Woman shoots, kills man who came to her Southern California home armed with knives

A man is dead following an incident where it appears he was shot in self-defense.

Authorities say the shooting occurred around 9:47 p.m. at a home in the 400 block of South Shamrock Avenue in Monrovia.

Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call about a possible violation of a restraining order. When they arrived, they found an Asian male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

LASD says the Asian male arrived at the home armed with knives and attempted to stab a White male and White female who lived at the property. Investigators determined that the female shot the deceased to stop him from advancing on her and the male.

Both the female and male who lived at the home were questioned by deputies and neither was arrested.

Suspect steals police SUV, causes pileup in downtown L.A.

A chaotic situation unfolded in downtown Los Angeles early Sunday morning when witnesses say a man stole a Los Angeles police SUV and slammed into other vehicles before crashing into a pole.

Preliminary information is extremely limited.

The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. in the area of 8th Street and Figueroa where two minivans were badly damaged in the collision.

Video from the scene also showed debris scattered along the roads and sidewalks. Less than a block away, the LAPD vehicle was also badly damaged after the driver crashed into a pole.

Footage from RMG Media showed a man being handcuffed and taken away in a police cruiser.

Suspect dead after hours-long SWAT standoff in Tarzana

A shooting suspect is dead after an hours-long SWAT standoff in Tarzana Saturday.

Police responded to reports of a man firing shots near Victory Boulevard and Sylvia Avenue at around 2 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The armed suspect later barricaded himself inside a home on the 19200 block of Victory Boulevard, prompting police to evacuate nearby residents in the area.

SWAT Team members and police created a perimeter around the house as the man remained barricaded inside. 

Negotiators spoke with the suspect on the phone, attempting to convince him to come outside.  However, after several conversations, police said the man hung up the phone and refused to cooperate.

At one point, the suspect’s partner reportedly called police to tell them he was armed with a gun and had fired shots inside their home.

After around five hours barricaded inside, SWAT members forcefully entered the house and found the suspect dead inside.

Neighbors in the area were concerned as they watched the situation unfold amid a large police presence in the area.

“It’s very scary,” said Laurence Brown, a Tarzana resident. “It was hard to evacuate the area because they established such a large perimeter. A lot of spectators want to know what is going on. They’re concerned about the events that have transpired.”

The circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death were not released. His identity and official cause of death will be determined by the coroner’s office.

The fatal incident remains under investigation.
