Dana Point home hanging on cliff 'not a threat': Officials

Images of a mansion sitting on the edge of a cliff at the Dana Point Headlands have gone viral, with onlookers concerned the home may fall.

The shocking images were taken after a landslide occurred adjacent to Scenic Drive on Feb. 7, following several days of rain from an atmospheric river storm.

Dana Point city officials remain confident the landslide won’t threaten the homes above.

Both the city’s building inspector and a Geotech engineer went to the site to assess the structures.

“At this point, the City has deemed that no additional action is necessary, and out of an abundance of caution has recommended that the property owner contract for a professional engineering assessment of the property,” officials said in a statement to KTLA.

As of right now, none of the homes have been evacuated or deemed too dangerous to occupy, according to officials.

Geotech engineers told the Los Angeles Times that “it looks a lot scarier than it is,” because the homes are anchored to bedrock.

With more rain in the forecast, officials say they will remain in contact with the property owner and continue to monitor the site.
