Kansas State women’s basketball rolls in overtime behind Ayoka Lee to beat West Virginia

The No. 9-ranked Kansas State women’s basketball team used an 11-point run late during the final three minutes of overtime Wednesday night to pull away for a pivotal 73-64 Big 12 victory over West Virginia at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan.

Ayoka Lee, back in the lineup after missing Saturday’s game against Central Florida, had 34 points and 12 rebounds, while Brylee Glenn added a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards to lead the Wildcats. Serena Sundell, who missed most of the third quarter after twisting her ankle, scored 11 points.

With the victory, K-State improved to 23-4 overall and 12-3 in the Big 12, to remain one game behind first-place Oklahoma State. West Virginia, which got 23 points from Ja’Naiya Quinerly, fell to 23-4 and 11-4.

K-State squandered a four-point lead in the last 5 1/2 seconds of regulation, as West Virgina’s Jordan Harrison scored on a layup at the buzzer to tie it at 58-58 and force overtime. But Lee hit two free throws with 2:59 left in the extra period to break a 62-62 tie and trigger the decisive Wildcat run.

Lee scored 10 points in overtime and after struggling from the free-throw line in regulation, the Wildcats were 9 of 11 in the extra period.

K-State travels to Lawrence on Sunday for a 1 p.m. game against Kansas in the second edition of the Sunflower Showdown. The Wildcats won the first matchup in Manhattan, 69-58.

WVSports – West Virginia Mountaineers: Transfer 101: Kekoura Tarnue

West Virginia has filled another need in the secondary from the transfer portal with a commitment from Jacksonville State defensive back Kekoura Tarnue.

Tarnue, 6-foot-1, 195-pounds, selected the Mountaineers over scholarship offers from Washington State, UAB, James Madison, Texas San Antonio, Utah State, Akron and a number of other schools once he entered the transfer portal April 16.

Tarnue took an official visit to West Virginia and picked the program at the end of that trip giving the Mountaineers another talented piece in the secondary.

The Liberia native spent only one season with the Gamecocks where he recorded 53 tackles and 3 interceptions to go along with 7 passes defended.

WVSports – Jacksonville State DB transfer Tarnue commits to West Virginia

The West Virginia football program has landed a commitment at a position of need with Jacksonville State defensive back transfer Kekoura Tarnue picking the Mountaineers.

Tarnue, 6-foot-1, 195-pounds, selected the Mountaineers over scholarship offers from Washington State, UAB, James Madison, Texas San Antonio, Utah State, Akron and a number of others.

The Liberia native spent only one season with the Gamecocks where he recorded 53 tackles and 3 interceptions to go along with 7 passes defended. He entered the transfer portal in April 16.

During his lone year at Jacksonville State, Tarnue played 628 snaps and graded out strong in coverage permitting just 26 of 45 passes to be completed for 263 yards and zero touchdowns. He is slated to play cat safety for West Virginia.

Prior to that Tarnue spent two seasons at Rochester Community and Technical College in Minnesota where he recorded 11 interceptions to go along with four interceptions returned for touchdowns.

The defensive back will have one year of eligibility remaining in his career.

Tarnue becomes the sixth transfer addition by West Virginia this off-season in the secondary along with Northwestern cornerback Garnett Hollis, Colorado State cornerback TJ Crandall, Duquesne cornerback Ayden Garnes, Charlotte cornerback Dontez Fagan and Northwestern safety Jaheem Joseph.

West Mifflin (Pa.) 2025 offensive lineman Jaiden Brown-Demery had been to West Virginia before but returned to campus for another look for the annual Gold-Blue game.

Brown-Demery, 6-foot-4, 320-pounds, was able to participate in an offensive line meeting and sit down and discuss with the coaches on how they approach preparing the position.
