the Pomona Police Department told KTLA that it hasn’t been able to say whether or not they’ve made an arrest.
