Expert reveals best TV's for the big game

With the big game just days away, now is a great time to score a new TV to watch it on!

“It’s a larger screen in a smaller space, better picture and the price points are amazing. With inflation, the prices haven’t gone up they’ve come down,” said Tom Campbell with Video & Audio Center.

“You’re going to see the big game better than being there in person. You’ll see a huge difference between last year’s set or a set that’s 5 or 10 years ago and the new sets now,” said Campbell.

TVs typically see deep discounts around Black Friday, the holidays and Super Bowl.

“I don’t think TV prices are going to get much lower than they are right now,” said Caleb Denison, TV reviewer with the website DigitalTrends.com.

Recently, he was on the Rich On Tech Radio show to reveal his top TV picks for the big game.

While the sweet spot for screen size is still 65 inches, 75 and 85-inch models are getting more popular. At CES they were even bigger.

“That 100-inch barrier has been broken. And so now we’re receiving TVs that are the size of projector screens, which calls into question why you’d ever get a projector at this point,” said Denison.

If you’re shopping for a QLED screen, look for MiniLED technology.

“These TVs are excellent at getting very bright. And so they’re great for a really bright room,” explained Denison.

OLED TV’s have the best contrast, but they are pricier.

“Contrast is the thing that the eye picks up on the most. And OLED TVs are just the more contrasty TV of the two,” said Denison.

For the best value, check out the HiSense U7K and U8K models.

Likewise, TCL’s Q7 and QM8 models are a great value.

They all start around $700 dollars for a 65-inch set.

“I know that those are brands that maybe people are still warming up to, but I guarantee that you see them at your Costco and at Amazon and at Best Buy now. They’re everywhere. They’ve proven to be very reliable.”

Upgrade picks include Samsung’s S90C OLED, or Best Buy’s exclusive S89C.

“Absolutely remarkable how good the picture quality is on this thing. And it’s one of my top TV picks of the year by far,” added Denison.

There’s also the perennial favorite, LG’s C3.

All of these models run about $1600 for a 65-inch set.

Finally, if you want the absolute best, consider a Sony.

“If you are a movie buff or a cinephile, Sony is still the best out there. They make the very best TVs, in my opinion, though you tend to pay a little bit of a Sony tax to get a Sony TV these days,” concluded Denison.
