Tennessee baseball vs Texas A&M prediction in 2024 College World Series: Who wins CWS Game 3?

Tennessee baseball vs Texas A&M prediction in 2024 College World Series: Who wins CWS Game 3?

OMAHA, Neb. — Tennessee baseball is a win away from history.

No. 1 Tennessee (59-13) faces No. 3 Texas A&M (53-14) on Monday (7 p.m. ET, ESPN) in the final game of the College World Series at Charles Schwab Field. A win secures Tennessee’s first national title.

The Vols lost 9-5 in the opener Saturday then won the second game 4-1 on Sunday.

Here is what to know about the matchup:

Tennessee needs to be great in situational hitting

Dylan Dreiling and Cal Stark slammed two-run homers in Tennessee’s win Sunday. Those were the only two hits the Vols had with runners on.

UT was 2-for-19 with runners on in Game 2 after going 6-for-19 in Game 1. It also is a combined 3-for-21 with runners in scoring position in the two games.

Tennessee has to make the most of scoring opportunities in the final game.

Can Zander Sechrist do it again for Tennessee baseball?

Zander Sechrist has changed Tennessee’s season in the final month by emerging as a reliable and steady third starter. He has thrown four quality starts in his past five outings. He didn’t give up an earned run in 4⅔ innings in the only start that didn’t qualify as a quality start.

The senior has had the ball in important games in all of those, including to win an SEC regular-season title and the Knoxville Super Regional. He’s getting another shot to do it after cruising since mid-May.

DREILING: Dylan Dreiling is writing his Tennessee baseball legend in CWS. It’s no surprise.

Who will Texas A&M pitch?

Texas A&M likely will start lefty Justin Lamkin, who is 3-2 with a 5.00 ERA this season. The sophomore has thrown eight shutout innings in the College World Series with 15 strikeouts. He threw 70 pitches on Wednesday against Florida, which led to A&M holding him until Monday.

Texas A&M coach Jim Schlossnagle indicated that relievers Josh Stewart and Evan Aschenbeck will be ready, having had a day off after pitching in Saturday’s Game 1. Aschenbeck is the Aggies’ top reliever. He has struck out seven in 2⅔ innings against the Vols.

3-star Texas safety Allen Gant commits to Arizona, continuing recruiting push in Lone Star State

Everything is bigger in Texas, including Arizona’s recruiting efforts under Brent Brennan.

The Wildcats have earned a commitment from 3-star Lubbock safety Allen Gant, the fourth pledge (out of nine so far) in the 2025 recruiting class from Lone Star State.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Gant is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 854 player in the 2025 class, the 74th-best safety in the country and the No. 137 prospect from Texas. He picked Arizona over offers from Georgia Tech, TCU and hometown school Texas Tech, among others.

Gant made an official visit to Tucson this weekend, making him the second recruit to commit to the UA on Sunday after being on campus. The other is 3-star in-state cornerback Dajon Hinton, who flipped from ASU.

Other commitments from this weekend are expected in the next few days as Arizona builds its first full class under Brennan. The 2025 class is currently ranked 59th nationally by 247Sports.

71-year-old beauty queen is oldest woman to ever compete in Miss Texas USA

She’s a timeless beauty.

A 71-year-old Texas beauty queen proved that age is just a number after becoming the oldest woman to ever compete in the Miss Texas USA competition.

“‘I am delighted to be a part of this incredible new experience as a contestant in the Miss Texas USA pageant,” the age-defying contestant Marissa Teijo wrote on her Instagram page.

The El Paso resident will compete against nearly 100 other women at the pageant this weekend in Houston, the El Paso Times reported.

If Teijo wins this prelim, she will go on to represent the Lone Star state in the Miss USA pageant in Los Angeles on August 4.

Argentina’s Alejandra Rodriguez, 60, fell short of becoming the world’s oldest Miss Universe contestant. AP

This comes after the Miss Universe Organization removed contestant age limits in a bid to be more inclusive.

The septuagenarian wants to use her accomplishment as proof that you’re never too old to pursue your dreams, declaring: “I feel that all women now have a new stage of opportunity, strength and beauty.”

Jackie Garcia-Martinez, CEO of Bazaar Models, who represents Teijo among other contestants, says she’s proud to rep “women of all shapes, ages and races.”

“As I prepare my team to compete at Miss Texas, I’m thrilled to support these women who inspire me as a leader every day,” she said.

Speaking of ageless beauty queens, Alejandra Rodriquez, 60, recently fell short of winning the Miss Argentina competition, dashing her hopes of becoming the oldest Miss Universe contestant ever.

This isn’t the first time an unlikely contestant has taken the pageant world by storm.

In June, marine spouse Bailey Anne Kennedy, 31, was crowned the first-ever transgender Miss Maryland USA, meaning that she will compete at the Miss USA competition.
